You wouldn’t BELIEVE how many people told me I should wear emerald green more after I wore it recently.
I was working at a JD Williams photo shoot last month and one of my outfits was a rather fabulous emerald green trouser suit (blazer/trousers*, see me wearing it here). I know it seems obvious – being a [faux] redhead and all – but I’ve never really worn a strong emerald green before. And I will admit, it seems it’s all true what they say about redheads and green… they really do complement each other!
I loved this green so much I promptly bought this boxy dress from Warehouse (sold now out everywhere sadly, this dress is similar). I also have the sample green suit from JD Williams that they kindly gifted to me on the day, so watch this space for that too.
(BTW the link up is a day late as I wasn’t able to post yesterday, apologies!)

SHOP THE LOOK:
As I’ve mentioned here before I’m not a short skirts/short dresses kind of girl, so I bought the dress with the sole intention of layering it over trousers. The ones I wore here are stretchy, boot cut leggings – perfect for smooth lines underneath a dress. However, I didn’t bank on the fabric wrinkling so damn much: yes, I did iron it before I left the house – that’s what sitting in the car does, boo!
I’m also deeply into my fabric headbands at the moment. I’ve bought several in all my favourite colours: yellow, neutrals, green, pink (as worn here), even an orange AND pink one that matches my blog colours.
Pink seemed the best choice as a contrast for this gorgeous green, and that meant the fabulous Lorelsberg printed tote bag* I was gifted last year would tie in with the green and pink.
And that’s it! Easy peasy! I guess it’s a countdown to autumn now, right…?
What colour do you never wear but you feel you should (one that you’re ‘meant’ to wear with your colouring for example)? Comment below…!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Emerald green really looks good on you. Lovely look.

Thank you Anna – I was surprised just how much I like it on me! x
I can see a LOT more green making its way into your closet soon! Once I got started (by that Winser London knit long cardigan, my first piece of green clothing) I’ve added more and more and more. Green is warmer than blue and looks great on those of us who need warm tones. It is FABULOUS with your skin and hair. The JDW suit is killer, I can’t wait to see how you style that little baby up.

Maybe you inspired me with that gorgeous Winser green of yours, Lisa!! And you’re right, it’s warmer than blue… I’ve always liked olive/khaki green for the same reason. Thank you so much darling x
Seeing this dress styled as a top, I assumed it was one! I think it works beautifully over trousers because of the side buttons and actually prefer it this way. You really don’t wear green much do you Catherine? I hadn’t realized but yes it’s gorgeous on you my love.

Very rarely wear green, MT – though it’s gradually creeping into my wardrobe 😉 Thank you soooo much x
Wow you look gorgeous in emerald green 🙂

Thank you Darlene – maybe I shall! 😉 x
Great color and I love the cut of those pants!!

Thanks Mireille – the leggings were SUCH a good purchase, they’re perfect for wearing under dresses…!
This color looks great on you. It’s a great color for “red heads by birth.” Thus, it’s understandable that you were hesitant. But your skin is more like that of a red head than a sandy blond. You also look stunning in these orange, burnt red, brown and coral, blush, and rose petals. The typical colors for gals with red hair. The outfit is also great. A nice summer-to-fall transition outfit. Love it.

Thanks Nicole – yes I’ve realised over the years that warm colours are my friend… plus they’re just my favourites anyway!
Green looks great with your red tresses… of course you knew that Catherine! Ha
I love green in all its guises :o)

I think I will, Cheryl… thank you!!
I also get compliments when I wear green because it turns my eyes green, but I prefer to wear blue as that color changes my eyes blue. Basically I have chameleon eyes!! Haha.
What a great tunic though.
I’m back to blogging after a little summer break, and I’m back to linking up as well. Thanks for this opportunity Catherine!
Love, Annie

Thank you Annie – I’ve not thought about it making my eyes look different; maybe it will make my green eyes greener?! Hope so! x
You do look stunning in this shade of green Catherine but you also suit shades of orange and red. Very versatile, lucky you. Hugs, Sarah aka badassbabyboomer ❤️

Thanks Sarah! x
I should wear more of any colour! Cerise hates me though. I stick to my neutrals far too much and this winter I plan on wearing more colour. I love the headband Catherine, I’ve been eyeing them up to and those earrings are gorgeous xx
Author
Thank you Laurie… yes cerise hates me too, far too much blue in it!
Love wearing green, but don’t have nearly enough pieces in my wardrobe. What a fun dress and love it how you’ve styled it. Thanks for hosting – I’ve added three links, hope that’s okay. xx Jacqui

Add as many links as you like, Jacqui!
And thank you, glad you love the green too 😀
I absolutely love the outfit on you, Catherine! Green is my favourite colour (Shelbee and I are often gushing about how much we love this gorgeous, earthy colour) so I always love seeing others wearing it too. I love the headband too. I’ve bought a few lately but I’m finding them tough to wear with glasses (eye roll).
Hugs
Suzy xx

Thanks Suzy – yes glasses are VERY awkward with a headband, but I’m struggling on…!! lol
Oh I love it! Green, especially emerald green, is my forever favorite color. And it does look lovely on you. I am a big fan of dresses over trousers, too. Such a great look! Well done!
