Pantone announce their new Color of the Year in December, and every year I forget it’s coming around. But as a colour fanatic I’m always excited to find out what’s been chosen!
With every choice they make – especially as an avid lover of colour in my home AND in my wardrobe – I find myself usually loving the special hue (and only occasionally disliking it).
2017’s Greenery was a beautiful saturated moss green which I loved (plants are crazy popular again right now, are they not?)! And I was also a MASSIVE fan (but then so was the whole of the blogosphere it seemed) of the double whammy Rose Quartz and Serenity back in 2016 – you couldn’t move for pink and blue that year. However, let’s just say that 2018’s Ultra Violet did not go down well with me… I’m somewhat glad to see the back of that one.
But my favourite of all HAS to be the new Pantone Color of the Year 2019: Living Coral. I might even have done a little squeal upon hearing it was the newly announced colour for next year, because this is basically my absolute favourite colour of all the warm shades of oranges, reds, yellows and pinks that I love so much (hence my new pink and orange header I revealed in October).
SHOP THE LOOK:
In fact, I’m so known for loving this beautiful, watermelony/corally/orangey shade that my blogger friend Annette immediately messaged me to tell about Pantone’s 2019 choice, knowing how pleased I’d be. I mean, just look at my aeons-old, favourite pair of brogues (above)… Living Coral? The cashmere sweater which I’ve also had FOREVER… Living Coral? I think so!
To get excited over a company telling me what my colour of the year should be is pretty dumb, I know: I can choose whatever colour I like to wear, or to have in my home, or to festoon my Instagram flat lays with (not that I really do many of those anymore). But humour me, why don’t you… someone announcing that your favourite colour in the world should be everybody’s favourite colour? That deserves a WHOOP WHOOP, don’t you think? It’s my favourite colour and YOU will like it too, goddammit! It’s the Pantone law!
Let’s wait until the end of next year when I’m still crying into my coral-everything, sobbing Please don’t leave me… whilst everyone else is sick of the sight of that pinky-orange hue on errthang.
Funny how certain intangible things can inspire an outfit at short notice. Remind me about the colour coral, and I’ll abandon my current love for tangerine (albeit temporarily) and get the bright coral brogues out of my wardrobe ASAP. They’ve been worn SO many times, on and off the blog, and I’ve no idea how old they even are any more (they’re definitely older than the blog, that’s for sure).
The same can be said for the coral sweater which I’ve worn countless ways as well.
The rest of the outfit came together quite naturally: I wore the grey duster coat because of the background colour of the sea in Pantone’s Living Coral image (scroll down to see it), and brown baggy trousers (a recent purchase from Asos) just to continue my current love of all things burnt orange and tobacco brown. A splash of red with the backpack and a fun, spiky pink necklace provided the finishing touches.
Consider the Pantone Living Coral Bandwagon well and truly jumped on…!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
Linking up etiquette…
CLICK HERE to read the rules of linking up (and to grab the #iwillwearwhatilike button). Basically it’s just good manners to link back to here – to leave a comment is even nicer!
PLEASE NOTE: This is for linking up WHAT YOU’VE BEEN WEARING ONLY. Non-outfit links will be removed and you might be blocked if you turn out to be a repeat “offender”!
Want to receive an email reminder for the next link up?
Please note that due to the new GDPR laws I’m unable to send an email reminder unless you subscribe to the mailing list of your own accord. CLICK HERE if you wish to be sent an email with a reminder to link up to the #iwillwearwhatilike link up as soon as it’s live!
Do share the love and visit as many links as you can (you never know what other lovely like-minded ladies you might meet) – the original Instagram campaign forged some wonderful new friendships so don’t miss out!
Ooh your coral brogues! I’m so coveting a pair of brogues (we call them oxfords here) this winter but of course since I’ll only have one pair I feel safest choosing a neutral tone, like black or yawn taupe…why can’t i just be bold for a change and get luxurious coral ones? Or red patent ones? Or MULTI-COLOR??? Isn’t it funny how one person can do that and another feels she can’t??

I bought the brogues as an impulse buy in the sale years ago, Bettye – I regretted it a bit when I got home. Who’d have known they’d turn out to be my favourite EVER pair?!! See if you can filter your shopping choices by bright colours only and see where it takes you…!
Coral is a real kicker! And thank you so much for the inspiratin Catherine. Wishing you a fabulous and colorful pre-Christmas time. xx Sabina

Thanks Nailil – the blue-grey is so pretty with the coral, isn’t it x
Coral is definitely your colour Catherine, it suits you so well. I love the hit of red from the backpack against the more muted tones. Gorgeous outfit!

Thanks Emma – I felt it needed a bit of bold colour to tie it all in. Perhaps. Who KNOWS what I was thinking (if anything at all)…?! 😉
Catherine, What a lovely break from the holiday looks. I love coral and you nailed the look

Haha so many people have mentioned the Pantone COTY to me Ashley, knowing how much I love coral! x
I love this colour. As a redhead too, it’s perfect for my skin tones.

And coral is an anagram of Carol, Carol…!!!!! Hehe 😉
Well, of course, this is a beautiful color on you. I’ll have to check out the Pantone site. You’ve paired it with some other really interesting color choices- colors that I would have never thought of! Looking fab as always. Looking forward to adding more coral to my own wardrobe!

Thank you so much Melissa – I have a feeling coral would look amazing on you!
What a simply gorgeous colour! I love vibrant colours and try to avoid the dreaded black outfits that a lot of women wear. Currently I’m wearing a lot of yellow and lime green – together! Thanks so much for hosting! And did I say you look great in that colour – it’s so you!
Author
You may know that I avoid black like the plague, Penny! Yellow and lime sound lush, just right for this murky, gloomy time of year…
Thank you sweetie x
Hi Catherine, I am so with you on this, I adore all things coral and can’t wait. I do hope the shops embrace this idea. Fiona
Author
I hope they do too, Fiona! thank you hon x
Ha! It’s the year of Catherine’s Coral! I wear coral all the time so I’m a happy bunny too. I should pop over and see what others they are showcasing. Fabulous brogues! xx

“The year of Catherine’s Coral” – I’ll take that, Maria!! Thank you hon x
Hello Catherine,
Living Corall is a color that stands out for you. I admire your courage for all your posts on color. Just great you look colorful.

Oh Martina that’s so nice of you to say – thank you!
I’m not quite sure about living coral yet. I used to love peachy orangey shades but after having a 3rd colour analysis think the cooler colours work better on me. But definitely suits you!
Author
I’m definitely a warmer colours kind of girl, Gail – funny how we tend to gravitate towards cool or warm, isn’t it…?!
funny our colour preferences, I loved the colour last year but never got anything in that shade. This year gotta confess not my fav but it is a great one for you.
Author
Hmm it really wasn’t for me, Linda – funny you said that you didn’t buy anything Ultra Violet! I don’t think it really took off tbh. Thank you sweetie x
Coral is not a color I own a lot of, but I’m willing to give it a try, being the Pantone color of the year and all!

You should, Cheryl – I think it suits blondes really well!
It’s a gorgeous colour. I haven’t even looked at the Pantone forecast yet! I’m popping over for a nose right now! Have a great week Catherine xx
Author
Thank you so much Laurie! You too x
Lovely color- and I didn’t like the 2018 purple at ALL- so I’m excited about the change!
Author
It wasn’t very popular, was it Lauren?!! Thank you sweetie x
Are you sure you didn’t have a word with the Pantone people to get this colour for 2019!?
Did you bake them a cake or something?
It couldn’t be more ‘Catherine’ could it?
I’m looking forward to seeing more coral outfits… purely because I’m not really a big fan of coral and struggle with corally combos.
I need inspiration!!

No, I sent them a generous bribe, Sam 😉
Hehe seriously – yes it’s very “me” as you say (probably why I had loads of Whatsapp messages saying “look at the PCOTY!”) I might do a special round-up of all my Living Coral-style outfits before the year is out, so watch this space! x
I’ll look forward to that!
BTW… I can’t get your new blog button to stay on my blog.
The code copies and pastes okay then when I save it goes all funny and just leaves a line of text
Meh.
Annoying.
Author
I think I’ve got something wrong in the code as Nancy is having the same problem – it only needs to have one character wrong and the whole thing won’t work! I just haven’t had a chance to work out the problem yet, I’ll let you know when I do x =sorry=
I thought that it was such a difficult colour, but you show that it isn’t! That opens windows!
Author
Weird, isn’t it nancy: I find it the easiest colour to wear!! Although I don’t take much notice of my “colour chart” I know it’s a colour that really suits me, maybe that’s why…
It’s such a fabulous color and I love that it’s your favorite!! Color can make us feel so vibrant, and lord knows, I need fun colors for the winter that’s approaching!!
