The biggest blogger event I’ve been to yet – Blogtacular – was held on Saturday in London. After sorting your tickets and travel, the biggest dilemma for attending events is always deciding what to wear.
As a fashion blogger you tend to put yourself under a bit more pressure: After all, you are your brand so your image makes all the difference to being confident enough to tell people you blog about your personal style…!
That said, I’m fully aware that what I’m wearing really isn’t the most important thing. I have to go for comfort and practicality first, as when I’m travelling on tubes and trains and walking around I can’t be coping with heels or too-tight jeans. This outfit started with the pointed flats: They’re supremely comfortable but also smart and on-trend (block heels and two-tone caps). They’re one of the few pairs of flats that I’m happy wearing with a skirt – I usually insist on heels but not if I’m going to an all-day event.
Once I’d decided to go with a skirt (I wear them so rarely I was determined to get my legs out for a change) the Adidas t-shirt followed to tone down the super-girly skirt and ladylike flats. Regular readers may know I’m fond of a bit of masculine/feminine or casual/smart contrast in my outfits – it’s a good tip for never feeling over or underdressed… you’ve covered every eventuality.
If you’re going to a blogger event and wondering what to wear, here are two really good tips for you that have worked every time for me:
- Wear one statement piece – either a bag (like my novelty camera bag), hair accessory, stunning dress, anything. It will give people a reason to come up to you and say, “I love your bag/dress/flower crown” – a great reason to introduce yourself to each other and start chatting.
- Instagram and tweet your outfit before you set off so that others know exactly what you look like. Add something like “Come and say hello if you spot me” – don’t forget the event’s hashtag!
I did both of these things and had a lot of bloggers approach me for exactly those reasons on Saturday. It’s lovely to be spotted and again you’ll make a ton of new friends (always have business cards at the ready to swap).
What are your top tips for what to wear to a blogger event? What have you found to be a conversation starter or just plain practical – do let me know!
P.S. You might like how I styled the same Adidas t-shirt with trousers last autumn!
T-shirt: Zalando | Skirt: Asos | Shoes: c/o Daniel Footwear | Bag: Accessorize | Sunglasses: c/o Lulus | Bracelets: New Look | Watch: Asos | Nails: Butter London Fiver
I had to click through from your favorite summer outfits post! This outfit is not something I would put together naturally, but I really like it! You always remind me that I should be a bit more adventurous… ๐
Found it! Yes it's a gorgeous look… I might have to invest in a couple of midi skirts, they're actually really cute. I particularly love that it's a '1972' tee as that was when my hubby was born ๐

Gorgeous outfit. Really stunning.
Jan thank you – so glad you like it! x
not just the perfect outfit but the perfect statement piece for a blog conference. I always go with a great necklace, my floral from Yosa usually
OMG Yosa's necklace's are amazing, Linda!! You'd definitely stand out in one of their pieces :))
Thank you sweetie x
I've yet to participate in a blogger event, dearest Catherine…it sounds like sooo much fun!! Your "camera" bag is freakin' adorable; I can just imagine how well it works as a conversation-starter whenever you wear it!! I think my go-to piece would be my leather beanie…everyone always asks me were I got it!! XOXO

It really works, Monika – it really is just a great way to get people to come up and say something to you! Keep your beanie for when you go to your first event! Thank you my lovely x
Sound advice!!! Thanks. My next blogger event is more of a get-together with lots of lunches, dinner and vintage shopping so I am sure we will all get to know each other. There will be about 20 bloggers (in Vancouver).
Greetje
Oh Greetje you'll have a fabulous time – lucky you to be going! Hopefully we'll meet at an event soon, fingers crossed! x
we are still contemplating on going to England for holiday. Seems to be debating that for years now.
I love this outfit SO. MUCH. The skirt looks fab on you, and I love the contrast with the sporty tshirt ๐ xx

Aww Katy thank you!! I'm kinda thinking that a graphic tee/midi skirt combo is one of my favourite outfits… You basically can't go wrong!
I love this look Catherine and the light hitting your hair in the pic. The handbag is precious! I am going to a blogging event, love the tips!

Jess you'll love it – though I think with your amazing hair you won't have any problems being spotted!! Thank you sweetie so much x
I love the toned down look of this outfit with the skirt and pointy flats ๐ and I agree that it's important to be more comfy when travelling. I hope I can go to this event at some point myself!

Blogtacular was absolutely brilliant, Yasmin – you'd love it! I know it's a lot of expense but it's really worth it ๐
Thank you my lovely xx
Catherine this outfit is all-sorts of fabulousness! I love FINALLY hearing another fashion blogger prioritize comfort and practicality over fashion — I am honestly shocked at some of the uncomfortable and impractical things bloggers wear to events. This is the perfect look — a combination of your personality and comes off completely as a blogger "on-duty". Love love that camera bag too!
Sed Bona
Oh gosh I couldn't possibly last a whole day of travelling and networking in heels, Ashley!! Generally I see much more casual looks at events… maybe it's a UK thing?! So glad you liked it – the bag would be perfect for you, too, hehe :))
Thanks sweetie xx
I love the way you steered clear of the predictable heels and wore (almost) flats…. a nice touch. I would love to see you style some culottes….I know they are tricky to wear but they are almost midi skirt-like when on and I'm sure you could rock them!
BTW, what tanner/body makeup do you use? or is that real sunkissed skin?? I do remember (vaguely) what the hot round thingimigig in the sky looks like but we have been neglected by it up here in Scotland recently ๐
Sam you're a doll, thank you so much!!
I use two tanning products: Ambre Solaire No Streaks Bronzer dry face & dry body mist on my face and upper body, then Piz Buin Self Tanning Tinted Lotion on my legs (with a mitt). The dry spray just seems to go patchy on my legs but goes on my body perfectly for some weird reason…! Hope that helps ๐
The bag is a joy! I particularly like the texture of the skirt though. That's gorgeous.
