Someone please tell me how we got to mid-August already?! As summer will soon be drawing to a close I thought I’d look back at some of my favourite late summer outfits from the past few years…
I’m running two days late this week with the link up, apologies! The weekend turned out to be a pretty disastrous one for several reasons… nothing major, but it meant the urgent weekend tasks were forced over into Monday and Tuesday. I didn’t realise buying a new-build house would actually turn out to be so much work!
So as I didn’t get a chance to take any outfit photos this weekend (we were also “enjoying” some much-needed torrential rain, and that didn’t help this blogger’s need for outfit shots either), I thought I’d take a look back at some archives and ponder what I’ve worn during August in past years.
As much as I bemoan the end of summer, a new season is always quite exciting. (Did this summer-lover really just say that?!!) Therefore without further ado, I shall leave you in the capable hands of the Not Dressed As Lamb of summers past…
Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured next week!

1. Palm Print Co-Ords
I always considered this my ultimate summer-to-autumn outfit: the Mango co-ords. I bought this top and trousers combo in Spring 2017, and to me the colours always looked more autumnal than spring/summer. But I’ve worn them a couple of times together and LOTS of times separately (in warm weather and cold)… co-ords rule because they are so versatile.

2. Printed Maxi Dress
Maxi dresses are also versatile because they too work in all weathers. On their own with sandals in summer (is there an easier outfit than that?) and layered with roll necks, blazers and boots in winter. This maxi with a dark background suits the transitional seasons so well: any one of the ones I’ve chosen below are great choices for late summer.

3. Blue Stripe Shirt and Hareem Pants
As I’ve become a bit of a fan of that eternally summery fabric of blue and white cotton stripes (as this dress demonstrates), late summer was made for pairing this classic with darker colours like black. I wore my red espadrilles and a white fringed bag – both keep the summer vibes going.

4. Almost-White Jeans and Lace Top
In my original post I mentioned that these jeans aren’t actually white, they’re a washed-out lemon yellow. But in the picture they pretty much look off-white, and as an all-white look is perfect for summer then I think crowbarring in one more outfit like this before the summer ends is a great idea. Like the previous outfit, add a splash of colour with a bright bag or shoes (I love red and orange as you can tell)!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Monday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Love the concept of this post and these looks are effortlessly chic. I love them all but those lemon/ off white jeans with red espadrilles outfit is stunning x
I can’t believe we are already getting thru August, wow! I love all these looks, especially the palm print – so fun and a beautiful outfit as we move into fall!

I don’t know how we’re suddenly in the middle of August either, dearest Catherine!! I guess it’s just as the saying goes – time flies when you’re having fun. And Robin and I have certainly been doing that…despite the fact that he lost his job in June, and we’ve consequently been challenged with a somewhat restricted budget for the past couple of months. Luckily, spending weekend afternoons driving around in our convertible doesn’t cost too much; with some fuel in the gas tank and Starbucks in hand, we are pretty much good to go!! P.S. So happy for you, Keith, and Riley that you’re getting settled in your brand new home; but it IS surprising how long it can take, isn’t it?! XOXO

Monika you have such a positive outlook despite all your troubles lately!! And thank you for the kind words… yes, it’s taking ages!?
I too know exactly how it is when you move into a new home – there’s so much to do! And for us a year later we are still at it, with a complete bathroom refurb going on right now which is very disruptive. Love that top and trousers combo – it’s just divine!
Author
Thank you Penny! Our last house took us yeeeeears to refurb (we gutted the whole place) – this time we thought a new build would mean simply unpacking boxes… how wrong we were! Of course you don’t have anything like curtain poles or bathroom cabinets or toilet roll holders already up for you… there’s a never-ending list of stuff like that to do, and you have to go buy it first and flatpack the bigger things!! Luckily we have a brand new Ikea opened up about 20 mins away from us, and strangely I rather LIKE flatpacking 😉
Dear Catherine. Sometimes real life takes over and that’s just the way it sometimes is. I think you have done a marvellous job posting so regularly despite all kind of real life situations that asked for your attention. It’s a good choice to spoil us with you favourite outfits of past summers. I seem to have missed that gorgeous butterfly maxi dress earlier, so thanks for sharing! Love, Lieske
Author
Lieske thank you! I’ve actually worn that maxi dress more times this summer than all of the last three summers put together…!
A nice recap … first outfit is my preferred one! Happy day xx

Lui those co-ords have been SO popular with everyone! Thank you my lovely x
Crowbarring in another outfit? Great writing. I love the image. It’s always fun to take a look back. Thanks for hosting the linkup.

Hehe it was the best way to describe it I thought Melanie 😉 !! Thanks hon x
CONGRATULATIONS on the new home Catherine!!! Late summer style can be tricky, but I love how you’ve mastered it!
P.S. Thank you very much for the lovely feature this week 🙂

Thanks so much Joi! And you’re most welcome for the feature. You look amazing as always.
You really do have such good summer style, always so varied. I can’t believe where this summer has gone either, it is starting to feel most autumnal around here… I hope you settle in okay in the new place, I kind of imagined with a new build you’d have nothing to do, like moving into a hotel! Tell us all about it! Xx

Aww thanks P! I kinda thought it’d be just a case of unpacking as well, but crikey the work has been non-stop!! Yes once we have the two major jobs out the way (having a shed put up and the loft boarded, both of which will be done in the next few weeks) then we can get the rest of the boxes unpacked and out of the house. I’ve never done so much flatpacking in all my life 😀
Soon we start on wardrobes which we don’t have ANY of at the moment: Ikea Pax planner expert, here we come…!! (and yes, I’ll write a blog post about it once the bulk of the work is one) x
I hope you put it all into a blog post Catherine. I love hearing all the details of other people’s house moves. I know I may be a bit of a weirdo but it’s just fascinating, particularly the differences between countries. One thing I know for sure it’s never straightforward!

It’ll definitely all go into a blog post MT! It’s so not what I was expecting, it’s hard work but enjoyable nonetheless. Having a new build definitely throws up a lot of challenges: a lot of companies don’t yet recognise your house as existing yet if you’re not on their database… sorting out your utilities and insurances is great fun 🙁 #facepalm
I enjoyed seeing your Summer favourites , inspiration as we head toward Spring in Australia. Enjoy putting the finishing touches to your new home. Many thanks for hosting.

Thanks so much Jill – yes it’s that crossover period for what we wear between the two hemispheres isn’t it?!
This goes to show how classic your looks are Catherine!!
And thanks for showcasing my mom in your line up!! That will just make her day and help her confidence!!
XOXO

Great to see your old post outfits again, I’m not sure I’m ready for Autumn yet, but probably will have to be soon enough as the weather is starting to turn at times. Thanks for hosting. Jacqui Mummabstylish

Oh I truly hope the summer goes on forever Jacqui, but I know that won’t happen…! 😉 thank you x
Catherine I love seeing your past posts. I’m always amazed at how quickly your hair grows too.Glad to see you back on here …
I love that new build smell, a bit like that new car smell (always makes me feel excited )
Am I strange?
Ashley xxxxx
Author
No, not strange Ashley – I love new car smell and I love new house smell too… I guess I’m used to it now but the carpets still new (AHEM not that I go on the floor and smell them or anything…) 😉 LOL
As always Catherine you look amazing in every outfit. I’m still holding on to summer (not had my summer holiday yet) although I do love Autumn when it properly arrives!!

Just about to start a total revamp on my little London pad. I’m excited!
Is there anything you don’t look good in? xx

Oohh Laurie how exciting! Enjoy!!
And thank you, you’re a sweetheart as always x
Oh Catherine, I know exactly how you feel after buying a new build myself four years ago. It’ll all be worth it!
I love all of your outfits, but I think the palm print co-ords is my absolute favourite. You do look gorgeous in them all though xxxxx
Author
Isn’t it SO much work, Liz?! So many toilet roll holders and towel rails and cupboards to buy and put up, then there’s so much flat packing to do… it’s never ending!!! But you’re right, it will be worth it – it’s already coming together nicely 😀
And thank you for the lovely comments! You’re an absolute love xx
That maxi dress is so very pretty! And let’s just say that you are fashionably late! Have a great day!

Thanks Nancy – and yes, that’s what I meant to say 😉 haha x
