=Sigh= Yes, I’ve done it again. Like I did with skinny jeans a few years back (and even further back than that: leggings), ruffled collars, backpacks and chunky trainers, I’ve worn something a second time around that was previously a big fat No. And loved it.
I’d noticed that bucket hats had been making their way back on the style scene (you can tell I’m old and probably wore them first time just through my use of the expression “back on the scene” #eyeroll), and at first I was OF COURSE all, No I’m not wearing them again, no way, nope, never.
And then what happens?
[Reading time: 2 mins]
You guessed it… before I know it I’m ordering a camel bucket hat “just to see what it’s like”. Just to see if it suits me.
(I’m going to stick my neck out – with a big fat egotistical head on top – and say that ALL hats suit me. I’ve yet to find a hat that doesn’t like me. There. I’ve said it.)
And the inevitable happened: I wore it round the house a bit, caught my reflection a few times, and decided to keep it. It seems I like bucket hats… What on earth is wrong with me?!
In my defence, it’s actually a very practical hat for this time of year. The outfit here (as is all too obvious from the picture of a wayward greyhound named Suki, below) is a dog-walking outfit from the weekend, where we actually had a very mild autumn day and a few showers. When walking the dog I usually grab either a baseball cap or a beanie/bobble hat; the former doesn’t keep your hair dry in the rain but doesn’t make your head hot, and the latter doesn’t repel rain in any way but does keep your head and ears warm.
(This is compelling reading, I know, but stick with me.)
The bucket hat is good in the rain and doesn’t make you hot, so a perfect combination of the two for milder weather…! WINNING, me.
Sunday was Remembrance Sunday in the UK and as I’ve done for most of the last few years on the blog, I’ve photographed the outfit I wore with my Remembrance poppy. Funnily enough I wore my poppy with this same green jacket last year but hadn’t realised – it’s yet another coat in my arsenal of “longline jackets that I wear over and over” (scroll down to see some of the other ways I’ve worn it).
Also… check out the other “Remembrance Day outfits” I’ve worn through the years – in other words when I’ve worn my poppy: 2011 / 2012 / 2014 / 2016 / 2017 / 2017 (two that year) / 2018 / 2019.
Hope you’re having a good week; we just found out yesterday that there’s news of a vaccine. This year just might improve a bit for us all yet, fingers crossed.
Stay safe, XOXO
P.S. I’m drawing the line at denim bucket hats with the brim turned up at the front. And a flower stuck on the side. OH, THE HORROR…
