10 Things I’m Loving This Month: July 2024

10 Things I'm Loving This Month: July 2024 | Not Dressed As Lamb, over 50 fashion and lifestyle blog

In my Things I’m Loving This Month I have nuggets of wisdom Wes Anderson style, the new way to stack necklaces, anxiety and perimenopause discussions – and more!

A few slightly more summery-themed things this month, though we haven’t exactly seen much of that (the sun) this year in Britain. Hence me picking out a cool thing for your garden for when it rains…! #EyeRoll

We’re currently watching the Olympics after having had Euro 2024 (which England lost in the final AGAIN, boo) and Wimbledon, as always for June/July. I know a summer of sport is not for everyone, but these type of sporting events do get me in the summer mood even WITH a ton of rain. (The opening ceremony in Paris with all the rain chucking down made me wonder if they’d actually held it over here instead.)

So if the sun could just play ball (see what I did there…) and join in that would be grand, thank you so much. Anyway – hope you like these lovely nuggets I’ve been enjoying the past few weeks. Happy Sunday 😀

This month I’m loving…

1. JB Copeland’s simple, straight-to-camera videos with him giving wonderful nuggets of wisdom (with more than a hint of Wes Anderson styling).

2. The new way to stack necklaces – I’m currently obsessed with shell necklaces, surfer bead necklaces and baroque pearl necklaces… I’m also currently raiding charity shops to find so-unfashionable-they’re-fashionable bead necklaces to layer them with.

3. Veronica’s stunning photoshoot on the beach in Florida at sunset with her kids and a simple white linen dress. Just perfection.

4. Ryan Reynolds discussing his anxiety: “People tend to only talk about their wins… but it’s really important for your kids to know that you lose.”

5. Confessions of an HRT-ineligible “super-flasher” which is a very funny but way-too-accurate story of perimenopause.

6. The f***ing adorable Instagram account @itslennie, a cartoon blob “trying to help u get through the day”. Oh my GOD it’s so cute and wonderful but ALSO as insightful and philosophical as it gets. “Do not let them dim the glow, baby!”

7. This monkey tail game – It’s Bananas – which I’ve seen on TikTok and does look like a lot of fun to play. I have a feeling my 12, 8 and 6-year-old great nephews and niece will love it (if I get it I might let them play it with me).

8. This fantasy name generator – if you do any kind of writing where you need to come up with fictional names, this website has you covered. It has hundreds (thousands?) of categories, from names for people from every country on the globe to lighthouse names to Game of Thrones names. I mentioned in my last post I’m writing a book and it’s been so helpful.

9. Keiko and Courtney doing ANYTHING together. Here’s “Keiko and Courtney doing sports”, and their retro tennis outfits (made by Keiko herself) just add to the wholesomeness.

10. This outdoor steel rain drum that would make a perfect gift for “someone who has everything” but enjoys their garden.

Ryan Reynolds comments are everything … no one understands anxiety better than someone who has it.

Ooo, that name generator is very cool (useful for those of us who get stuck on a name or phrase! Thanks for sharing.

I’m afraid the Dragon name generator caused some most undignified hooting: “Behold traveler, We are Eilrar, The Voiceless One; Freirsa, The Taker Of Life… and Jim, the Simply Named.” 😀

Maybe you’ll reboot the trend in necklaces. Who decides things are fashionable, anyway? 🙂

( Psst: good luck with the book. If it’s okay, I thought your Substack post about a pound, it felt like it had the hallmarks of a good story. )

Oh Lynn those dragon names are amazing!!!!! hehe 😉 “Jim, the simply named” is brilliant…!

I’ve noooo idea who decides what’s fashionable. That said, I DO think the new stacking chunky necklaces trend is partly thanks to Harry Styles as he’s worn chunky beads and pearls for a while now. And thank you re. the Substack post! I think the platform has been great for honing my storytelling skills: watch this space! 🙂
