Blame it on The Queen’s Gambit, but I’ve gone mad for vintage shirts lately.
Two weeks ago on the blog I wore my new Stine Goya shirt which looks very vintage, so my love for that and my love for all the stunning outfits Beth wore in TQG officially have me poring over Etsy and eBay for bold vintage shirts and blouses. Because 2020/21 have become the years of the Zoom call, the top half is what’s important right now.
And oh, how I’m enjoying my love affair with 60s and 70s patterns and prints, and the joy that comes with scoring the perfect one.
Case in point: this incredible orange, lime, brown and white spot/geometric patterned vintage 70s shirt. As you can imagine, my heart did a little leap when I clocked it…!

It was crying out for gold jewellery, so I dug out my vintage lion pendant (first worn here, last worn here) and added another gold link necklace at the collar. The colours in the shirt were picked out by the trousers, and the tones of the snakeskin belt worked with them too.
(I have an amazing snake belt/necklace from the 80s that my mum gave me that I’m sure will feature one day… vintage jewellery might be my next big obsession. I can feel it.)
The best thing about these vintage shirts? I’m making my fashion slower and trying to avoid New as much as possible. Not increasing my carbon footprint where my vintage shirt obsession is concerned.
This is ACTUALLY the outfit I wore that day, all day, round the house. I decided I wanted to dress up again and not spend the day in jeans or sweats or just fitness clothes. I did my hair. I did my makeup. And BOY did it do wonders for my wellbeing. Now that the light seems to be just at the end tunnel – following Boris’s announcement of the road map till June – it’s brightened my mood no end.
There’s even glorious sunshine today that’s also predicted for the next seven days – how’s about that for positivity? I went for a run on Monday for the first time since before Christmas so it’s great to get that back on track again. Although this post is two days late (#busy) I’m feeling good about things (not just due to my slow fashion spending spree). It was overdue.
What are you doing to slow your fashion habits down at the moment – and do you happen to be as obsessed about vintage prints and vintage jewellery as I am? Comment below…

SO in love with the vintage 70s vibe of this post Catherine! <3
Isn’t it amazing how much of a difference putting ourselves together…and a little bit of sunshine makes?! I love the vintage shirt, it has such a cool vibe, you look beautiful!
Debbie

Thanks so much Danielle 😀 x
What a great find! In YOUR colors, too! Love how you styled it. I’m trying to restyle things in my closet with small additions. I bought a very cool 70s paisley dress on Etsy that turned out to be too big! So now I have to figure out if it’s worth it to have it tailored. I will keep trying if I can find cool things like this shirt!

I will admit that I’m feeling very smug about my find, Darlene…!! Thank you 😉
As for your paisley dress – if you love it then it’d be totally worth it to get it resized I think!
I love vintage but feel like I won’t know how to style it….
For slowing my fashion choices I am purchasing only (or trying) natural fibers. That forces me to shop more around and find stuff that I really love not only something that’s “in style”.

Pilar it’s fabulous to know that you’re doing that, anything that makes us more conscious of the choices we make is a good thing!
Goodness gracious certainly obessesd about your look Catherine and that is because I have always loved everything 60s and 70s. Taking a virtual bow here xxxxx Thanks for hosting. Sabina

Sabina thank you – the 60s and 70s really were the time for incredible prints, weren’t they?!
Love that blouse and how you’ve paired it with the snakeskin belt. I’ve been shopping vintage for years and always feel like along with finding the most unique items I’m also resourcing instead of always buying new.

I’ve been shopping vintage for years too, Norah… isn’t it great to have totally unique pieces?! My favourite items in my wardrobe are all my vintage items…!
A gorgeous print and 70s vibe! I am not buying fast fashion. If the clothes are cheap, someone in the production process is being robbed.

You’re so right Gail – and the effect on the environment from the textile industry is pretty devastating. While I’m not 100% perfect, I’m doing my best to change my habits x
Catherine, this shirt and outfit are simply amazing! And that lion necklace is magnificent! I have been shopping mostly second hand lately myself to reduce my carbon footprint. There are so many beautiful things to be found that were preloved! But I did just go on a shopping spree with my sister yesterday, buying both new and thrifted things. Sometimes I do cave in to the retail demons that haunt me! Ha.

I think there’s a special kind of thrill with finding an amazing preloved piece, isn’t there Shelbee?! Thank you my lovely x
You look super chic, loving this whole look! Thank you for hosting this link up!

Love the big 70’s sunnies!! And it was so back to the 70s with that shirt.
I love neutrals and classic style, but I do love a good loud shirt too. Stunning Catherine xx
Gosh, I really need to understand how eBay works. I love those kind of blouses, preferably polyester. Yes really. Thanks for hosting.
Gorgeous as always Catherine. I too fell in love with Beth’s outfits in The Queens Gambit. And I would never have thought of looking on Etsy for vintage clothing xxx
Those sunglasses are EVERYTHING. LOVE.
You look incredible, Catherine, especially in that ECU! Gorgeous! The shirt is awesome, by the way.
I actually made an effort today, too – wearing proper clothes and make-up. It really does help, doesn’t it? We’re still in full lockdown here in Portugal. Hopefully, we’ll get some good news too.
Hugs

Wow I am in love with this fabulous style. Thank you for link party.
