My Greatest Photographic Moments of 2017

Unlike last year (where I totally forgot until May!), this January I’ve remembered to compile a post of my favourite photographic moments of the previous year as soon as the Christmas decorations have been taken down.

So again, like my Bloopers and Outtakes posts (which are meant to be a change from the norm of fashion bloggers rounding up their favourite outfits of the year – I do those quarterly), I like to do things a little differently: I’m showcasing my favourite images, not just the outfits. I’m so proud of Keith’s photography that he deserves a little shout out for all his efforts towards making me look as good as possible (not an easy task judging by my facial expressions in the outtakes)!

Same as last year, I’ve grouped the photos into certain categories: Stunning locations and backdrops, beautiful lighting, great composition, details and captured movement – PLUS! this year I’ve added in a new category just for doggy shots. We got Riley in March last year so he’s appeared many times on the blog now: I never expected a dog to steal my thunder so brazenly… I thought the saying goes that you should never work with children or animals? Well, this dog seems to be a natural in front of the camera.

(Maybe it’s because his previous mum is also a (totally fabulous) fashion blogger…?!)

I have a confession/apology to make: Last year I asked if any of you might like to see a photography tips post about lighting, composition, etc., and several of you said yes. I had SUCH a busy year I never got round to it in the end, so I’m definitely going to make time in 2018 for it. Things are going to change round here, I can tell you!! 😉

So expect tips on how to compose interesting shots, the same for lighting and how best to capture and work with it, ideas for photographing details (with examples) and so on. In other words, how we got these shots and how you can create similar images.

So sit back and enjoy these beautiful shots – here’s to all the Instagram husbands everywhere!

Well, I did teach him all I knew, Ashley…!! 😉 Thank you, I will tell him! x

Have you thought about going on a photography course together? Even if you don’t take photos yourself that much, having two heads (sort out how to improve a photo and use all the settings) usually works out better than one…!

  2. 8 January 2018 / 5:26 pm

These photos are simply stunning, all of them. You really push me to up my game. And a huge nod to Keith, your dedicated photographer. What an eye – what a team! I look forward to your photography tips post later. I learn a lot from you and if I ever get a new camera, I'll come here first to check your recommendations.

My goodness, when you see these different styles of photos all put together like this, you can SEE why you are an award winning blogger. The photos are absolutely glorious. The ones with Mr Riley are by far my favourite; they are so endearing, and BOTH OF YOU look so happy that it makes my heart sing with joy. Can't wait for your future photography posts too! xxx

Oh Lisa what a wonderful thing to say… thank you SO much!! I know how you love seeing Riley, it makes me happy that you get to see him regularly – he loves it here with us and we couldn't adore that dog any more than we already do. Funny how things (life!) turns out, isn't it…?

  4. 5 January 2018 / 12:20 am

I love how you broke these into categories! Some truly beautiful photos and inspiration. I hope your year is off to an amazing start Catherine!

I love the photos taken in Cornwall. The scenery is the perfect backdrop for your outfits. You look great in every color. How is that possible?! I live in the US and have been to Cornwall a few times – I'd like to go more often. We've visited, explored, and walked along the coast, Wadebridge, the beach at Bedruthan Steps and nearby spots, in Port Isaac, St. Ives, and Land's End. We live on the East Coast in US, but have much different landscape with flat, sandy beach, no rocks or elevation. Thank you for the chance to revisit the beautiful UK .

    • 5 January 2018 / 5:15 pm

So many gorgeous places!! I absolutely love Cornwall – I can imagine it's totally different to the east US coast. But that's where we're headed in September, we can't wait!! x

  6. 4 January 2018 / 10:36 pm

Stop it you're making me jealous Catherine! These shots are amazing – well done. I've been given a photography course for Christmas and I'm hoping to produce photos like this one day!! #aiminghigh #wishfulthinking.

Thank you Nancy – isn't the beach beautiful?!!!! Imagine having that on your doorstep, I'd do photos there all the time 😉

  10. 4 January 2018 / 6:36 pm

Ahhmazing images woman! Of course credit also to Keith 😉 You guys have been a collective inspiration to better my photography since day one of my Blog. That still hasn't changed since you always up the ante! Last year you were both instrumental in my move to shooting in RAW & using Lightroom. Now I have to use Blue too!!! Hahaha no way he'd stay still like Riley… xxx

  11. 4 January 2018 / 6:23 pm

Beautiful, all. My favorite, though, is the very first one of you and Riley…on the moors? I don't exactly know what moors ARE but that picture seems like maybe those are them? And I love everything about it.

And, you sneaky minx, slipping a "Great Booty" shot into the "Great Composition" category!

Your pictures – the photography, styling, you – are what kept me coming back to your blog in the beginning, before I had a feel for your personality. Now it's The Whole Package – well done, you *and* Keith!

Some really lovely photos Catherine – your Cornwall trip was amazingly scenic, I just adore that first photo with Riley. Your photos always set the bar high for other fashion bloggers, you are so, so consistent. It must take immense effort!! xx
