Before I stepped out the house in this outfit, it was at that (super) casual stage, not yet smart casual:
– it only took two items to take it up that one level smarter than its initial “slobbing around the house” vibe. This was a weekend outfit comprising of simply a band t-shirt (more on that in a minute) and baggy chinos. Nothing exciting, but to step out the house for something other than dog walking I needed to make it at least a LITTLE smarter – smart casual, in other words. So all I added was the Prince of Wales check blazer (last seen here) and the pointed two-tone flats which I’ve had forever, and voilà – smart casual.
Finally – accessories. Sunglasses? Check. Studded cross body bag? Check. Brushed hair? Nearly forgot, but check…!
Those of you who’ve followed me for a while may know that I was a serious Duranie back in the day (anyone remember me wearing my Duran Duran tour t-shirt from when I was 11 last year?), and this graphic t-shirt of the Rio album cover has finally made an appearance on the blog. I’ve worn it several times since Keith bought it for me for Christmas, but I’ve had to cover it up with layers of knitwear and coats until now.
Although it would make sense that I have a Rio album cover tee because I have a Seven and the Ragged Tiger t-shirt already and needed to prove my undying loyalty to my Eighties obsession, the real reason I have it is completely different…!
SHOP THE LOOK:
In Thor: Ragnarak (or Thor: Fraggle Rock as I can’t help saying it after Michelle Tyler called it that), Bruce Banner has to borrow Tony Stark’s clothes and ends up wearing a Rio album cover t-shirt under a jacket. I came out of the cinema saying I NEED THAT T-SHIRT… and low and behold, Keith indulges me at Christmas with one of my own. Bless that boy 😉

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Monday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
Linking up etiquette…
CLICK HERE to read the rules of linking up (and to grab the #iwillwearwhatilike button). Basically it’s just good manners to link back to here – to leave a comment is even nicer!

I’m quite partial to a band T-shirt – especially AC/DC. I have a Sex Pistols Never Mind the B@llock$ one too…definitely can’t wear that on the school run!

The first time on your blog and you’re wearing a Duran Duran tee! It must be kismet. From one Duranie to another, love the look and coming back for MORE!
I’ve been toying with a similar bit of styling with a new graphic tee and now I definitely will after seeing this on you Catherine. The shoes clinch the deal with me as I just love the two tone effect. Thanks again for hosting another link up party and have a lovely week!
Anna x
Oh I was a major Duran Duran fan back then. Apart from loving Spandau Ballet and Abba etc etc :)))
Thats a really cool look Catherine. Love the blazer, too. Thanks for the link-up. xo Sabina
Is it fair to say that I think this is the coolest way to style a blazer?? I love this!
This is a great example of classing up a look. The T looks great with the blazer. Thanks for the linkup!
Absolutely! And I do wear: The Clash, Bruce Springsteen and David Bowie (heavy sigh – sadly missed)…..
Effortless smart casual, just as it should be. Shame it’s such a struggle for me! Hugs, x.
It does look really smart, the flats are especially nice (look like heels a bit at first). Jackets are fab, I have been trying to wear them more instead of cardis to smarten up. Thanks for hosting! X

Good luck with checking out Redbubble Ashley – you’ll be there for HOURS, I guarantee it…!! 😉
I pretty much wear a graphic tee and a pair of sneakers on the daily! Ha! It’s my uniform–literally.
I’m considering a re-brand since that’s all I wear. Maybe The Sneaker Lady? What do you think?!
Haha. I love your Nagel tee–he was a favorite artist of mine during my high school years.
Love, Ann from Kremb de la Kremb

I think that’s mostly the sort of daily outfit I wear too Ann (though the t-shirts always get covered up in the colder weather)!! And yes – Nagel was the best… all those 80s posters were AMAZING 😀
Most bloggers rebrand these days to change their blog name to their actual name – as you already have your name in your blog name maybe you should keep it? If your blog name was very common (starting with “style” or “fashion” for example) I’d say definitely change it… however rebranding is a massive upheaval, it affects your SEO, domain authority and visibility and takes a while for your blog to recover and get back to where it was before the rebrand. So it’s only worth it if your blog name is really detrimental to your brand and the benefits of a new name outweigh the disadvantages that come with changing everything… personally I don’t think it’s worth it (though The Sneaker Lady IS a cute name)!!
I’m a big fan of graphic tees, love yours and your doggy! Thank you for the link up Catherine.

Oh my goodness, my sister had that Duran Duran album when we were little and wouldn’t let me play it—I was so jealous! Thankfully we share now. 🙂 Love how you’ve styled your tee with the boyfriend blazer!

I love the way you’ve styled a band t-shirt – it looks so perfect on you with the jacket. I still wear my Nirvana t-shirt and hoody!
Thank you for hosting 🙂

Oh wow if your Nirvana items are originals I wonder if they’re worth a bit, Helen..?! thanks hon x
I still wear my Siouxie and the Banshees tee! Oh, music in the 80 s was fabulous!
Author
Oh wow I’d love a SATB t-shirt, Nancy!! That’s sooooooo cool (and yes I agree, it was) 😀
Aaaaah, you already know mine! I still wear my AC/DC t-shirts, but they aren’t old ones. Those ones I bought back in the day were far too big because they only made them for boys who drunk too much beer. Luckily now we’ve been allowed into this most male of mysteries, meaning I have a black t-shirt with the band name in silvery glittery letters (not real glitter!). In fact, it’s in the link-up for this week.
Love the Duran Duran t-shirt! And yes, I can admit I always liked them now since I don’t have to worry what my “cool” punk friends think (they all liked them too ). X
Author
Haha yes I do remember your AC/DC obsession Emerald – as strong as my DD one!! 😉
This is such a great way to style a graphic tee.

Thanks Ivana!

Pleasure, Sarah! You absolutely CAN’T go wrong with Bowie, can you…?!

Thanks so much Lisa, and to you! x
I liked Duran, but my heart was and still is with U2. Which has got me into thinking about searching for a vintage U2 T-shirt! I’m literally going to start looking now! Have a great week xx
Author
Laurie you’re pretty much guaranteed to find it at Redbubble (see the link to my t-shirt) – their range is infinite…!
That tee shirt OBVIOUSLY needed to be in your collection! Well done to Keith for finding it. I love how you’ve styled it here, and I love your furry accessory, Riley! He tones very well with the tee 🙂
Author
The furry accessory is the best accessory I have, Lisa…!! 😉
I laughed when I saw your post, Catherine. Because my post is on the same thing… graphic tees. I’ve been searching for just the right one for a bit. Ha. Great minds? Love the idea of wearing the tee with a patterned jacket.

Great minds are ALWAYS thinking of graphic tees, Sue…!! heehee x
