It’s March, that means spring (which I LOVE!) and yet I celebrate with autumnal colours.
[Reading time: 2 mins]
A break in the incessant rain meant we’ve enjoyed a little sun over the last few days, and I’m sure it’s because winter is over and we’re now in the midst of spring.
BTW I don’t take aaaaaany notice of 21st March as the first day of [astronomical] spring. (Likewise, who on earth would say that 1st-21st December is still autumn and not winter?!) The meteorological seasons are FAR more my cup of tea because really, who wants to drag winter out for another three weeks like a negative Nancy. My brain is far happier “knowing” that it’s spring come 1st March, even if the weather doesn’t play ball…!
That said: I wore full-on autumnal colours this weekend. Maybe this will be my last hurrah in autumnal stripes and layers before I roll out the pink, yellow and florals?

SHOP THE LOOK:
Most of this outfit is all seen-before stuff, with one exception (first, the seen-befores):
The mustard (tobacco brown?) paper bag waist trousers were last seen here. It’s amazing how the high waist can make someone who’s very long-waisted (i.e. long body, short legs) seem like they have legs that go on forever – and that’s even without heels.
The burgundy flatforms were bought at Christmas time and have been worn almost to death ever since. They were previously seen on the blog here and here.
The striped sweater is by the fabulous Seasalt Cornwall and worn with a camel blazer here. (Can’t believe this is only its second appearance on the blog, I’ve worn it loads.) Scroll down for lots of striped sweater alternatives.
Finally, the sheepskin gilet which I got in the sale at Asos. I’d been borrowing Keith’s padded gilet a lot when I didn’t want to wear a full coat – the time came for me to get one of my own. I got one of the last ones (good for me, bad for you), but this one’s similar and also on sale, hurrah! Mine can be worn open and with the collars down (as above), or zipped right up so that the collars stand up and keep your neck warm.
I am FOREVER grateful to any item of clothing that provides a bit of neck warmth. Let’s hope said items are not needed too much longer…
Are you heralding the start of spring? Are you celebrating with autumnal colours like me (#eyeroll) or breaking out the florals already? Comment below!

Hi Catherine
As you know, I love these colors! I have much of it for my Fall-Winter wardrobe. The color of the pants and paper bag style is luscious! Love those burgundy brogues too!
I love the shape of your sunnies, wish I didnt have to get prescription sunnies as there are some cute pairs out there!
thanks for linking!

Thank you Jess – luckily (when it comes to sunglasses I mean) I only have to have prescription glasses for reading… my long vision is perfect! I just can’t see anything in front of my face, lol 😉
My computer died a death and I’ve missed this fabulous colour-festooned outfit!
Ahhhhh… I”m back online and feeling restored after casting my eyes over that fabulous sock and shoe combo.
Genius colour combinations and gorgeous light!
(Lucky lady…. it’s just rained here for three solid months…. okay, not REALLY…. but it feels like it)
Orange is definitely an all-season all-occasion colour.

Thanks Anna – I love all things 70s so it’s no wonder I’m still breaking out the autumn colours!
Especially love the colors in your sweater! And yes, it is spring where I live. (Las Vegas) We have had temps around 70.

Michelle I can’t say I’m not jealous of your warmer weather…!! Thank you, I love the colours in it too x
I wear autumnal colours all the year around!!! And I love 70s vibes.
Author
Maybe that’s why I’m so drawn to these colours at any time of year, Hilda – the 70s vibes!
Love the autumnal colors in this outfit! Since it was 80 degrees here today, I am definitely in full spring mode!

OMG I can’t even BEGIN to imagine what 80F (I think that’s about 27C) feels like anymore, Katie!!
I’m SO with you, Catherine. Bring on Spring!! That said, those colors DO work for this transitional time–beautifully!

Author
Thanks Darlene – tbh I don’t care WHAT colours I wear, just as long as spring hurries up…!
That’s so true about Autumnal colours working for Spring! And why not? They’re warm, bright and on you they radiate beauty xxx
Author
Aww thanks MT – warm colours all year, I say 😉
So weird! I have a super long torso and short legs, but when I wear stuff high waisted I feel like my is at my knees
I’ve been wanting a pair of paper bag pants but can’t pull the trigger because of the situation
Btw LOVE the flatforms I have a look alike pair in black
Author
Hehe I know what you mean, Pilar – but then my boobs are pretty much down by my knees so I’m less concerned about my bum 😀
Whatever the fashion experts say, I will stick to my mid-rise pants. I think I only have one pair of high-waist ones. I find mid-rise so much less restricting. Or maybe it’s just my imagination.
Author
Oh high rise definitely ARE restricting, Lorna – when I sit down it feels like the waistband is sitting under my boobs – but then what I love is that it keeps my tummy warm!!!!! And I’ll take all the warmth I can get in this weather, heehee 😉
What a totally Catherine outfit. If this was laid out on the floor without a person wearing it, I’d STILL know it was you! Fabulous colours, fabulous styling, and fabulous sun-kissed photos. I can smell spring! PS the sunglasses are gorgeous on you. xx
Author
Thanks Lisa – I love that you think the outfit (by itself) looks like me!! 😉
Yep, roll on spring. I don’t think I’ve ever been so desperate for spring as I have been this winter…
Fabulous! As a redhead, I am always happy to see others wearing ‘my colours’ too.
Author
Thanks Carol – not sure I’d ever tire of these colours tbh!
Such a lovely cheerful outfit Catherine – perfect for when the sun shines like it did today!
I’ve been wearing my dark florals whilst I’ve got the thick black leggings on to keep warm. Hopefully it won’t be long before the paler colours in the back of my wardrobe come into play!

Thank you Helen… yes we had sun on Tuesday too but it soon went and we’re back to heavy rain again. Gawwwwd I can’t wait for spring! #cryingemoji
I had to cycle this morning to my gym and it was still freezing. But the sun was shining and the sky blue and I enjoyed it so much! It was fantastic!

Oh doesn’t sunshine make a HUGE difference, Nancy?!
Since it keeps on raining here or it’s cold, I have been wearing a little bit of everything but have been trying to bring a taste of spring with either my scarves or another part of my outfit. I have yet to try a pair of paper bag waist pants. I had bought a pair of short with that waist but they were too short.
Author
I’m trying to do the same, Mireille! You’ll like the paper bag waist trousers if you want to keep your tummy warm 😉
Always love your outfits, Catherine. Looks like these photos were taken just before sunset? I’m working on a blog-launch of my own, and loving all your photo advice from previous blogs.
Author
Yes, the golden hour was in full swing, Mireille… we had a couple of days of sunshine before back to rain again!
Good luck with your blog – how exciting for you!!!!
Yes, Hurrah for spring! I’m loving the earlier mornings and it’s not dark now until around six oclock. This makes me happy alone. Love the Gillet Catherine. Perfect for now. xx
Author
Aren’t the lighter mornings and evenings AMAZING, Laurie?! It happens Every. Single. Year. yet I still say to Keith “ooh isn’t it light for 6 o’clock” as if it’s never ever happened before…!
Thanks for hosting Catherine. Love a daring look and the color combination mucho! xo Sabina

Thank you so much lovely Sabina! x
Such a fun outfit, Catherine! And beautiful colors. I am getting all sorts of 70’s vibes and I love it! I am so ready for spring myself. Hopefully it arrives soon.

Isn’t it funny how sludgy autumnal shades just make everything looks 70s, Shelbee…? I love it 😉
And thank you my darling, roll on spring x
How funny, I wore orange in my blog post yesterday and was saying how I tend to wear it more in the fall….yet it’s a perfect spring color.
