Can Taking Supplements Improve the Appearance of Wrinkles?

Can Taking Specialised Supplements Improve Your Skin's Fine Lines and Wrinkles? A Seven Seas Perfect7 Renewal Advanced Review | Not Dressed As Lamb
Work with me

I’ve always been a supplements-taking kind of girl. There are a few that I’ve sworn by over the years for my health. But could a supplement – rather than a cream – improve the appearance of your SKIN?

This is the question I asked myself as I embarked on collaborating with Seven Seas, a supplements brand that I’ve worked with several times over the past few years (and have huge faith in).

They asked me to trial Perfect7® Renewal Advanced, their latest product “scientifically proven to claim to reduce the appearance of wrinkles in 60 days”.

It’s a pretty big claim: 60 days? Reduce the appearance of wrinkles?

For starters, it’s the first product of its kind in the UK where the ingredients are taken orally rather than topically. Yes, we’re all used to slathering on serums and wrinkle creams in an attempt to improve our skin’s elasticity and fine lines, but taking a supplement to help with that? It’s definitely intriguing.

Think of all the things that create huge problems for our skin: Pollution. Sun exposure. Light from tablets and laptops. Lack of sleep. Excessively harsh skin products. Stress. Dehydration (you get my drift). There are SO many things that stop our skin looking lush and healthy that it’s no wonder we want (need?) products to make our skin look its best – and improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles is pretty high up on most women’s wish list. Personally, my skin could do with some help as it suffers from the effects of most of the evil things I mentioned.

I often get compliments on my skin when I post pictures of myself (for which I am very grateful!), but I’m rarely without makeup or good lighting. The light in a car selfie does wonders for trimming away the years, believe me.

I have also been hearing some pretty positive feedback about this product, so as far as a 60-day trial for my 46-year-old face goes, I am IN. Let’s look at what this entails and what the tablet supplements contain…

[Please note this post was written during the trial which has now ended.]

What the supplements contain (AKA The Science Bit)

Basically Seven Seas have been working hard to come up with a product that works to reduce the appearance of wrinkles; in other words, it’s a product ideally suited for midlife (and older) women. Smooth, hydrated (meaning healthy-looking) skin is a goal I should imagine that MOST women strive for. Thank you, Seven Seas, for aiming to meet this need.

The key ingredient in Perfect7® Renewal Advanced is Ceramosides™, a natural source of ceramides (it’s the first UK beauty supplement of its kind to contain this ingredient). Ceramides are lipids (organic compounds) that help form the skin’s barrier and help it retain moisture in that barrier – in other words, improving the skin’s ability to protect it against some of those evils I mentioned. By coming up with a product that supplements the skin’s natural levels of ceramides, Seven Seas claim that Perfect7® Renewal Advanced will help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Seven Seas have been working with PHD skin scientist and skin expert, Dr Helen Taylor. She says this about ceramides:

RELATED  Midlife: It's All a Bit Shit, Isn't It? (Life Lately...)

“Ceramides are molecules that occur naturally in our skin and make up 50% of the skin’s moisture barrier – but from the age of 20 our levels start to drop 10-15% per decade. Perfect7® Renewal’s innovative ceramosides™ technology works from the inside out, for better looking, moisturised skin from within.”

The Perfect7® Renewal Advanced pack contains three different supplements that you simply take one each of once a day:

  1. A Ceramosides™ capsule
  2. A comprehensive multivitamin and mineral tablet to support overall health and well-being
  3. A Seven Seas® Omega-3 capsule with DHA to provide additional health benefits

Taking the product for 60 days

This is the easy bit. You take the three pills (which all look totally different from one another so there’s no mixing them up or taking the same one twice) once a day. I simply chose a time when I knew I wouldn’t forget to take them, so I keep them on my bedside table and take them before bed each night.

So far I haven’t missed a day (fingers crossed that won’t change)… it’s so easy. Incorporating them into your routine is the way to go, and as I keep my night creams next to my bed I always see the supplements and don’t forget them.

What to expect once my 60-day trial is up

There will be a part two of this blog post where I’ll talk results. I’ll cover what leading facialist, skincare clinic owner and author Abigail James’s role was in the development of this product, as well as more about Dr Helen Taylor (she’s the current topic specialist on skin for the British Occupational Hygiene Society Skin Topic Group (BOHS) and a member of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene).

And last but not least, I’ll share with you the key part I’m sure you’ll want to read about: my results after the 60 days, i.e. how the product has visually worked. I’ve been taking the supplements for about 30 days [at the time of writing] but already I have seen one SIGNIFICANT change that has really impressed me which I will share with you in the next blog post (yes, I know I’m a tease).

Seven Seas say that Perfect7® Renewal Advanced is about “beautiful-looking skin from within”. Seeing as lush, natural skin is one of the things I’m constantly striving for in life I say, Yes please…!
