Lockdown Style: Dressing Up a Sweatshirt

Lockdown Style: Dressing Up a Sweatshirt | Not Dressed As Lamb

This is the most I’ve dressed up in about the last… four weeks?

[Reading time: <2 minutes]

I thought I should wear something other than gym gear/leggings this weekend. I’m not afraid to admit I’ve taken my usual casual dressing [as I work from home anyway] to a whole new level since lockdown began. But this weekend I felt it was time I wore something that was still comfy but also coordinated and with SOME semblance of style.

A simple, loose sweatshirt (very old, very much loved and somewhat less predictable than the classic grey sweatshirt) in a spring-suitable lemon yellow, my current fave rose gold trainers* and some check trousers – that I really should be wearing more – was what I ended up with. The trousers are high in the comfort stakes BUT the light beige-blue colours in the check mean they don’t look out of place in warmer weather.

(I’ve added some alternatives at the end of the post in case you’d like to get some casual/springtime-suitable check trousers for yourself.)

And my way of dressing even the most mundane of tops/sweatshirts? Add the triple combination of a hat, headband or scarf, statement earrings and killer sunglasses. I GUARANTEE you’ll feel more dressed up with those added accessories than you would without – it always does the trick for me.

How’s your lockdown dressing going? Have you ventured into something other than leggings yet?! Comment below…

Stay home, stay safe XOXO

You look adorable, Catherine! I love these pants and there is nothing better than your favorite soft worn sweatshirt to cozy up in these days! Thanks for keeping it real, my friend!

Thanks Shelbee, I’ve been digging out all the comfy, non-sweatpants trousers I have in a bid to steer clear of the gym gear 😉

Love it! Everything about it. The sweatshirt, in particular 🙂
I’m living in skinny jeans (like I’ve always done) and trainers, with the odd day in sweatpants but I always put on a bit of eye makeup to make me feel better!

Suzy thank you! It’s soooo old but I still love it (probably because it was actually two sizes too big) 😉

My go-to for makeup each day is tinted lip and cheek balm… anything to stop me looking like a ghost!!

No doubt! Your look is super cool!

My outfits have been like a yoyo. Some days I haven’t even got dressed and some days I’ve gone over the top to cheer myself up. If I were to have a pair of trainers it would be these that you are wearing Catherine. I really like those xx

I’ve yet to go over the top yet, Laurie – though I think that might change when I get the summer wardrobe unpacked…?!

The trainers are super comfy btw 😀

Love this adorable casual look, Catherine! Lockdown or no lockdown. I love those plaid pants! So cute. Take good care.

Thanks Darlene – I really should wear them as much as joggers as they’re so comfy!

Looks nice. I’ve done my dash with blobbing around. Back to dressing sort of nicely yet incerdibly casually.

      Blobbing around LOL 😉

“Dressing sort of nicely” is exactly where I’d be happiest, Ratnamurti!

Super cute outfit! It’s the perfect combo of pulled together and comfy.

I’ve been getting dressed every day as it makes me feel better. It works….most days.

    Keep doing what you’re doing!

I agree, Sue – it’s accessories that do it for me. Even if I’m still wearing sweats I feel better with a hair/hat/earrings combo x

Love it! I’ve been wearing basic jeans and tee or gym gear, but on the odd occasion I wear something dressy. Thanks for sharing your outfit and stay safe Catherine. x Jacqui

I tend to be in the gym gear too Jacqui as I’m either walking the dog or working out (when I’m not recovering from a flippin’ strained arm, that is!) – I only have to change again to put on something “nice” so the leggings just stay on!!

Thank you my lovely, much love x

Cute as can be! Those ARE great pants. I think we’ll all be wearing a LOT of hats when we slowly re-emerge into the world. I’m picking up hair color out of my stylists mailbox tonight to do something about my roots – wish me luck!

Hehe I’ve always been a lazy hair washer Mary Katherine so hats are my go-to all year round…!!
I’ll be doing my roots this week too, I think enough time has passed in lockdown for those of us who need roots doing to think “That’s it! Can’t wait any longer!!” 😉

I’ve been “dressing up” nearly every day for a few reasons. First, I don’t do anything when I’m wearing sweats except lounge around, mostly in bed, because I must be ill or something…Secondly, I caught myself in the mirror a few weeks ago wearing something comfortable (as in thrown on) and no make up. I looked like I had been living in a hole for decades and I looked way too old…And thirdly, I had built up a professional wardrobe during my years of teaching. When I retired, a colleague asked me what I was going to do with all of my “pretty clothes.” I said, “Wear them.” So wear them I do. Why would I let my clothes languish in the back of my closet when I loved wearing them on school days? I love your rose gold trainers and was looking for some (on sale!) last fall. And it seems that pretty soon I’ll be able to put my hair in a ponytail like yours. My hairdresser closed her shop earlier than required, which I understood completely. Sigh…Carol in VT

Wow Carol you’re dedicated! I’ve been working at home for so many years I have the “being productive whilst wearing sweats” thing down to a fine art, so nothing has really changed for me in that respect.

Though most of my nice clothes are too small for me now, I was doing well with the weight loss and approaching being able to fit in them but lockdown has made the comfort eating rear its ugly head – now that my sprained arm is almost better I should be able to get on with the fitness again soon!

Good luck with the hair growing – thanks for your lovely comment! x

    Catherine!
You’ve inspired me to get cracking on posting my fashion too!
I’ve been mulling over this for quite some time now…I am a costume designer, putting my heart and soul into a 4 year old local business…it took Quarantine and seeing the fashion ladies in my email inbox to get me going on my ultimate goal—making clothes for myself!
I would be honored if you would check out my latest upcycle of a sleeveless, Missoni-style dress into a PUFFY SLEEVED Blouse…it would mean the world to me!

That’s lovely to hear, Eva – thank you! Good luck with your venture, I’m very envious of you being such a brilliant dressmaker and DIYer… I have the ability to do it (my mum was/is an expert seamstress and taught me) but I’ve never really felt the “want” to do it. I had a look at your “new” Missoni top from the dress… WOW it was amazing! I love that style of sleeve so much, that was an incredible transformation!!!! I think you’d have a market out there for people who want new things from their old stuff, so do keep pursuing it! x

How super cute is this outfit! I particularly love your sexy little Panama hat. Ack I really must make more of an effort, I feel like I need to have a ceremonial burning of my sweatpants first

The hat is really old as well, MT… in fact Keith wore it loads ( 😉 ) when we went to the US in 2011 as he forgot to take a hat!!

If you burn the sweats please put it on Stories, would love to see it!!!! haha LOL

    Love the outfit!!!
When I lived in London Accessorize was my favorite store
The trainers are killer too!!! I have thought of doing a “dress up” day every week during my 7 weeks of quarantine but the thought of doing my hair and make up and having nowhere to show them just brings me down ☹️

Accessorize is an absolute treasure trove, Pilar… I get most of my earrings from there! I have to admit I’m with you on the hair and makeup effort thing, though I feel SO much better when I do them, I really should make an effort more! Thanks hon x

It’s amazing what accessories can do for an outfit, isn’t it? That’s a very cute lockdown ensemble, Catherine! The buttery yellow sweatshirt is so cheerful. As for me, I’ve always had loungewear and going out of the house clothing. Since the latter almost never happens, I have begun wearing my more comfortable outside the house clothing at home too.

    Stay safe, my friend!
