5 Really Old Outfits I’d Totally Wear Again

5 Really Old Favourite Outfits of Mine | Not Dressed As Lamb, over 40 style

I stumbled across a really old outfit on the blog the other day and realised how much I still liked it – in fact I thought to myself that I’d totally wear it again.

Generally my reaction to anything I wore more than three or four years ago is one of horror, but as I liked this outfit from 2014 so much I thought I should go through my outfit archives to see if there were any others that also caught my eye. There were actually more than I thought, and it was quite interesting to see how my style has changed in some respects, but not in others. What it DID do was to remind me about certain pieces I still love and should wear again (with the exception of the many clothes I can no longer fit into, but that’s another story) – I guess this is what they call shopping your wardrobe… I should do it more!

Seeing old outfits – as opposed to just seeing old clothes in your wardrobe – can remind you of great ways to wear things. So if you’re not a fashion blogger it’s a great idea to document your outfits with a quick photo to give you that visual reminder of how to put things together (and as I’ve always said trust the CAMERA, not the mirror) rather than blankly looking at things hanging in your closet when you’re desperately trying to put an outfit together. I’d rather look at pictures of complete outfits and change them up a little than pull a thousand pieces out my wardrobe and try them ALL on!

In the end I actually found quite a few outfits I still really liked and would TOTALLY wear again (I’ll save the others for another post another time). My theory was that they had to be from at least three years ago to be classed as “old”, and to feature in this post I went with outfits relevant for this time of year, i.e. transitional winter to spring outfits. So more jackets and scarves rather than thick winter coats, and maybe a bare ankle or two.

I’ve also researched for alternatives for you to shop similar pieces so you can either recreate the basics of the outfits or just choose a similar single piece.

So here are my five favourite really old outfits – in no particular order… enjoy!

What a great Idea Catherine. You’re right about trusting the camera rather than the mirror too. I love the blue leopard skinnies but much of that is because you wore them when we worked on the Gray and Osborn shoot! Now THAT evokes a whole lotta memories!!! xxxx

I’ve recently started a file of outfit shots from my blog that I want to try to remember to wear. I kept looking at previous posts and thinking …”Why did I ever stop wearing that?”
P.S. And speaking of previous posts…I’ve been rereading a couple of your old “blogging posts” so I can remember to do what they advised. Thanks for all your kind and free advice.

Actually doing something similiar in my wardrobe. Love your outfits, particularly those tartan trousers.

I would totality wear every one of these outfits too, Catherine! You look gorgeous in every one, but I have to say I LOVE the way you look with plaited hair – very boho chic!

Love the idea ‘” shopping from your wardrobe ” we downsized house about 18 months ago and have a little less wardrobe space and I really could do with getting more mileage from what I own. Interesting enough we had a hanging rail for a few months until we got some renovations done and I managed just fine with about 25% of my clothes, though on the odd occasion I remember raking about under the bed in boxes for an additional piece to make an outfit !!!! Read somewhere that there were some apps to help you plan outfits, sounds good in theory ?!. Hope Riley is enjoying the better temperatures & his walks x

I love this idea for a post. Every once in a while a really old post comes up in the related posts on my blog and I think that outfit wasn’t half bad. Others I shriek in horror lol. I think I might do a similar round up. Also things I am still wearing after X number of years. I just did a major closet clean out and there are things that are still going strong that are 5 or so years old.

It’s just reminded me how much I wanted one of those Zara Bucket bags! I remember reading this! Lots of great looks here!

“and as I’ve always said trust the CAMERA, not the mirror” – GAH! I say that, too! In my old apartment I didn’t even HAVE a full-length mirror and I took to snapping shots with my iphone instead and I found those pics to be a MUCH better representation of how things actually looked, than my image in a mirror was.

I love the camo jacket over the rose print tee outfit. That’s totally still current, really any of these are. They may not all be your *taste* anymore, but none of them look dated to me.

    How’s Riley doing??

This is the perfect idea, Catherine!! Because it’s not like everything older is bad, right?
But I have to admit, that when you said your general reaction is usually horror—I totally laughed, because I’m the same way with my outfits. Yet, now that you gave me this idea, I looked back at a couple, and not all of them make me cringe!!!
My absolute favorite of these five is the first one. I think it’s the combination of red and pink and that cape that really floats my boat!!!
