This blog post title won’t win me any SEO prizes, but it might make you smile.
Unless you really DID Google “fashun swankathon Waitrose Somerset” and found me that way – in which case welcome, and top marks for your excellent Google search powers!
The title simply came from the caption in Friday’s Instagram post, and it sparked a bit of discussion about shopping in posh ole’ Waitrose. I don’t shop there normally, but there’s one right by my hairdressers and as I went for a trim on Saturday, it felt like an opportunity to get dressed up… a hair salon AND expensive grocery shopping trip? Don’t mind if I do, and if it’s okay I’ll get my colourful swag on while I’m at it.
(Plus I HAVE to mention it… HOW MUCH ARE THEIR RASPBERRIES AND THEIR MEATS?!! I went through the “baskets only” till with the very few items I had, packed into my handbag and one extra shopping bag, and still ended up spending over £70. I still love shopping in there though.)
The things we do these days as going out-out treats, eh?

Anyway, my lewk:
Two key things here. First – the corduroy trousers. I wore them out for the very first time this weekend but I bought them TWO YEARS ago. They’re part of a suit (see the blazer here), but when I bought them the size up [to fit me at the time] was sold out. So I bought my regular size rather than sizing up, thinking “I’ll fit into them soon enough…” – of course, “Soon enough” became two years. But now they fit like a dream and I’m looking forward to wearing them with the blazer as a glorious red corduroy suit with bright shoes and shirts.
{Red corduroy trouser suit… excuse me while I have a little fashun-gasm}
They were worth the wait.
And the second key thing was the fact that I’m wearing my brown longline blazer/jacket AGAIN. For the million-squillionth-gazillionth time. I’ll never tire of it. Longline blazers (or is it a duster coat?) are the absolute BEST and I won’t have anyone say otherwise.
(BTW I’m not actually IN Waitrose in these photos, in case you thought I might be – this was back at home…!)
Are you digging the corduroy this year? When did you last say that you’re “digging” something… bring back the expression I say ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡°) Comment below!
Stay safe, XOXO

Thanks Martha!
I love love love love those shoes!!! I am not a fan of corduroy, I do not why ♀️ I like it on other people and love the vintagey vibe but not on me. The rest of the lewk I DIG a lot the sweater and the long line blazer with the accessories I really want to get a lot of sweaters if it ever cools down ‘round here

Thank you Pilar – I can’t get over how hot it stays for so long for you…!

thank you lovely Danielle! x
Yes, that’s what it’s come to for all of us! I’m sitting here in sequined jeans about to drive 3 hours home from a staycation. No one will see me.
Author
Sequinned jeans, wow!!!! That reminds me that I have black sequinned trousers, MUST get them out and wear them!
I adore that outfit on you – you look gorgeous!! And- I’m just so crazy about your hair coloour- to die for! Will come linkup my post when it goes live tomorrow. And please, drop by my place tomorrow as well to link up your post:) xx

Thanks Lucy! I’m finding linking up very hard atm, there’s just not enough for everything! Will do it when I can xx
Blazer or duster: it’s still a great looking classic! Just the kind of thing you EXPECT to get lots of wear out of, right? We do find odd things to do just to get out of the house, don’t we? During the height of our lockdown, the large hardware store was considered the Disneyland of our town!! Lol! I can’t wait to see the full red corduroy suit, Catherine!
xx Darlene
Author
I love that your hardware store was the equivalent of Disneyland, Darlene (lol)!!!! Thanks lovely, already thinking about how to style the suit… x
You look great, loving the fall colors! Thank you for hosting this link up!

Thank you so much Celyn 😀
You are so right about getting excited about dressing up for the most mundane things…lol! However, I think we should continue on with that even after COVID because it just makes life more fun. I love the lewk…the colors are beautiful and that blazer is amazing.

PS…Congrats on fitting into the pants, it’s such a great feeling when that happens!
Author
You’re right Debbie, we should!! I guess I already did that before Covid as I spend most days in dog walking gear or my sweats for working out… grocery shopping always WAS a reason for dressing up in my world!!!!! Thank you x
My favorite part of this post was “{Red corduroy trouser suit… excuse me while I have a little fashun-gasm}”! That is excellent! These pants are glorious and I can’t wait to see the whole red corduroy suit together! We do not have Waitrose here, but we do have Wegman’s which is an expensive posh grocery store. Super fun to shop but wicked expensive! Thankfully, the nearest one to me is about an hour away so I don’t visit that store very often. Fun post!

Hehe thanks Shelbee 😀 Wegman’s sounds like they’re in league with Waitrose to me… making us think we need all those expensive groceries!!!!! x
Lovely mix of autumn colours and textures with a special mention for those cord trousers . Love everything about this outfit. Your hair looks fab….gorgeous colour. Now off to check out that bucket bag!!
Author
Thanks lovely Erika! The bag I linked to is almost the same as mine, I’ve used mine loads and loads so it was a great purchase x
I love the Autumnal colours of this outfit – red is so warming – you look fab. Thanks for hosting this and have a great rest of the week!
Author
Thank you Penny – definitely need more red in my life so I’m looking to styling the trousers with the blazer 😉
I never been in a Waitrose, didn’t even know it was expensive. But our rules have been restricted again yesterday and first thing I did was grocery shopping online at a delicatesse site. Lol. Fantastic colors, and your hair!
Author
You should definitely pop into one when you next come to the UK, Nancy (whenever that may be)! If you want to go SUPER posh, go to the one in Belgravia in London. It’s not only a Waitrose but it’s in one of the most exclusive, most expensive areas of London… it’s so posh it has columns outside!!!!! 😀
During the lockdown a trip to Waitrose was the highlight of my week, and the only opportunity to dress up ! When I first saw your post I thought your local branch had started selling clothes from John Lewis. They’re trying to do more cross selling. There’s no room in my WR except for a few pillows and sheets, sadly.
Author
Hehe you too, Gail…?!! The Waitorse by my hairdressers is quite small too, good job as I’d spend even MORE in there if the range was larger!
Neutral tones with a pop of red are always a good outfit, in my opinion! These pants are so perfect for fall. =)
I hope you are having a great week!

Aww thank you Jill – I’m in love with this hair colour atm… gonna be a rose gold redhead for a little while yet I think!
Love your outfit! I looooove those shoes – want to buy them – but the Amazon link is broken, can you fix it or let me know name/maker on Amazon? thanks 🙂
Author
Thank you Dorie – and oh I’m sorry you had trouble with the link, I’ve checked it and it works fine at my end?! Unless you’re maybe in the US and therefore are trying amazon[dot]com, ours is amazon[dot]co[dot]UK? Here’s the description for you if it’s still not working:

Hope that helps! x

I should have said: ‘Wealsex’ is the brand 🙂
Looking nice and I don’t know what a SEO is. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.
Author
Thanks Patrick… SEO is Search Engine Optimisation, in other words what you write in blog post titles and the body of your post in order to make your post more visible and higher up Google searches 🙂
Your hair is gorgeous, such a beautiful colour! I love those cords with the brogues. Fabulous outfit! I never shop in Waitrose, it’s too expensive!

Aww thanks Sue – it’s nice to have you all joining me properly every Tuesday again! x
Corderoy in any form deserves to be in the spotlight and a suit would be absolutely divine. The overall ombre effect you’ve achieved with your color palette is brilliant.

Thank you Rena… I didn’t notice the ombre effect but you’re right, it is a bit!
Well why not enjoy a few luxuries in times like these. Your hair looks super, love the colour. Thanks for hosting Catherine.

Thanks so much Jacqui – funny how a trip to Waitrose makes my day more than clothes shopping does!!!! 😉
Love that cable knit sweater! And yes….love love love courduroy! It has such a good vintage vibe!
Author
Thanks so much Erica – the sweater is SOOOOO old, I think I’ve worn it since I started the blog (2011)!!
