I’m a hat girl all the way, and if I’m given a chance to own an actual Indiana Jones hat, I’ll take it.
[Reading time: 3 mins]
A day rarely goes by in the colder months when I don’t wear a hat, whether that’s a woolly hat, fedora or beret – see what I mean when you look at all my outfits). I now have the ultimate hat, one of the most well-known styles associated with a person or character that I can think of.
The wool felt Traveller hat* is the specific fedora style worn by Indy himself, and mine was a gift from French hat makers Bon Clic Bon Genre. It was totally customisable, from the hat style (of which they have dozens) to the colour, hat size and colour/style of band. I even have a label inside with my blog name on it. The quality was stunning, so I can highly recommend this brand if you’re after a colour in a particular style and in your size.
I chose the colour nearest to the one he wore (yes, I even Googled it), but I did add an optional feather just to make it a bit more mine. I didn’t have any green hats, and thought my hat collection was somewhat lacking one – it was, until now.
And what should I wear it with? Lots of winter layers, in contrasting shades of red, orange and burgundy.

SHOP THE LOOK:
The platform brogues are making their second appearance after their debut last month, and I’m obsessed with wearing patterned tights with them. Adds a bit more drama than plain socks or a bare ankle can muster.
After last week’s post showing off my greatest photographic moments of the 2010s – and feeling a little sad that our photography has got stuck in a bit of a rut lately (usually due to lack of time and the shoot being rushed) – I thought we’d try something a bit different. I went through magazines and fashion photography books for inspiration and we talked ideas.
We ended up going for a few more abstract images, a little black and white, a bit of deliberate motion blur. I’m as much about creating something beautiful to look at (in terms of imagery I mean, not just my ugly mug! 😉 ) so creativity and design are just as important to me as what I’m actually wearing is.
If you were to design your perfect hat what exactly would you choose? Would you go for something from the movies like I did (Bonnie and Clyde? A Fistful of Dollars? Annie Hall? Breakfast at Tiffany’s)? And – thoughts on the images we’ve taken? Comment below…
XOXO

I love this colour combination! Your hat is fabulous…I love the close up photo of it. I have loads of hats but fedoras and baker boy styles are my favourite.

Thanks Emma – I can imagine you in this outfit (especially the hat)!
I’m having a bit of a hat moment right now too, which goes against everything I always thought I was sartorially. This Indiana Jones hat is REALLY CUTE.

I’ve converted you, Kristin – HURRAH!!! 😉 hehe seriously – a hat is a go-to for me, summer and winter. My frequently unwashed hair would scare everyone…!!
Thanks hon x
Love the mix of oranges and berry shades! And that is a fabulous hat.

Aww thanks Darlene – Indy is the best 😉
Such a great look, I’m loving how well all the colors coordinate and the sweater is gorgeous! Beautiful hat as well, it ‘s the perfect accessory piece for this outfit!

Thanks Ellibelle, I have so many things in these warm colours now it makes putting outfits together much easier somewhat…!
I am inspired to try different things: you create unexpected pairing that work well and I will never know what will work if I don’t try it. My friend made me this weet sleeveless shirt that I plan to wear tomorrow that I would never have picked for myself but when I tried it on, I loved the unexpected style. I need to move out of my comfort zone every once in a while!

As I always say, Mireille: it’s only clothes, who cares if they don’t quite work… you just take them off and try again! I’m glad your friend made you try different things on, I ALWAYS think we should take a ‘wild card’ into the changing room, something you like but think wouldn’t look good on you, or that thing that women say: “I couldn’t get away with that”. You never know, it might just look amazing! Stylists have done it with me on photo shoots, so I’m always open to suggestions these days!
Thank you my lovely x
I love these colors and I adore that brooch

Im totally with you about hats Catherine. I’m actually looking for a leather beret at the moment but now you’ve distracted me with this felt beauty!
Author
OOOOOOOH I can just imagine you in a leather beret MT! Etsy would be my first stop, have you found anything there? x
That pair of hat is stealing my heart away…loving everything…❤️

Thanks Soma so much xx
Beautiful images, Catherine. I especially love the close up one of your face and the hat, with the little feather wisp matching your hair and the sparkly brooch twinkling below. Beautiful!! Please send help because I’m off to explore their hats and it is likely I’ll be sorely tempted!! xx

Thank you Lisa! We really tried to stop with our “timesaving photoshoot formula” that was getting pretty boring… it was finally time to switch things up a bit. And soweee about the hats site, I know there are loads you’ve seen that you love!!!
I love your colorblocking here!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Love the hat and the navy band with the feather. That will look great with denim too, very versatile colors. Is it a Fedora?
Bonnie & Clyde has such great wardrobe. I love Bonnie’s classic sweaters, skirts and beret. The opening scene wear she puts her “out of doors” clothes on over her “in doors” slip made me realize how comfortable women were meant to dress and I bought some full slips so I could o do the same. You can even sleep in a slip. Elizabeth Taylor also does this in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (wears her slip indoors.) We can learn a lot about how to dress from these old movies.
Author
Yes it’s a type of Fedora, Liz – namely it’s called the “Traveller” style which is the actual style of fedora that Indiana Jones wore.
And yes to old movies having an influence on our style… they’d ALWAYS be my first stop for inspiration! Thank you hon xx
I love hats and you my dear are a true hat person. Stunning as usual
Author
Aww thank you lovely Linda! xo
Hats suit you so well Catherine! I’m all about the Indiana Jones (or Phil from Time Team) style. The feather was the perfect touch.
Thank you for hosting 🙂

I’ve always loved Indy’s hat, Helen – but OMG YES to it also being a Phil from Time Team hat!!! He’s the best, LOL!! 😀
thank you xx
I’ve got a few hats, but not sure they suit me! This is wonderful and looks perfect on you, love the outfit, nice to get inspiration from you Catherine. Jacqui x
Author
I think hats can suit everyone, Jacqui – it’s all about getting the right shape, or simply having the confidence to wear it. I know they make many people feel a bit weird/uncomfortable, so if you feel like that then they won’t seem to look on you because your confidence isn’t radiating out. But throw a few on in a photoshoot (not necessarily to publish) and study the pictures on your laptop or monitor. It’s the only way to get a truly objective opinion (in other words, don’t trust the mirror!)
Thank you my lovely x
I’ve literally given up on finding a hat that suits me! Looks great on you though Catherine. xx
Author
I bet they DO, Laurie, it’s just you that doesn’t *feel* right in them, amirite…?
Thank you sweetie x
Great tomato top! I love it with the all red outfit and Indy hat.
Author
Thanks Gina – it’s my perfect red (orange)!

Hehe not sure I’m going to go on any adventures with bugs and spiders, Sabina – though I’m always up for a bit of travelling (and I don’t mind snakes)!! 😉
Thank you my lovely x
Love, love, love!! It reminds me I need to pull out my brogues. When it’s chilly, all I think about are boots, but those socks make it so fun.

Aww thanks lovely Shelbee xo
The hat is fabulous, Catherine! Who doesn’t love Indy, eh? If I was to design a hat, it would probably be a cloche hat or something from the 30s or 40s. Purely because I just love the style from those eras!

Oohh a cloche would look amazing on you, Suzy… I’m pretty sure they had that style on the site, they had every style I could think of (and more)! Thank you hon xx
