The Ultimate One-Shoulder Party Jumpsuit

The Ultimate One-Shoulder Floral Party Jumpsuit | Catherine Summers AKA Not Dressed As Lamb, Over 40 Style Blogger

So we’re nearly at the end of the year and that’s one-fifth of the way through this decade. (I thought that might be a bit of a shock for you, it was for me when I realised.)

It’s my last post of the year, and this year’s posts have been sporadic, to say the least*. But I thought I’d go out on a high (outfit-wise) and share one of the only party outfits I wore this year. Not for Christmas as would seem appropriate, but way back in August for a party on my Virgin Voyages cruise.

The theme was red and OF COURSE I had to wear my (as then) recently purchased floral one-shoulder jumpsuit with the wide legs and puff sleeve that I made all sorts of ugly crying faces over when it fitted me like a dream (tears of happiness if that wasn’t clear).

What can I say… it’s a beauty of a jumpsuit and I will admit I felt like a million f***ing dollars in it.

We shot these photos in the tunnel entrance to the Pink Agave (Mexican) restaurant – my photographer Giles and I now refer to these images as the “Mexican space tunnel” shots. You can see why.

I’m not sure I’ll have many opportunities for dressing up big time in 2022, but after two rollercoaster Covid years, who knows what’s in store?

*I’ve got lots of planning and systems to put into place next year as 2021 has been a time suck in a not-good way; I need to get back on track with regular posting both here and on Instagram (and I welcome your thoughts re. TikTok? Is my audience – i.e. YOU – avid TikTok watchers? Keith is obsessed with it as an app, and I have to say I like the videos he sends me links to, but I’m not sure how my output can translate and whether my audience would relate to it or even be on it. I do have ideas though. All feedback welcome).

All that’s left now is to say I hope you HAD a lovely Christmas, I hope you HAVE a very Happy New Year and a good 2022, and DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES MISS the annual bloopers post on Sunday 1st January. I may just be looking back at the best (very worst?) of the bloopers from the last 10 years so watch out, it promises to be a good one.

How has your year gone? Comment below (and don’t forget the TikTok feedback, thank you)…!

Stay safe, XOXO

What an utterly fabulous jumpsuit! I’ve dipped my toe in the TikTok water but it does get on my nerves sometimes, there’s just so much nonsense on it! As if there aren’t already enough distractions! Thanks for linking up!

Thanks Emma – I’m still so undecided about TikTok!!

OMG this jumpsuit is THE NUTS! I adore it! And the photos are simply beautiful, of course. I hope you get the chance to dress up this year, Catherine. I hope I do too lol. But we’ll see! I’ve tried TikTok but I struggle to find subject matter worthy of videoing. But I do enjoy watching other people’s—I would definitely follow you!

Thanks Suzy – I’m just glad I got a chance to wear it!!

I know what you mean about what to film for TiKTok… need to have a good think about it. But thank you for saying you’d follow me! <3

That’s a very beautiful jumpsuit, I hope you get many occasions to wear it in 2022. 🙂
I am an blog-only reader, I don’t even have Instagram and would not use TikTok. I actually enjoy your reading often more than the pictures (though you have a great style!) and if producing photos is very time-consuming, I woulnd’t mind pure text posts.

      Thanks Frieda…!

That’s very interesting that you don’t do social media at all – it proves my point that blogs aren’t dead and that brands are missing a trick by not investing in sponsored blog content! As for photos, photography is my no.1 love (having done a degree in it) so they’re always going to be a big part of it for me. Plus it’d mess up the look of my blog overall, another thing that’s important to me! But thank you for having such faith in my writing, I appreciate that 😀

Great jumpsuit and you look fab. As for Tik Tok – no. As for Instagram even – no more. I truly can’t stand those inane videos.

I know what you mean about the inane videos, Paperesse, though I do enjoy a lot of the funny stuff on both platforms! And thank you x

Another fab outfit. Tik Tok – I have never seen it but I do know women in their thirties who love it. So that would also be a new audience. There are so many new social “things” like telegraph/gram (not sure which lol).

Interesting about the women in their 30s loving TikTok… that surprised me?! Definitely something to ponder!

Fabulous jumpsuit!!!! I want one but my body type (long torso short legs) seems to not be appropriate fir them I do have one from Asos I got ages ago but doesn’t fit and haven’t wore it yet ☹️
This past two years (TWO PANDEMIC YEARS!!!!) I had just two occasions to dress up, both this winter my sister in law’s wedding and my baby’s baptism. Didn’t feel much either occasion so I just got the dresses I kinda liked instead of something I really loved.

As for TikTok… I am 41 and couldn’t care less about it, besides, it’s used for China to spy hahahahaha jk!!!!

Thanks Neti! I had a feeling people generally wouldn’t be into TikTok but it’s interesting to actually hear from you lovely ladies and find out more x

  9. 30 December 2021 / 11:05 am

What a terrific jumpsuit. I can imagine you feel fantyin it. It is a knock-out.
As for TikTok.. I am not on it, but Instagram has changed their strategy to compete with TikTok. They are now favouring video over photos.
I am wrestling with the same subject. Do I have to create videos in future? I cannot see it in combination with my blog. And I use all social media as advertising media for my blog anyway. On the other hand, I get that video is the future.

Thanks Greetje… yes it’s a tricky one isn’t it and I do go “ughhhh” at the thought of everything being video – but then sometimes I imagine if everything was exactly the same as it was 10 years ago: wouldn’t it be boring?!! So I need to be open to it and get my thinking cap on 😉

  10. 30 December 2021 / 10:38 am

Fabulous jumpsuit! I don’t use Tik Tok and don’t even really understand how it works. I’m on Insta & Facebook but subscribe to your blog anyway, so that’s how I follow you. All the best for 2022!

Thank you Lizzie – I only got into TikTok (and created an account) because the husband kept wanting to show me videos on it, and I have to admit it is REALLY entertaining!

Plus you MUST leave your IG handle here for me: it’s not on your blog, I assumed you didn’t have it! x

      • 26 January 2022 / 1:23 pm

Thanks for the tip-off that it isn’t showing on my blog, I will rectify that. Is that the @… bit?! Can you tell I’m not very social media-savvy?! It’s @thisoddinarylife x

“…one-fifth of the way through this decade…”

It’s not been the best start to a decade, IMO 🙂 Let’s hope that 2022 is much improved.

On a more positive note, I think the outfit looks fab and FWIW, I’m with you on the impact looking right (as in we feel good about how we look) has on our mental health. Please, enjoy the memory of that photoshoot.

For TikTok, is there a way to embed then into this blog? I’m afraid I’m a bit old school and prefer to read.

Not the best start at all, is it Lynn? The only thing I’m grateful for (in a way) is that Covid decided to unleash itself right at the beginning of a new decade, makes thinking about timelines much easier (I do say that with my tongue firmly in my cheek)!

And thank you, the photoshoot was the end of a very long day (had to wait till the restaurant was closed, otherwise too many people) but we’d had a blast!
Can’t see about embedding TT videos at the moment, but I’ll keep looking x

Marvellous dress, in awe as usual! Re TikToc: I’m on it as one of my granddaughters (12-years old) makes an occasional video of her pet tortoise…. Of course I’d follow you on any media you choose to use. I wonder, though, what you can add to your presentations by going on TicToc, not much I think….. A very Happy and prosperous 2022 to you and your loved ones ❤️

Thank you Christina… (oh and it’s actually a jumpsuit)! I’m looking to find a whole new audience *as well* as engage with my current one – I told myself, You never know you might even enjoy it! Plus it’s the way forward for content creators and if it means I have to do it to keep up with the industry and to make money, then I seriously need to consider it 😉 x

I neither Tik nor Tok. I rarely look at Facebook anymore. I do still like Instagram. And I check my blog feed, which you are on, daily. And I think that jumpsuit looks AMAZING on you. I hope you find reasons to wear it next year, even if it’s just to wake up the cashier at the grocery store.

Hehe I Tik a little but don’t yet Tok, Renee…! 😉 I’m with you on FB, though I need to stay on it as it’s still so popular within our age group.

And thank you! I might be a cold in the chilled section so next time I wear it to Tesco I’ll take a cardigan, lol x

You look AMAZING! This jumpsuit is the first one I’ve seen that’s actually making me consider getting one… 🙂 I’m not on TikTok, but I do like the format – if there’s a way for your audience to get an email notification when you post new content, I would totally sign up for that! I just don’t want to end up endlessly scrolling yet another app. 🙂

Thanks Bethanne! There wouldn’t be an email notification option for TikTok (like IG doesn’t have one)… but in the beginning – assuming I take it on – I’m thinking I could plug it quite a bit (like with links on my blog posts). You’d have to follow me on TikTok like you’d follow me on Insta, then you check your feed and hopefully I’d be there…!
