If you’re here to see my dog walking outfit but aren’t being distracted by the dog, I salute you… I’D be distracted by her if it were me reading this!
[Reading time: 3 minutes]
Making her second appearance on the blog, Suki the Blue Greyhound is getting the hang of this posing malarkey. We’ve had her for over two months now and she couldn’t be more settled, happier or loved any more. More about her in a minute, first let’s talk about this dog walking outfit…

After swapping my summer wardrobe for my winter wardrobe a few weeks ago, I realised how much I loved some of my coats (some old, some new) and others… not so much. Not seeing a large portion of my wardrobe for many months always makes it easier for me to decide what can be donated/sold and what will get many more years of wear.
Case in point: this jacquard coat is about five years old, but it’s one of my favourites. A boxy shape and the loveliest blue jacquard/tapestry type fabric, it looks fresh every time I get it out of storage. I love the pattern and it’s roomy enough to layer with knits underneath.
(It’s this week’s 5 Ways to Wear… piece featured below.)
I’ve been wanting to get a grey hoodie for wearing underneath coats for ages – FatFace were kind enough to offer me something from their latest Stylist Edit collection, so I chose this lovely colour block knitted hoodie*. Having a zip front means it’s easy to get on and off and it’s more exciting than a (slightly boring) grey jersey hoodie (scroll down to see it sans coat).
As always in the colder months when out dog walking, I add accessories that aid warmth: a pom pom beanie, gloves (I often wear mittens over my grey fingerless gloves when it’s REALLY cold) and a scarf. Which, on this occasion, I totally forgot.
I got 100 yards up the road when the wind blew its cold sh*t at me and I realised I’d left my scarf on the coat hook at home. (DAMMIT.) However, my long fluffy bob does kinda keep my neck warm, and thank goodness I’d layered with a roll neck jersey top underneath my hoodie…!
I have a few pairs of stylish boots for walking the dog: these ones are the Lotus* ones from last year – sadly no longer available but check out their AW19 collection for more super comfy mid-calf and knee-high boots. I find velvet skinnies a bit warmer than standard denim (I know I said straight leg jeans are more modern than skinnies but I still keep skinnies for tucking into boots) and the crossbody bag holds the doggy essentials, keys and lip balm.
And as for Suki? She’s a total star. She couldn’t be any more loving or hilarious, her greyhound traits are in full force now she’s super settled and really knows we’re her doggy parents. Adopting this gorgeous girl has been SUCH a great healer for us after losing Riley – she’s like him in many ways (those typical traits being the reason why we went for another sighthound), but also totally different in many ways which is perfect.
Suki is her own ‘person’ – plus she looks SO good in red. No one ever comments on MY outfits when we’re out walking, but goodness she gets All The Compliments from everyone when we go places…!!
Any good tips for walking-the-dog outfits? Do you have a favourite coat that seems fresh year after year? Comment below…!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up!
This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

I was very sorry to hear about the loss of Riley, it’s wonderful you found the strength to give Suki a new home, and that she is helping you heal. She is absolutely gorgeous. My Mom had a greyhound years ago and I still miss the “hugs”/I mean “leans”, they are such uniquely gentle, sweet and as you say goofy dogs. She looks a stunner in her winter coat! And your coat is lovely too, I admit I shy away from print coats but they make such a nice statement piece.
Like Laurie, I too look a mess when I’m walking the dogs, especially this time of year! Your outfit is lovely and Suki looks gorgeous. I’ve just found you on Instagram and was very sorry to read about Riley.

Thank you so much Polly – yes it’s been a very hard year losing Riley but Suki has done so much to mend our broken hearts xx
I do like that coat on you, it’s a really lovely fabric – almost a bit like Welsh tapestry, but in a colour combination that you wouldn’t usually see in it.
It’s definitely wrap-up-warm weather, I have been layering lightweight thermals under everything so that I don’t have to get to chunky with the other layers.
Author
It IS a bit like Welsh tapestry, I know just what you mean Porcelina! thank you x
I love her ears!! You can see she is on FULL ALERT when she is out, ready to spring into action if needed. What a gorgeous hound Suki is.
Your outfit is fab; I remember that coat, and it is superb with a zippie hoodie underneath it. I love seeing all the ways you’ve worn it before. xxx
Author
OMG she most definitely is on full alert the whole time… ready to pounce on any poor unsuspecting squirrel or cat 😉
Thanks Lisa – the coat comes out year on year and I never get sick of it! x
After just returning from a very long and chilly walk with the dog I could have made good use of your warm items Catherine. Looks beautiful on you. And many more joyful moments with the latest addition to the family. xo Sabina
Author
Aww thanks so much, Sabina! x
I am so happy for you guys to have found Suki and for her to be with the two of you! Love, Lieske
Author
She’s an absolute joy, Lieske! Thank you 😀
Yes, of COURSE, love all you are wearing, but…so sorry my dear, the doggie takes the show, she is gorgeous and such a perfect model! XOXO
Author
Hehe no apology needed, Rona – she regularly “prevents” me from getting anything done because she just lies there being gorgeous… I just want to give her all the attention in the world!! Thank you x
I LOVE that coat! And yes, your dog is gorgeous. 🙂
Author
Thanks so much, Bethanne x
It’s fab to see that coat again Catherine!
I’m completely obsessed by re-wearers and re-stylers…. so much more inspiring than those BORING “Zara Haul” posts.
As for your gorgeous girl…. well, you can image how I feel about her AND Jake was taking an interest too.
They say dogs can’t see TV or computer screens which is obviously rubbish isn’t it?
(He might be a little bit in love ;o)

Oh I’m so glad you like the rewearing feature, Samantha… I have enough of a back catalogue to do it over and over! Thank you.
And I can imagine Suki would rather love Jake too, they’d make a handsome couple!!!!!! 😉
Hello, two lovelies, you look great out for your walk. 🙂
Author
Aww Linda thank you x
Suki looks adorable in her walking outfit–and so do you! I’m so glad to hear she’s all settled in her new home. Our shelter adoptees were the same and they are such a joy!
xx Darlene
Author
That’s so good to hear they’re loving their new life too, Darlene! Thank you hon x
Well, much as I love every bit of your dog-walking outfit – and I DO – your companion is quite the eye-catcher! Beautiful hound and so fortunate to have found such a loving home. She’s modelling an excellent coat with that lovely long neck snuggled up! Anyway…good tip on the velvet jeans as denim really isn’t exactly cosy for winter walking!
Author
Thank you lovely Erika! Yes the velvet makes a surprising difference, I can thoroughly recommend x
Suki is Robin to your Batman Catherine, you two look amazing together and isn’t she the most stylish dog in the blogosphere!
Perhaps Suki will have her own blog one day? She definitely has the posing down pat
Author
Hehe she could also be Emma Peel to my John Steed…!! Thanks lovely MT x
Suki is a charming dog. I love your coat and the complete outfit.

aww Debbie thank you x
Fabulous coat and outfit, and a beautiful dog.
Author
thank you Amy!
No tips at all from me. You look so much better than I do walking the dog. I have my big parka coat which you can “sponge down” for dealing with our dog jumping up against me.
I am so glad you got a new dog. You are going through exactly the same process we went through aat the beginning of the year when Charlie died and we got Watson. You never forget your first dog or stop loving it but you need the love and routine of a dog. Hence the new one. Suki is beautiful. No wonder she gets all the compliments haha.
Greetje
Author
I don’t *always* look this put together when walking the dog, Greetje… I look as much of mess as most other walkers on most days – at the weekend I just have a little bit more time to try and not look like a bag lady!! LOL
And thank you – it’s been a hard year for both of us losing our beloved doggies, hasn’t it? Suki definitely has certain traits that Riley had but she’s still very much has her own personality, she makes us laugh every day just like Riley did. Hope things are going well for you both with Watson x
Suki is so adorable! And I appreciate your dog-walking outfit—I usually walk my pup in my pajamas 🙂
Cheryl Shops
Author
Aww thanks Cheryl – I do sometimes just chuck a big parka jacket over my onesie, so I’m not always so coordinated 😉
I know I should be commenting on your awesome coat but hello puppy power. What a stunning dog. And quite the budding model and fashionista
Author
Hehe you couldn’t resist, Linda!! Thank you my sweet x
The coat looks fabulous on you! Love that print!

Lovely coat! I can see why it’s one of your favorites. I also love the hoodie! And Suki is beautiful!

Aww thanks lovely Michelle x
I will say Suki is very stylish and a star! I do love your jacket and I like how you shared different ways to wear it. It is definitely a keeper.
Author
Thank you Mireille, both the coat and the doggo are keepers, lol! 😉 x
Hounds are just the best. Greyhounds are big sooks. I’m now on my 5th and 6th whippets (brother and sister) first time for puppies in a long time (all others have been rehomed dogs) they bring such joy. So love their personality too.
Author
I couldn’t agree with you more, Imogen – sighthounds are just the best, so funny and soooo loving. Suki brings a lot of joy into our lives…!
Suki looks great in that coat and poses so well, no wonder she draws a lot of attention. Our Cretan Hound doesn’t do coats, they get in the way of snorkeling in the woods. So I won’t be walking out with a stylish dog. I love your coat, it’s cheerful and timeless and suits you very much.
Author
She really laps up the attention, Mona!! #eyeroll And she still manages the snorkelling with the coat on… greyhounds have almost no hair on their bellies, she’s practically bald underneath so really feels the cold. Thank you for the lovely comment – I wasn’t sure what a Cretan Hound was so looked it up… what a beautiful doggo!! Gorgeous! x
Yes, the coat’s very nice and all (good point about boxy shapes with knitwear underneath), but I am TOTALLY distracted by the gorgeous Suki, AND the look of total happiness on your face. Yes, she’s rocking red, and I know she’s healed so much of your pain and grief. Looks like you’re back on the right foot all around in time for the holidays – so glad.
Author
Hehe I knew she’d distract most people, Mary Katherine! 😉 Thank you so much, yes she’s done so much to bring light back into our lives x
Love Suki’s layered look!
Is that a collar a coat and a harness!?
My dogs refuse to go out in a collar – only a harness will do for them, but then your dog’s beautiful long legs means she can wear anything and look fab right?
A
Xxxx
Author
Yes, a collar, coat and harness! Coat because she’s almost bald underneath (normal for greyhounds), a harness because she “plants” a lot on one spot and it’s the only way to get her to move (it has a handle on top so helps with trying to shift her from where she’s cemented her feet into the ground) and the collar for the ID tag. It takes us ages to get out the door for a walk, lol!!
Love this blue jacquard coat and the way you have styled it. plus, it’s definitely time for a woolly hats. Yours is fab. Suki looks very smart in her coat. Love the pics of her.

Thank you so much lovely Alison! x
I wished I looked this good when walking the dogs! I just look like an unruly mess. Something to work on I guess! I love Suki’s coat too xx
Author
Only at the weekends so I look this put together, Laurie – normally I’m a hot mess in the week when it’s just me and Suki!! 😉
Thank you my lovely x
Catherine, this is such a great coat for so many different stylings. And your dog walking outfit is perfect. I swear by fingerless gloves all winter long! I wear them in the house and to bed because my hands are always freezing. I do have to admit that I was distracted by Suki in this post. She is an absolutely stunning dog!
Shelbee
Author
Thank you Shelbee! I often wear fingerless gloves for typing, though our new house is a new build and sooooo much warmer than our previous, 170-year-old house… gloves are not needed nearly as often!
