I actually got this gorgeous feather Cossack hat last Christmas (2013 I mean) but the months following were too mild to wear it – you need a really cold day to wear this beauty.
So it finally got its first outing this month when the temperature dropped and =ohhhhhh= how it keeps your head warm. With a checked coat bought a few winters ago (that I’d almost forgotten I had), a thick roll-neck sweater, coloured jeans and ankle boots I had a toasty warm ‘winter neutrals’ outfit. With a bit of red thrown in.
You need a certain amount of confidence to wear a hat like this – I’m a big fan of hats and usually happier with a hat than without – but this one is so huge it takes a lot of bottle to go round doing the whole Julie-Christie-in-Dr-Zhivago thing. Mind you, I have a little head so it’s nice to have it beefed up for a change…!
Are you a fan of hats? Do you feel you need a lot of confidence to wear them – and would you wear one this huge?! Let me know!
P.S. Last chance to enter my Elvis & Kresse luxury bag giveaway – win a bag of your choice made of reclaimed fire hoses(!) up to the value of £200…

Yvonne from http://www.Funkyforty.com x
Aww Yvonne thank you, that means a lot! x
Winter outfit PERFECTION, dearest Catherine!! First off, your "cossack" hat is freaking adorable!! I especially love that it's white, and made of feathers instead of the more expected (faux) fur…talk about a statement!! This belted plaid coat is another one of your outerwear pieces that I'd gladly "adopt" if you ever decided to re-home it; I'm loving its slightly 70's vibe!! Finally…those red jeans layered with the socks and the tan booties?? Positive proof that things don't always have to match in order to "go!!" P.S. I know what you mean about needing confidence to carry off a hat; but don't you find that the hat sometimes GIVES you an extra bit of confidence?! XOXO

I like your attitude about it giving you the the confidence, Monika… that's what I should be thinking!! And thank you for all the lovely comments. You're a total doll as always x
I love this hat!! I have two similar ones, although slightly smaller (love yours even more), in black and fuchsia. Don't be afraid to wear it. It looks gorgeous on you. The whole outfit is perfect. And you know I don't do flattery.
Greetje
I know that you don't do flattery for the sake of it, Greetje, so that makes the compliment all the better for it!! Thank you so much xx
Wow! Looks so great in here outfit
I also want that feather Cossack hat. <3

Hi Catherine you look fabulous I love your coat my best friend had a hat like that and she only wear it when it's very cold.

Thanks hun – and nice to 'meet' you! Hope to see you again x
I loved that hat from the moment I saw it on your instagram. And that coat is so perfect, too!
Aww thank you so much, E!! The coat is still a beaut even though I've had it a few years :))
Heeeee, LOVE IT! I tried on a similarly huge hat — in red — at a local haberdasher's this past winter, which you can see here at https://librarianforlifestyle.wordpress.com/2014/12/24/what-i-wore-to-a-holiday-brunch/ . The salesman said they had sold out of the purple and green versions! 🙂
Jen @ Librarian for Life + Style
Jen it sounds amaaaaazing in red – I'll pop over to have a look! Thank you for your lovely comment xx
GORGEOUS hat – I would love to wear it if the temps would drop below 70 degrees here! Gorge coat too. Thanks for sharing with Visible Monday, xox.
Hehe it's certainly not suitable for your Florida weather, Patti – I think you'd melt!! Thank *you*, and for hosting of course xx
I love this outfit and that hat is FIERCE! Certainly only necessary when it's frigid outside!
Sed Bona
Thanks Sed…!!! You can only get away with such a massive fluffy thing when it's reeeeeally cold I think 🙂
Oh yes I would wear that hat…it wouldn't even have to be "too" cold for me to go for it. :o)

Boho Bunnie
Hehe definitely too warm for LA, Andrea…!! But I reckon it'd perfect for Ohio 🙂 Thank you so much x
This hat is everything!! Of course you wear it so beautifully Catherine. It has been so cold recently!
Take care,
Daniella xox
Awww Daniella thank you… and yes it has been!!! Much colder than last year!!
It's a great hat! I love wearing hats, but it takes time to find the right ones.
Very true, Su-z. But I must have spent a LOT of time doing just that because I have a massive collection ;)) Thank you x
I love hats and you are correct it takes a lot of moxy at first, once you start wearing them though it just becomes second nature. I love this hat and coat that you are wearing
I think as long as it's really cold it's fine to wear it and not feel silly – I think it's just the fact that it makes my head sooooo huge, Linda!! Thank you hun x
What a perfect checked coat!

Thanks Dawn, they go really well together I thought…! x
I love these types of hats, my grandma has a similar one from real rabbit fur and I want to wear it so badly, but I look kind of weird. But after seeing your amazing outfit I'm pumped! O_O Have to phone my grandma!
Ooooh I'm not sure I could wear a real fur anything, Keit… the feel of real fur kinda grosses me out (and I definitely wouldn't buy real fur new). But I've always wondered if it's okay to wear vintage; for me it's just an icky thing. But I bet it would keep your head super warm!! x
you look gorgeous! I do love that tartan coat…and that fur cap is so glam!
http://modaodaradosti.blogspot.com/
Thanks so much Ivana – I keep forgetting I have this coat!! Must wear it more x
I love hats anyway but this one is stunning and you look gorgeous in these photographs.
Aww Julie thank you, from one hat fan to another xx
I love the checked coat. I don't think I could pull off a hat like that.
Rubi | The Den | http://www.the-den.blogspot.com

Great minds think alike – I've gone for a big furry hat on the blog today too!
Love your hat with that coat, it looks super, and definitely will keep you cosy. Thanks for your lovely comment appreciating the Kate Bush homage! There will definitely be more Bush inspiration in the future…
x
I'll pop over and have a look, P… I think we're definitely getting the cold temperatures this January – this time last last year I was wearing a biker jacket, no scarf, skinnies and loafers without socks?!!!
