Embracing Florals and Matching Lips to Sunglasses #iwillwearwhatilike

Spring fashion: Blue floral trench coat white trousers black lace-up ghillie shoes oversized 70s sunglasses | Not Dressed As Lamb, over 40 style

Happy Monday – hope you’re having a great day whether you’ve got a bank holiday or not!

I thought it was time to fully embrace some simple, spring-like florals following the madness (and glamour!) that was the UK Blog Awards last week.

I have to say a massive, massive thank you first of all for all the messages of goodwill and congratulations from everyone – I have been absolutely deluged with lovely, lovely comments on the blog and social media, so please bear with me while I reply to them all… I’ve written about what my win means for the over 40 blogging community and did a whole outfit post about (what is now known as) my lucky red gown, so do check those posts out if you haven’t already.

As for today’s outfit: It couldn’t be easier to recreate and shows the power of a great coat, in this case my SS15 trench from Hobbs which I still absolutely love (try this blue floral one if you’re after something similar). It has a honeysuckle pattern and the blue is the prettiest, softest blue ever… Team it with white (a shirt buttoned up to the neck and cropped trousers) and black (lace-up ghillie shoes) and you’ve got yourself something very simple and very spring-like.

Something that looks intentional but I promise you wasn’t is the “matching” sunglasses and lipstick: I’ve not thought to do this on purpose but if you have sunglasses with pink/red/coral tinted lenses, it’s a great trick to match your lip colour to your sunnies. It means you really don’t need much in the way of eye makeup – the sunglasses and lipstick do all the work when it comes to adding colour to your face.As it’s now May and my favourite month, I can’t wait to get my summer wardrobe out and revisit all the “happy” clothes in my wardrobe – though I have to admit it only seems like the other day that I put them all away and got my winter coats out. Where does the time go…?!!

Add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured next week!

HAVE YOU EVER THOUGHT TO MATCH YOUR LIPSTICK TO YOUR SUNGLASSES (OR WILL YOU FROM NOW ON)? TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS!

The #iwillwearwhatilike link up with Not Dressed As Lamb
Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

I totally remember this pretty patterned coat of yours, dearest Catherine; and I agree – it's a "natural" combined with black and white!! And while I don't think I've matched my lipstick to my sunnies, I HAVE been wearing my pink-framed sunglasses more often lately…you know, to go with my hair!! ;D

I see why you love this coat so much Catherine, it's beautiful & so incredibly versatile! Two reasons why it'll never date but you already know that, clever lady 😉
p.s. I want your entire sunglasses collection! There isn't a pair you have that I don't love.

I love your Hobbs coat! I've matched lips to sunnies before, but I have a few red/orange/pink pairs of sunnies, so it isn't too much of a stretch. Your sunnies are fab here! xx

I love how you matched your lipstick with your sunnies. I'm quite boring…I have about 5 sunglasses and most of them are black tinted…and black color lipstick does not complement my olive skin 🙁

Your jacket reads spring! Love it. I've done matching once with blue sunnies and blue lips – not a favourite look but it was fun for a day. I like what you've done here with the matching. Thanks for the linkup.

Such a pretty trench, and I love the colour of those lenses. Very Springy! x

You look really great with the color of your lipstick. It's amazing that soft shades of pink work so well with your skin and hair color. Romantic, but grown-up. Great blend of the look!

Awe, just seen I made your favourite outfit list – many thanks. x I've not seen a patterned trench coat – it's very sweet. Looks great styled like this. x Jacqui
