Winter: it’s dragging, isn’t it?!
February is the month I start REALLY longing for spring and some warmer weather. Instead, it often gets colder – and it’s done exactly that in the UK. Freezing temperatures, Baltic winds and snow (the latter has not yet arrived in the South West, though I think it’s only a matter of time) are all here this week, so wardrobe-wise that means layers to keep out that hideous biting wind.
Layers – and the warmest coat known to mankind. Thankfully I have this crazy-warm, padded parka* with an almightily cosy faux fur hood, that, combined with some woolly accessories, does actually keep me warm…
JUST. (!!)

So when it’s THIS cold (and for me, somewhat depressing), I say this: wear some bold, bright accessories. It’ll do your mood the world of good. If you’re a black coat owner/wearer, that’s fine: just make sure your hat/scarf/gloves combo are not. We’re already coping with a pandemic, the need to stay in and a lack of travel and social events to keep our minds distracted from the sadness and pain that surrounds us. So GO BRIGHT and wear some colour, especially around your face.
Stock up on bright bobble or beanie hats in every colour. Do the same with scarves. And then repeat with gloves. (Try Etsy: support local, often sustainable.) Heck, throw on some chunky earrings like I did for our dog walk.
Stay safe, stay warm. We’ll get through this cold spell. Who knows what March and April will bring? In the UK it can be anything from an Arctic blizzard to a heatwave… we’ve had both in recent years (it’s no surprise that I yearn for the latter)!
What weather are you looking forward to – and do you agree with my wear-bold-accessories-to-brighten-your-mood theory? Tell me in the comments…
Stay safe, XOXO

Thanks Anne – I think I always have them subconsciously in mind, hehe!!
Tons of layers & ALL the bright colors are what get me through winter!
Debbie

They make so much difference to your mood, don’t they Debbie… I just can’t imagine wearing all black during all these drabs months!
It’s funny that just the other day I was thinking I needed some bright winter accessories to get me through the rest of the winter. Whatever it takes, right? And I love the people and orange combo on you, so pretty and cheery!
Thanks for the link-up!

Thank you my lovely xx
Bold and beautiful always works! You look so good! xx
Author
Aww you’re such a sweetheart – thanks Lucy x
I love the gloves, even though I find knitted gloves far too cold in this weather. It has to be ski gloves (and I don’t ski)!
Author
I’ll admit I usually wear thermal mittens over the top of my gloves, Ruth – it’s the BEST combo for keeping my (always always cold) hands warm!
Your soft purple accessories are beautiful!
I hope you are having a great week!

Thanks so much Amber – I’m loving the lilac right now 😀
Accessories can and do make such a huge difference in an outfit.

They do, don’t they Rena?! Imagine being in a black coat, black scarf and black hat at this time of year… I need cheering up, not made to feel worse!! 😉
I’m loving the purple pops! Such a gorgeous shade and you look great in it. Thank you for hosting this link up!

Pleasure, Celyn – and thank you! xoxo
Good advice to brighten up your coat and layers with some COLOR! Color really does lift the mood, especially when it’s cold and dreary! Stay warm, Catherine!

Colour makes soooooo much difference, doesn’t it Darlene?! Thank you x
I am always all about color, but especially when things (the weather / the pandemic / etc) has got you down. I love your bright, happy outfit! Nice to see your adorable pup all dressed up in red too.

Thank you Michelle – Suki always looks good in red we think 😉
Hi, Catherine – I love the colors you combined in this outfit…including the hair color!! Thanks for the linkup – Angie

Thank you Angie – my hair always adds another colour to my outfit 😉
Totally fed up with Winter (& Covid) now. Everything is damp and dreary! I want to wear brighter clothes that don’t get covered in mud and dirty splashes. Great post, many thanks for sharing and hosting. Jacqui x

We’re still knee-deep in mud, Jacqui (never got the snow)… I need spring NOW!! TY my lovely x
My link up this week is probably not the best fashion blog but if I eat less fried foods I’ll be able to wear much cuter fashion? Yeah, for happy birthday air fryer.
Author
Amber please don’t think that being slimmer = the ability to wearer cuter clothes… always dress for the shape you are now rather than “waiting” to be slimmer (if that’s what you were getting at)? I fully advocate being healthy and fit – goodness knows I’ve struggled with my weight over the last few years but for me it was all about getting my health back to its peak – I did lament not being able to wear the clothes I already had that I loved. However, it wasn’t the be-all-and-end-all… exercise and eat more healthily to be fitter and stronger, not just in order to wear slimmer clothes (that’s simply a bonus side effect).
But if that’s what you’re doing already – Bravo you!! Get fit and healthy for YOU and for your long-term health and happiness above all else xo
I am all about injecting some color into this frigid winter! I love your cold weather accessories! These are such great colors and color makes us smile even during the dreary winter months of a global pandemic! I am absolutely ready for spring weather. I am tired of wearing 14 layers of clothing just to keep warm. I live in hats all winter long even while indoors, so I am all about fun and vibrant head gear!

I always wear my bobble hats indoors too, Shelbee… and we have a pretty warm house (being a new build)!! LOL
Bring on spring, I can’t wait xx
Your purple and orange contrast spectacularly Catherine!
Author
Thank you MT – a happy accident I think! x
I bought a bright red Canada Goose parka this winter that could stop buses and transport trucks three blocks away. No one can miss me in all the Canadian snow this winter. Why go black or navy when you can glow.
Author
Wowsers, Lynda – sounds amazing!! Reminds me of my red ski suit I had when we lived in Canada when I was little (aged 3-5)… I also had a red balaclava. The photos of me are hilarious, this all-over bright red tiny girl in the snow 😉
I am in love with your Ringel Boots Catherine. Thank you for link up party.
XO Tina
Author
I’ve not heard of wellies being called Ringel boots, Tina – that’s a new one for me (had to look them up)!! Thank you my lovely xx
Love those bright accessories! You are so right about the winter doldrums just now. I’m separating out everything warm/semi-warm in spring colors to start wearing in March. February is one of our coldest months here, and March pretends to be spring, but is cold, windy and heart-breaking.
I’d love to add your “button” to my blog, but I’ll need to be talked through how to do that…
Author
March pretends to be spring here a lot of the time too, MK – as does April sometimes!! I need to start digging out some spring clothes too 😀 x
