I can’t remember EXACTLY when I bought these jeans, but I know it was many, many years ago.
I can pinpoint it to buying them before Keith and I bought our first house together, so that’s 16 years at least. And when your jeans are that old and you still love them and still wear them that much, then you know they were a good buy. I’ve worn these jeans SO many times – IRL and on the blog – that the zip broke months and months ago and I finally fixed them last week. Mind you, I couldn’t fit into them for at least two years so I’m super happy to be able to fit in them again.
I do actually have a pair of Levi’s that are even older than these; however, it’s still a bit scary to know you have denim [you still wear] that’s older than Millie Bobby Brown…

In what I think might be the last hurrah of summer, I bring you old, bold sandals and a soft, cotton shirt with my jeans this time around. Not forgetting the 70s-style headscarf: despite appearances, it’s not vintage. Just a gorgeous green and orange pattern on a scarf that’s begging to be tied at the nape of my neck in the classic way that Jackie O, Chief Brody’s wife in Jaws and any 70s gal worth her weight in platform boots looked so casual chic in.
I thought about donning a pair of oversized sunglasses as well, but I resisted the urge to go full-on 70s and wore my new round Superdrug tortoiseshell sunglasses* instead (yes, Superdrug do prescription glasses #woop)! I love the pattern and the lush matt finish of this pair.
Although they’re handily available as prescription sunglasses, I went for standard lenses as I’m long-sighted and can’t focus on anything close-up. But I can’t walk about in my prescription glasses without going boss-eyed so sunnies stay plain for me (for now at least).
This post is a day late I’m afraid, but that might just be something that happens now and then round here: family commitments are high on the priority list right now and this was one of those weeks. I’ll be publishing my Review of the Year post on Friday (I mashed the first two-thirds of the year together into one post because we all know how the first third went, don’t we…) and it’ll explain what’s going on home-wise and family-wise.
I’m lucky and thankful to be self-employed and that I can be there when needed (almost) at the drop of a hat.
Are you enjoying/have you enjoyed the last hurrahs of summer or are you still having a heatwave where you live? What are you looking forward to wearing come the new season? Comment below…
Stay safe, XOXO

I’ll join the chorus and say that this outfit is really great. Relaxed and chic. I especially love how you remix pieces and take inspiration from everywhere. Thanks also for including the previous ways you’ve worn boyfriend jeans. I have a pair in my drawer that I haven’t worn in a while but now is the perfect time to pull them out. I think I’ll copy the elements of your look minus the heels as lately I just haven’t been feeling them.
Have I mentioned how happy I am you’re posting outfits again?
Author
Oooh definitely pull them out, Sue – if the fact that mine are at least 16 years old it goes to prove how other styles have come and gone in that time…!
Thank you, and I’m so glad you’re enjoying the regular outfit posts again 😀
I love a good pair of boyfriend jeans and the older the better. That’s why I find many of my jeans at thrift stores. They’ve already got the worn in factor and I can usually find ones that fit better. This is a great look, Catherine and right up my alley, as I grew up in the 70’s. Have a great weekend! – Amy
Author
I love the fact that mine are worn in too, Amy – I sometimes wonder how much darker they were when I first got them! thank you x
Hi Catherine
I loved the comparison of your jeans to the teen actress! I am sure it was fun to put them on and wear. Something about jeans that are worn in and a bit soft. They look great with the olive and then the addition of the 70s looking scarf. I love the combo of olive and orange. I hope to combine other colors with olive this season as well. Been enjoying cool weather here in the South.

Hehe thanks Jess! 😉 Olive and orange is a gorgeous combo, isn’t it… thank you hon! xx
Well done you on getting into those jeans again! I love this outfit and your choice of colours look even more gorgeous in the sun-glow.
Author
Thanks Erika – think that was the last of the sun we’ll see for a while!
Oh, yay! You got your jeans on and repaired–there’s nothing like a good pair of boyfriends. Your comparison to Millie Bobbie Brown is precious! I love the 70s vibe and the *orange*. P.S. Bless you on your large font!
Author
Glad you’re liking the large font, Kimberly – it helps me as well!!! Thank you my lovely x
Wow you are looking amazing. What a wonderful feeling to be able to get back into your favourite things. I have many items I so want to wear again, but its getting motivated. But seeing your post today has given me, inspiration. Thank you, just loving that look.
Author
Aww Mathilda thank you – and yes, I know EXACTLY how hard it is to find that motivation to get started, especially when nothing you try seems to work. But there’s a post in the pipeline about all the things I did differently that finally made a difference, hope it helps! thank you xx
September is the warmest month here in Southern California so the heat wave is on! I’m loving your 70s look! The scarf and sandals really pop! SO cute.
xx Darlene
Author
Thanks Darlene – think we need some of your SoCal sun…!!
Those jeans are so good on you! Glad the zipper is fixed and you can wear them again!
Author
Me too, Laura – it was so easy to fix them, I should have done it sooner!! thank you xo
Looking fabulous in those slouchy jeans. There’s nothing better than the perfect pair – I love it when they mould to your body and that scarf finishes the look perfectly. Thank you for hosting Catherine. xx
Author
Thanks so much Alison – I’d definitely class these as the perfect pair (hence why I still wear them after so long)!
What is better than the perfect pair of jeans? I’d replace a zipper a dozen times if it meant I could still wear them. Thigh blowout is the usual cause of death for mine…I am inspired to try the scarf trick (with strategically-placed bobby pins). Mucho thanks for the link-up!
Author
I had to put pins in it in the end, Mary Katherine, as the damn thing kept slipping off my head!! 😀
Thank you xoxo
Someone like me who dresses very same each day – it’s a real delight to see how to wear one garment different ways – not just changing another piece but a whole look. Appreciate this.
Author
Glad you like that feature, Ratnamurti! thank you my lovely x
Love your jeans, this is my favourite style of jeans. Love how you styled them 🙂 Thanks for hosting.
Author
Mine too, Claire!! thank you hon xo
You look absolutely fabulous, Catherine! I do love a good pair of boyfriend jeans – even better when they’re that old! I keep thinking about trying to wear a head scarf but haven’t got round to it yet. Not sure what that will look like on me though lol
Hugs

They’re still my best ones, Suzy – not found a better pair yet…! thank you xx
So I’m showing this Friday my only jeans and thought they were old. About 6 years old. That you still can remember how she wore a scarf! Or are you such a fan of Jaws?
Author
We’ve seen the film A LOT, Nancy, and whenever I see a scarf like that I always think back to Mrs Brody wearing it for some reason… I always liked how it looked o her!!
Super cute outfit! I really love how your sandals match the scarf. And congrats on getting to wear these well-loved jeans again.

Thank you Michelle – it helps to have so many orange accessories, everything matches lol 😉
Love love love the outfit!!! This summer I got a pair of sandals in the exact same colour but different style, I call it semi-granny heel
We are still very, very hot in Arizona, like sandals, shorts and sleeveless tees hot. As every year, unfortunately, this has been w hottest year recorded. Usually by now we’ll be out of the 100s (Fahrenheit).
Also since I have a fracture on my left foot I can’t wear anything but shorts and dresses so I am kind of fine with the weather.
I am looking forward for our two weeks of Autumn!!!
Author
Oh gosh I can’t even imagine temps in the 100s, Pilar?!! It’s wet and freezing here! thank you lovely, hope you’re on the mend… xx
I adore this outfit Catherine, not only is it an homage to my favourite era the 70’s but your jeans are literally vintage x Catherine! Brava Bella xx
Author
thanks MT – I think you’ve inspired me more than a little with your expert scarf-styling skills!!
Catherine, these jeans are really great! I love the wash and the fading on them. I think that is what draws me to denim most when they have a cool shading and fading going on. And this outfit is just adorable. I love the head scarf! I need to give it a try like this with the back just loose. I have tried scarves on my head before but I have an abnormally large noggin and they never seem to work, but I think this way might work! Thanks for the inspiration!
Shelbee
Author
Thank you Shelbee – yes I love how they’ve faded naturally as well (I’m sure they were a lot darker when I got them). Plus kudos for your use of the word “noggin”, lol 😀 😀
Oh, I hear you. I also have very old jeans and I can’t remember when I bought them. It’s the European (or French?) lived-in feeling. In contrast to the American distressed type of jeans. Same with scarves. There are some in my closet that are over 40 years old. The oldest piece in my closet however is a diamond leopard print cropped jacket that I got from my grandpa when I was in middle school.
Author
Wow you’re grandpa had a diamond leopard print cropped jacket, Nicole?!!! That’s amazing, he must have been sooooo cool!!!!!!!!!!!
Having jeans that old is incredible Catherine!! I’m impressed you fixed the zipper…I just did that too on a pair of jeans because I couldn’t bear to part with them. It’s a good feeling to fix them rather than purge them!!!
XOOX

I’m SO glad I fixed them Jodie – it was very easy, maybe I was subconsciously waiting for the time till I could fit in them again…!
I love this outfit, everything, from head to toe!
Author
aww Lise thank you!
Catherine, I love jeans that dont look tight, yours are superb and congrats on fitting into them again!
I hope all is well with the family?

I like the casual feel of boyfriend jeans, I have also Mom jeans that I love too. Thanks for the linkup today. Jacqui x
Author
Thanks Jacqui – BF is my fave style, though I don’t think I’ve even tried on a pair of mom jeans since about 1989?!! Wondering how they’d look on me now…!
You’re looking great, love the relaxed chic of the boyfriend jeans and headscarf. Thanks for hosting.
