I think wearing my bright orange brogues last week put me in a red/orange frame of mind this weekend.
[Reading time: 2 minutes]
And as a result, for this week’s #iwillwearwhatilike, I bring you A LOT of orange, a fair amount of red, some snakeskin print and a bit of “what was I thinking?” green.

To explain…
I think this season my new obsession is with boldly-coloured trouser suits. I already have a patterned pyjama trouser suit, an emerald green trouser suit and a pale pink trouser suit. It seemed only natural that in my orange-obsessed world I move onto an orange trouser suit, don’t you think?
(I also have a red corduroy trouser suit, the blazer of which I’m wearing here. I bought it last year and could only get my usual size in the trousers – I couldn’t fit in them at the time so “put them away” till I’d got fitter. Now I’ve gone down a dress size and want to wear them, I can’t find them, can I?! The hunt continues…)

What I’ll be adding to my collection very soon is an orange trouser suit, but I only have half of it so far. I was gifted the trousers* by JD Williams but they couldn’t get me the blazer, so I ordered it myself on a lead time of several weeks. Hopefully I’ll have it in time for Christmas.
In the meantime, I created an orange suit of sorts but decided to add red. Luckily orange is my no.1 favourite colour so it wasn’t hard to colour match a sweater to the orange trousers*, then for some serious warm-colour punch I added the red cord blazer and my old red leather tote.
Accessories: Lots of gold jewellery (the best colour choice for red and orange). Snakeskin print boots that I’ve worn loads – they are this week’s “5 ways to wear” choice (scroll down to see more outfits that feature the boots).
And finally – a green headband. I think I was having a funny five minutes, because I actually meant to wear the red headband I have. I tried different colour headbands with this outfit, decided on red, and somehow the green one stayed on my head. I didn’t even notice in the hallway mirror before we left the house. It’s not really a biggie but it just ANNOYS me that I wore the wrong one…!
Are you into the whole ‘one bold colour’ trouser suit thing? Have I convinced you to try two bold colours together? Tell me in the comments…!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up!
This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Wow! You look Fabulous in this orange outfit. I am crazy about this orange combination.
Author
Thanks Jo – it goes without saying I’m crazy about orange too…! 😉
I’m going to be honest here and say that if I saw someone wearing this in the street, I’d probably do a double-take. However, I’m really, really coming round to it! As a youngster, I always hated red and orange, and red and pink together but these days I’m starting to see it in a new light! I think you look fab and I did chuckle with your comments about wearing the wrong headband!!
Hugs

Hehe I think you can guess that I love red and pink too, Suzy…!! Thanks hon x
Aren’t these just the best colours together! I had orange and pink in a stripy two piece twenty odd years ago – it was from Wallis I think. Nice one Catherine. Jacqui x
Author
Well orange and pink just so happen to be my blog colours, Jacqui – so that two piece sounds AMAZING!! Thanks sweetie x
This red and orange outfit is INTENSE, Catherine…but in the best possible way. WOW!! I am always in awe of the way you carry off eye-popping colour combos, and this pseudo-suit might just be my favourite yet! Those snake patterned boots are the perfect pick for complimenting (not competing with) all that colour; and as far as your “accidental” choice of a green headband goes? I see no accident here…just a genius finishing touch!! XO Monika
Author
Aww thanks lovely Monika – who *doesn’t* want to see all this orange and red, eh…?!! hehe 😉
When I was younger, I had a skirt that was bright pink on top with bright orange pleats on the bottom. This outfit reminds me of that skirt, which I loved (and wonder whatever happened to it)!

Wowsers that skirt sounds incredible, Cheryl – my kind outfit (as my blog colours attest)!! x
you look amazing! You totally rock this outfit!
Author
aww thanks Sherilyn x
Catherine if ever an outfit had your name on it this would be it. You look absolutely gorgeous!
I love these glorious brights together but the closest I get to wearing them is on the ski slopes. For some reason I have no fear of all reds, oranges and hot pinks in one outfit whooshing down a white mountain LOL!

At least you’ll be seen when you’re zooming towards people, MT!! lol 😀
Thank you my lovely x
Love these bold colors, what a beautiful corduroy jacket and loving the way you layered the necklaces!

you are just a natural vintage beauty! i always feel sad when our stateside Halloween and Thanksgiving are over…it feels compulsory to put away the orange!…but you give me hope to wear it in the winter! loving it paired with snakeskin booties!
Author
Aww bless you Eva, thank you!! I never need an excuse to wear orange, I wear it ALL year round 😉
This color combination is so beautiful!!

thank you lovely Elise x
I like the green head band with this outfit. I’m sure the red one would be pretty too, but this is a great look. Orange is one of my favorite colors too. I wouldn’t have thought of pairing it with red (I always like to pair red with dark colors – navy or black), but I may have to reconsider. What a fun, vibrant outfit!

Seems like it was a happy accident, Michelle – but OH! how I preferred the red one I had originally chosen! Thank you so much 🙂
The green headband is perfect! As it’s the complementary colour to red it really pops. I think that this ‘mistake’ was completely fortuitous and looks amazing.
Author
Oh Kathy thank you so much 😉 xx
You are a ray of sunshine in this fall/winter season. I love seeing your outfit pairings!
Author
Aww thank you Mireille!! x
Red and Orange!
A delight for the eyes :o)
I love your little details… the snakey boots, the headband, that texture in the jacket.
Winning look!!

What a fun outfit. I really like that red cord blazer. The blazer will be great for casual holiday events.
Author
Thanks Julie – yes I’m so glad I got it, just need to wear it more often! x
Oh, my style lovin’ sister! I must emulate this look! I love, love, love orange and red together–I don’t own enough red! And…was on the fence about getting snakeskin booties…!
Author
Thanks Kimberly – hopefully you’re not on the fence anymore… being that neutral brown colour they go with just about everything!!
loving the jacket. I want one! xx
Author
thanks Laurie – I think the red would really suit you…!
You look so vibrant Catherine and I absolutely love your hair like this. I’m laughing at you for not realising you had a green headband on!!!! Your mind must have been on other things! And, wow. Those boots xxxx
Author
Hehe thanks Liz – as you would say, I’m such a dufus!! 😀
Catherine, this outfit seriously just gave me life today! I love these colors together and the green headband worked out beautifully even if it was by accident. I never would have thought to pair these colors together mostly because I don’t wear much orange, but now I kind of want some orange to pair with red! Brilliant, my friend.
