Online brand Very.co.uk have launched the Very Collection, their first own-brand fashion range — and I think it’s very fabulous. If you’re looking for on-trend pieces that lean toward classic style and are very affordable (very important to me right now), you honestly need to check this collection out. Very soon. (I think you get the point I’m very much trying to make…!)
And, as they say, the proof is in the pudding: Normally when I place an online order, I order lots of things in the hopes that at least one item will fit me and that I like it on me. However, this time I loved EVERYTHING. It all looked gorgeous when I unpacked it, and everything fitted and suited me. That never happens…!

Here’s the crack: Very asked me to select pieces from their new collection and create an autumn-winter capsule wardrobe with £350… I rose to the challenge as enthusiastically as Sarah Jessica Parker at a Manolos sale. I wanted a set of basics to mix and match, so I ordered the following:
1 x coat
3 x knits (1 x bright sweater, 1 x neutral sweater, 1 x cardigan)
1 x T-shirt
1 x pair of jeans
1 x skirt
1 x pair of loafers
1 x pair of boots
(All that for £350!)
The pieces I ordered are all interchangeable and coordinate with each other. The outfit combinations I could have shown you were endless, but here are a few to start with…
I decided on a longline wool coat, and as a lover of autumnal colours (summer may be my favourite season for the weather, but autumn is my favourite season for making heart eyes at the colour palette), it had to be the single-breasted chocolate-brown wool coat. It’s the perfect lengthening cut for me. Love it.
If you want shorter jackets, they have a great selection of barn jackets in beige, burgundy and khaki (the khaki with the brown collar is my fave). The outfit above — jeans paired with the coat and the V-neck knit in this delicious chartreuse colour — gives me Victorian urchin/baker boy vibes. I’ve always been a fan of masculine chic, and this outfit certainly ticks that box.
I haven’t worn jeans in an age because none of mine fit me anymore and — I’ll be honest — I couldn’t be bothered to run the jeans-shopping gauntlet again. BUT this wide-leg pair, with that delightful checked hem detail, is soooo good. I sized up for comfort, so I’m wearing a UK size 16 and they’re loosely snug, if that’s not an oxymoron, and supremely comfortable.
I’ll be spared the pain of shopping for jeans once more this winter. I have my comfy dark denims. And look how good they look with the flatform loafers, also from the Very Collection:
Truly, I’m wondering whether Very surreptitiously dived into my inner style monologue when they designed this collection, because HOW GOOD are all these pieces? There’s not a thing I’d change about any of them.
Moving on to knitwear and skirts, we have these beauties:
A truly incredible suedette maxi skirt in chestnut brown. Be warned: this skirt is half-lined and heavy, it’ll keep your legs and bum toasty. For reference, I’m 5’7″ and it’s the perfect length to graze the tops of my shoes or boots. It might be too long if you’re on the shorter side, but perfect for above average or taller girls… especially those who want to channel their inner American Civil War Pioneer. The ultimate accessory for it would be a lasso on my hip. It’s swooshy and heavy and kicks out as you walk.
Which brings me onto the calf biker boots:
I’ll be very surprised if I haven’t worn these boots out by the end of the winter — I think I’ve worn them nearly every day since they arrived. There are no zips, so your foot just slides straight in, and they are COMFY AS. The biker boot style has been on my radar for a while, and I love them as much as I hoped I would. They look just as good with the jeans as they do with the skirt, and OMG they look great with the cargo pants I already have in my wardrobe.
If you’re more of a knee high boot kinda gal, then Very have you covered: they have an extensive range of knee high boots in all the classic neutrals. And for larger-calved girls (like me!) there are, thankfully, wide-fit options as well.
So that’s footwear, now knitwear:
I’ve already warned my husband and family that this boucle jacquard cardigan is going to become my whole personality this winter. Is it a jacket? Is it a cardigan? Who knows. Who cares. It’s whatever you want it to be. I just want it on me all day, every day. It was the first piece that caught my eye and made me go, THAT, PLEASE… and it’s as delish in real life as it is in the photos.
It’s a statement piece, it’s super soft, and for those that don’t like the itchiness of wool, the composition is 79% polyester, 20% polyamide and only 1% wool… and therefore machine washable. Result. I think my 91-year-old mother wants one for herself because every time she’s seen me wear it she’s said, Oh, I DO love that cardigan…!
Finally — coming back to that ERMAHGERD chocolate brown fringe sweater in the lead image. I love a sweater with a roll neck that substitutes a scarf (floppy roll necks annoy me…), and that fringing, the yummy brown colour, the ribbed cuffs… there isn’t much that makes me wish temperatures would drop a bit, but this sweater does exactly that.
I’m stunned that Very have managed to create a collection that’s so versatile, stylish AND affordable, and there’s so much to choose from (not forgetting a men’s collection and matching PJ sets for the whole family). I could easily have ordered three times as much and probably loved everything.
I’m envisioning the chocolate fringe sweater with the maxi skirt and boots.
I’m envisioning the Paris T-shirt (forgot to mention that fabulous basic, always love a graphic tee) with the jeans and the brown coat.
I’m envisioning the chartreuse sweater with the maxi skirt and the loafers.
I’m envisioning the boucle cardigan over the brown fringe sweater and jeans. With the biker boots.
Capsule wardrobes FOR THE WIN. I am SORTED. Well done to Very for an amazing first collection. Can’t wait to see what they have for Spring-Summer ’26.

Thank you Sanja! I was a bit worried about looking too dark overall with all the browns but I think the various shades work beautifully for autumn x
What a beautiful set of clothes! Colours really appeal to me and they just look like they will jazz up an existing wardrobe, too. What a lovely post, Catherine! (Time to finish digging out my fall/winter pieces…)
Catherine thank you! I'm just on the brink of swapping my summer wardrobe for my winter one, these pieces are going to fit perfectly x
Love seeing you and the fashion pics again! The fringe sweater is my favorite so cozy and warm for the coming winter. I’m not in the UK so I will have to be on the lookout for something similar on my side of the pond. Always looking for stylish basics and so tired of the ditzy florals and ruffles that have been popular lately. Great post -always looking for stylish forward to reading your work!
Thank you Christine - the fringe sweater is soooo nice, it's really toasty and I love the detail. I really appreciate your kind words! xx
