15 Unmissable Reads, the Best of the Blogosphere (July 2018)

15 Unmissable Reads, the Best of the Blogosphere JUly 2018 | Not Dressed As Lamb

In my Best of the Blogosphere this month I have young women showing off their natural grey, body image in your thirties, stylish all-black in summer – and more!

(In case you’ve not seen these posts before my Unmissable Reads are a monthly round-up of things I’ve seen, watched and liked in the blogosphere that I’m sure you’ll love too.)

These posts usually go out on the fourth Wednesday of the month but I’m a week behind due to moving and only getting broadband connected a couple of days ago. I can’t believe it’s August already! It may be the traditionally quiet time of the year for reading blogs but that doesn’t mean there isn’t great content out there. Do have a read of these great links – you never know who or what you might discover that makes your day/week/month!

Check out the amazing Instragam account @grombre, where beautiful young women are showing off their natural grey hair – and killing it.

Hayley has written a very honest, thoughtful post about her body image in her thirties: “Happiness is a choice, and I made that choice for myself and my wellbeing.

I love how some women look amazing in black in the summer – Carelia is wearing all-black and looks cool, chic and sophisticated.

Influencers buying followers and likes has been a hot topic recently: Jane has talked about influencer fraud and how trust is a two-way street (I agree that brands are as much to blame for encouraging it by insisting on high numbers and not looking at authenticity/engagement).

As someone who has just moved house and is currently interiors-obsessed, these 25 decor/DIY projects for renters work just as well for homeowners.

Paola runs and owns her own headscarves business and wrote about why her work should not have to be cheap. (It’s crazy that young, female entrepreneurs have to justify themselves in this way.)

I love reading how people chose their children’s names – Naomi has just had twins which equals a total of five(!) children. That’s a lot of naming.

Anna has requested that people stop asking women if they’re pregnant. Hear, hear.

I am DYING to visit the new, purposely-Instagrammable London cafe Feya… cakes, flowers, pink chairs and marble: what else does an Instagrammer need?!

Michelle discusses how to know whether a brand is ethical (or not).

Quality sleep is one of the best health benefits there is, and Lisa’s tips for how to sleep better are as good for me (someone who has no trouble sleeping) as they are for insomniacs.

Although I’m somewhat tired of seeing changing room pics on Instagram, you rarely see older women featuring them. Older, silver-haired beauties Lisa and Beth have shared their changing room pics and I loved seeing their try-ons.

Mary’s obsession with kimonos is fabulous. So many kimonos, so many ways to wear them.

Liz has four excellent beauty recommendations for Summer 2018: the last one is an absolute must and something I should use more myself.

How refreshing to read a case study of a blogger working with a brand where the latter has complete and utter creative freedom to write whatever they like. It results in 100% authentic, honest blog posts – something more brands should think about commissioning.

After a long and busy summer, I’m finally resurfacing too, catching up on blogger friends and blogging news so this is the perfect way for me to find out what’s hot currently. Thanks Catherine, for remaining true to your readers, sharing, informing and generally being every girl’s best friend online.
    Wishing you a lovely week!

Thank you so much for including me, Catherine. I’ve just gone through some of the other posts and my credit card is a little mad at you for including Mary’s kimono obsession post. I literally want every single one (sob!) but especially that highly clickable colourful one you included in the photo. Fantastic list of reads, as ever.

You’re most welcome Lisa – and yes aren’t Mary’s kimonos fabulous? I also love the way she wore the colourful one you mentioned as a dress and belted 😀

Gosh Catherine, there’s so much I want to say here! First – adore black for summer! It is so Sophia Loren! Second – My frustration at “influencers” buying likes/followers pales in comparison to my utter disdain at the brands for their part in this sherade! If only they could see how much they’re feeding this problem with their ridiculous expectations for numbers. I mean they’re only shooting themselves in the foot really. A) because it pushes their costs up & B) The engagement isn’t there if the followers are fake. I’m thinking the whole Instagram payment system needs a massive over-haul. At the very least, brands should take the time to look a little deeper than just a number. In the end they’ll be the ones paying for nothing.
Anyhoo enough of that, I have more of your fabulous BOB to read 😉
    xx

Ooooh yes Carelia is definitely doing a great Sophia Loren…! And yes I agree, brands are shooting themselves in the foot – I think it has a lot to do with the fact that blogger outreach is given to interns or new staff a lot of the time and they just don’t have the time (or are not encouraged) to research the influencers with the best engagement… they just look at profile pages and pick the ones with the highest numbers. The fact that I’m contacted by so many brands offering collections that are TOTALLY unsuited to my style makes me think that looking into an influencer’s engagement is a step too far for many…!

Thank you as always Catherine for featuring my posts. I have just read Carelia’s all-black outfit post and looked at the new insta-cafe. It looks amazing! I’m so glad you’ve got your broadband now. It’s such a nightmare without it isn’t it. Lots of love my friend xxxx
