14 Unmissable Reads, The Best of the Blogosphere (January 2022)

In my Best of the Blogosphere this month I have the world’s kookiest professional wild bird researcher, dopamine dressing, Marisa Tomei’s beauty secrets and more!

I took a couple of months off from posting the BOTB as I was soooo busy in the run-up to Christmas (but then, who ISN’T) – I’m glad to say it’s back for 2022 with lots of great content as always. The other thing that some of you may have noticed is that I’m posting it on a Friday… say WHAAAT?!

I’ve decided to shake up (rather, restructure) my posting schedule a bit, and instead of spending most of the last Saturday in the month writing the BOTB so as to publish it on a Sunday morning, I thought I’d free up my weekend and switch it to the last Friday of the month instead of Sunday.

Because who wants to work weekends if they don’t have to? As a freelancer I DON’T have to (I might as well take advantage of the perks of my job, after all), so who knows why I didn’t think about switching up the day ages ago #eyeroll

My other plan is to then publish on a Tuesday as well, so going forward I intend to publish new blog posts every Tuesday and Friday.

And yes, you may come back and laugh at me in six weeks when I haven’t managed to stick to that plan at all, and instead, I’m all over the damn shop.

But, Catherine needs STRUCTURE! And she needs BOUNDARIES! And she must stop working every evening and WEEKEND! And she must, without fail, stop talking about herself in the THIRD PERSON!

So onward, January BOTB, and show us what delights await us out there in the blogosphere.

Marisa Tomei does a Vogue beauty secrets video (her guide to natural skincare and everyday makeup)… could this 57 year old BE any more good at ageing naturally?!* I’m so in awe I’ve lost control of my grammar.

*I’m fully aware she’s probably had work done, but I just mean there are no overdone fillers or fish lips, she just looks great.

She’s only gone and done it again: Lizzie has written the most incredible story about, er, the very peculiar politeness surrounding using the car park ticket machine. Do NOT be put off by the (undeniably British) subject matter – it’s the best thing you’ll read this week, I guarantee it.

I’ve just discovered Drin the Bird Lady on Instagram – she’s a professional wild bird researcher and OMG her research method is the best EVER. It actually made me squeal with excitement.

Veronica’s ethereal photos of her wearing layers of stone-coloured cashmere and wool in a pampas grass field are the stuff dreams are made of.

As someone who studied photography at degree level I was surprised to find out I’d never heard of Belgian photographer Harry Gruyaert – thank you to Diana for introducing me to his (1980s era) photos filled with colour, light and perfectly captured moments.

As someone whose weight fluctuates dramatically, I’m definitely NOT on board with the concept of getting rid of clothes if they haven’t been worn in 6/12/whatever months. So Angie’s post about keeping clothes that don’t fit was sensible, practical and welcome.

I’m head over heels for Harlow’s 1940s beach pyjamas, and I’m not at all jealous of her wearing them by the sea in Australia’s summer. Not at all.

Anyone that’s met me (online or IRL) will know that orange with pink is my dream colour combo (just see my blog header), so you can imagine how I died when I saw Folake’s pink blazer/orange high waist pants ensemble.

Krystal’s tales of New York City’s old souls and her accompanying old-school film photos taken on a 1966 Rolleiflex camera are pure vintage-style joy. Oh, and that accompanying playlist she’s included is divine. I’m listening to it as I type.
