Goodbye summer, hello Arctic chill… it’s nearly November and we’re now heading towards winter for sure!
This outfit was worn for a day of shopping just over a week ago when we were experiencing what I’m now calling “The Official End of Summer 2018”. We had a glorious few days of mild temperatures and beautiful sunshine (as you can see in these pictures), but although the sun has lasted till today, the temperatures have not, sadly. The next time you see an outfit on the blog I can guarantee you it’ll be a wrapped-up one… winter coats at the ready!
What I wore for our 932nd furniture and homewares shop since moving in July (which was in the VERY glamorous locations of Ikea and an industrial estate for DIY stores and kitchen worktops) was a curious mixture of shades of green plus some fabulous accessories I treated myself to. Although it doesn’t seem it at first, the bones of this outfit are effectively monochrome:
SHOP THE LOOK:
Khaki jacket, bottle green trousers and lime greeny-yellow sweater (try this roll neck sweater if the colour is your bag). The sweater is aeons old and has appeared on the blog many, many times over the years. It’s a tough colour to wear but it’s a knit I come back to time and time again when I want something really bright in my outfit. But thinking about it it’s not just bright, it’s also a very WARM green.
Here’s a question: Is “warm shades of green” a contradiction?
I generally suit warm colours much better than cool and I’m convinced these are warm greens. Either way, for someone who doesn’t wear green (or blue) all that often I’m sure loving these shades together.
The new accessories I mentioned are the fabulous Art Deco-style earrings (resin, very lightweight) and the giraffe-print scarf – not giraffe print as in its coat, but a print that has giraffes on it. Those who know me well know that giraffes are my obsession – you’ve only got to look at the things we’ve bought for our home to see that…!
Don’t forget that the new day for the link up is Tuesday – scroll down to add your outfits to this week’s link up.

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Monday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
Linking up etiquette…
CLICK HERE to read the rules of linking up (and to grab the #iwillwearwhatilike button). Basically it’s just good manners to link back to here – to leave a comment is even nicer!
PLEASE NOTE: This is for linking up WHAT YOU’VE BEEN WEARING ONLY. Non-outfit links will be removed and you might be blocked if you turn out to be a repeat “offender”!

Love the colors in your outfit! Though this doesn’t fit with the color wheel, I have to say that green doesn’t appear “cool” to me. Maybe it’s the shades I gravitate toward, which are more golden. I (warm coloring) like to wear those warm, medium-rich shades of green and blue. I thought you might enjoy seeing these photos and info about the new baby giraffe in our local zoo. When I was teaching primary students (6-8-year-olds), one of the standards/themes was “How Animals Help People, and How People Help Animals.” It’s heart-warming to read how zoos and others try to help animals in different ways. http://virginiazoo.org/2018/10/a-newborn-for-noelle/

I’ve lost count how many times I’ve worn it in the last year Alison! It’s by your favourite – JD Williams 😀 thank you x
There can be warm greens and cool greens both, why not? It’s great that you found a shade you are on good terms with. I know about that running around with moving house from the past – exhilarating and exhausting in equal measure. Thanks for the linkup, Catherine.

I love the way you’ve described that Melanie – a shade of green “I’m on good terms with”!! Thank you my lovely x
I love the shades of green of the trousers and the jacket! Perfect with the yellow and the orange!

Thank you Andrea so much x
Green is my absolute favourite colour – regardless of the shade, I just adore it. And therefore I love this outfit. The jacket is gorgeous put I doubt it’ll be warm enough over there now will it? It’s just gone chilly here in Portugal too, and is pouring down with rain at the moment. Brrrrr (I love it though!).
I never thought about green having cool shades or warm shades but you do have a point!

Although I love black clothing, I think Autumn colors are fabulous! Such warmed, very nice.
Author
I love them too Nancy, despite summer being my fave season 😉
Of course there are warm shades of green. I like to think there’s a shade of every color for every person. Maybe I’m too optimistic, but color is just a combination of hues and shades, right??
XOXO

Chrissy thank you thank you!!!!!!!!! To be honest they’re mostly thrown together, somehow they usually work…!
I love green so much. I must dig out my old emerald tweed Max Mara tweed jacket. Thanks for reminding me of it.
P.S. We’ve had snow that doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to go away entirely. Kids were making snowmen a few days ago…. in October! Brrr.
Author
Ooh that jacket sounds fabulous Sue! Can’t believe you had snow already… :-O
Warm colours always look so beautiful on you Catherine. I love all of these pieces. The art deco earrings are lovely too. If I had to choose monochrome, I think it would probably be shades of blue or grey. I’m not quite as adventurous as you! xxxx

Awww thank you Liz! I can imagine you in these earrings actually…!
