A Colourful, Preppy Outfit for Dog Walking in the Summer

Preppy summer style from Seasalt Cornwall multicoloured stripe t-shirt wide leg red trousers navy knotted neck scarf straw fedora hat | Not Dressed As Lamb, over 40 style

At last we seem to be getting some regular warmer (or should I say milder) weather – it makes walking the dog so much more pleasant.

I can’t wait for longer walks in the sunshine now that we’re into May (my favourite month)!

And I won’t deny it… Any excuse to try and get Riley into a photo shoot is a valid excuse, though to be honest he really wasn’t playing ball this time.

(I don’t know why I said that – he NEVER plays with a ball. Ever. He’s far too aloof/chilled/lazy for ball games, though that’s probably because he thinks he’s a human…!)

Normally if I don’t want him in shot he stands right next to me and poses for all he’s worth without leaving my side. THIS time I wanted him in the shot but he wouldn’t face Keith, instead giving the camera the most delightful view of his backside – he absolutely refused to turn and face the front.

In the end we just went with the close up shots where he at least faced the camera once or twice (please don’t judge me for looking like I’ve got my dog in a vice-like strangle hold, I really haven’t!)… and I really mean just once or twice. I’m finding out that having an Instagram Dog is a lot tougher than having an Instagram Husband – at least the husband cooperates for treats, Riley just takes them and still doesn’t cooperate!

Anyway this is a simple mid-week summery outfit kindly gifted to me by the lovely people at Seasalt – talk about appealing to my colourful side! It’s a little bit country chic, a little bit preppy and a little bit seasidey… Have you ever seen a more cheerful stripey top? I have a feeling I’ll be wearing these pieces with all sorts of things this summer.

I’ve been looking for some plain red trousers for a while and these are so comfy (and 100% linen) – and as regular readers know I’m a bonafide hat girl, so this straw “skipper” hat is perfect for my summer wardrobe.

I’ll be talking more about Seasalt in some upcoming posts throughout the year, so watch this space for more on that very soon…!

Oh and you look quite chic for dog walking. I am incorporating my dog into the pictures as well. Not because I thought of it, but because we combine dog walking with taking pictures.

I am sorry Catherine, but you left yourself wide open for this one (haha): what kind of treats do you mean when you say: "…. at least the husband cooperates for treats"….. I am so curious for the answer that I will come back to this post whahaha.

Loved the outfits in this post, colours gorgeous! I have always passed by Seasalt but after seeing your photos went in today and bought a couple of lovely outfits for a holiday. Am probably going back for the hat, it won't look as stylish on me but I love it

Riley is going to need his own blog soon Catherine! Hahahaha!
I love you in a hat babe, such a cute look 😉 I don't look anything like this when I take Blue for a walk, tracky daks & a stained old jumper with uggs or wellies. You put me to shame beautiful xx

    Lovely outfit, lovely summery colours.
I actually took our dog for a walk without a coat today! Sandles are always a problem as our 40kg rottweiler has a habit of standing on my foot – safety shoes would be more appropriate. As for ball games, she hasn't got a stop button, she'd carry on until she physically couldn't move. Luckily I know I can't carry her home, so I stop before she wears herself out.

OMG a 40kg rottweiler?!!!! Wow that's BIG! I've said to Riley once or twice that he needs to get a move on because I can't carry him home…! 😉

I have no clue what the weight loss comment is all about – who mentioned anything about losing weight? This post is about gorgeous, colourful summer outfits and the difficulty of getting dogs to pose when you actually want them to. It's a great post and of course Riley is ridiculously handsome – what little he agreed to share with us!

It's spam, Karen… I just hadn't deleted it yet!! And thank you – I'll see if I can get him to pose more cooperatively next time!! 😉

That top is so great. I'm probably overanalysing it, but at first glance, it is red, white, and blue, nice, but nothing ground-breaking. Then I see there is orange in there, and the cornflower blue colour as well, which are small additions but really make the colours sing together. I love your whole outfit, the trousers, the hat, the cheerful stripes and especially the most beautiful accessory, Riley. The photo of both of you is so magnificent, I can't stop staring at it! xx

Awww Riley so cute! Whenever I try and get my dogs Roxy and Luna to pose next to me in shots, it rarely works out so I totally sympathise, Catherine! The pic you did use is totally adorable though. I do love the outfit – the colours are perfect for this time of year and it really does have that summery feeling. It would work perfectly well over here in the Algarve, for sure! Although today it's bit grey and gloomy (warm though).
    Hugs,
    Suzy xx

As they say, Suzy: Never work with children or animals, it's so true!! I'm just glad there were a couple where you could see his face 🙂

And thank you – I can just imagine wearing this in the Algarve, soaking up the sun's rays… #bliss

    I laughed at Riley's disdain for ball-games…hahahaha!
Monty (our old whippet) was the same. I'm sure it is a sight hound thing.
They don't see the point in chasing it unless it can run away…fast!

Monty used to look at the ball then look at me as if to say "Really? If it's so much fun, YOU chase it."
Jake , on the other hand, is half terrier and the Bedlington half makes him chase that ball all day long!
I was so distracted with Riley's handsomeness that I almost missed your outfit!
I love the colour combination and the french-feel.
    Casual and effortless chic!

Sounds like Monty had the same disdain for ball games, Samantha…!!! #lol I do say he's a bit of a snob, he has such an aloofness (is that a word?!) about him – wouldn't change him for the world, though!

I like "French feel", that's a great compliment so thank you! x

This is so pretty Catherine! I'm not normally a color person but I adore your sweater and those poppy colored pants are stunning on you.
