Don’t ask me what’s happened to the British summer…
As I type I’m back to sweaters, hoodies and jeans. We’ve had the most torrential rain over the past week (as well as thunderstorms!) and I’ve been wearing all manner of warmer clothes. Though what usually happens is that I go places – I live in the town centre and I usually walk everywhere to run errands and do a bit of local high street shopping – and end up at the other end a hot, sweaty mess.
The searing record temperatures may have dropped dramatically but it stays warm and humid enough to make knitwear a bad choice for anything other than just sitting…!
So this week I can’t give you any purty summer dresses, instead it’s my now-on-sale-and-omg-look-how-much-it’s-reduced-by pink and camel leopard print sweater. I’ve gone weeks without wearing it, now I’ve worn it a few times in the cooler weather. I bought it for the full price of £49 (not like me, but it was a wise impulse purchase) and it’s now only £15 in the sale. As long as I’ve worn something a lot I don’t regret buying it at full price. I figure I wouldn’t have had it to wear all those times otherwise, so no regrets.

SHOP THE LOOK:
A lack of summer dress in this outfit meant I had to throw in some other summery stuff, so white sandals (worn loads this year) and white bag brightens the whole thing up and stops it going into autumn/winter territory – the thought of a black bag and/or black shoes with this just depresses me. Add a (very old) straw hat and big round sunglasses (I’ll allow myself the black in the odd accessory here and there) and it’s a simple summer sweater and jeans combo with a little pizazz thrown in.
I’ve also noticed from these photos that my faux tanning game is pretty strong at last (it’s taken me ages to self tan this summer) – if you want to know which self-tanning spray and which face bronzer I use then check out last week’s 12 Beauty Products I Am Absolutely Loving Right Now post. The face bronzer is ESPECIALLY amazing.
Hopefully I’ll get some summer dresses in before the summer is over – though who knows where the British weather is concerned?!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

It’s still very summerish weather here, in Milan. So I cannot even imagine wearing jeans for example! But I must admit, I really look forward to fall and all jumpers, denim season! Nice outfit! 🙂

Oh gosh I wish we could have your heat, Bri!! And thank you for the compliment x
Fabulous sweater! I love the colours. The weather has been dreadful in the North West recently. I’m hoping we get some dry, sunny weather in September. I bet if we all pack our Summer clothes away it’ll be boiling hot and sunny again!

You’re right about packing away clothes signalling hot weather will be on its way, Emma…! 😉 thank you hon x
How cold is it? I’ve had a light jumper on the last couple of days! I love the sweater, such a fabulous colour and the white bag and shoes really do keep the feel of summer alive. I’m praying that the sun returns 🙂

Thanks Steph! It got really hot after this post so your wish was granted!!
Hasn’t they weather been awful! I too put a jumper on the other day, albeit only for a short time, but come on it’s August!!! Snazzy jumper, that does brighten up the outfit, but will still be super in Autumn. Thanks for hosting and here’s to a better weekend. Jacqui Mummabstylish
Hi Catherine, absolutely love the jumper and ordered one. Couldn’t go wrong at that price and if I didn’t like it on me it is free return. Anyway it is beautiful, so soft! Thank you for the post, I will feel great when I wear it
Author
Excellent, Carole – hope you love it as much as I love mine!!!! Such a bargain!
Author
Thanks Jacqui – you got the hot weather for bank holiday weekend, hurrah!
I have been a ‘stalker’ on this website for quite some time now but never left a comment. I want to say that you, and Samantha Blair of Fake Fabulous, have really helped me get over my hang-ups about wearing certain things because they are not considered age-appropriate. I’ve never really cared about the rules and as long as I don’t feel I look ridiculous, I will wear whatever. Maybe one day I’ll pluck enough courage to post some photos of myself on my blog. Keep up the good work

WOW Loree, what a great comment… that’s made me so happy, I’m so glad you “un-lurked” and said hello! Great to hear you’ll hopefully post pics of your outfits! Thank youuuuuuuuu xx
I’m loving these colors together! I also really love that hat on you – looks so good!
Author
Aww Grace thank you! x
Loving this preview of fall fashion!!!! I’m still surrounded by summer dresses and rising temperatures – but fall peeks just over the horizon, LOL!

Oh gosh no please don’t mention the f-word, Joi!!!!!! 😉 hehe 😉 Thank you hon x
We had such nice weather for our cruise there a few weeks ago–thank goodness! Mostly in the 60s and low 70s. Which is just about what we’re having here along the coast in Southern California. I suspect our summer weather will arrive this fall, though who knows! I love those wide-leg jeans–they look super cute on you.

Wow I’m surprised it’s not boiling where you are, Darlene!! Thank you my lovely x
Urgh! The weather! Certainly, put my photos on hold this past few days. I think its still been warm here in London though, just muggy.
Love this cheery outfit though! Hopefully our summer isn’t quite over yet xx
Author
Oh I can just imagine how muggy it is in London, Laurie 🙁
This outfit looks so comfortable and the white bag and white shoes add fantastic glamour. What is up with the weather? In Southern California we have scarcely had any heat at the beach, people are wearing sweaters, summer has not been Endless it has barely started up. We are not tanned and we are not pleased.
Author
That’s what Darlene said about SoCal, Liz – it really surprises me (us Brits think you all have boiling hot summers every single year)!!
Thank you, glad you liked the cool weather look 😉
Lovely outfit & you look so beautifully bronzed ! Yes I know exactly what you mean about dressing for the rain and getting hot !! We moved to a market town in the spring and like you after a spot of shopping in foot I am barging through the front door to abandon a wet brolly and grab a cold drink !!!
Author
Thanks Karen! Love the contrast this weather brings of rain and mugginess, though it’s got even colder the past few days here 🙁
Great outfit! I love the green pants with the raw hem and that sweater is such a nice color change from the usual leopard spots. While I am not looking forward to summer ending, I would be okay with temperatures a few degrees cooler. Have a great week, Catherine. – Amy
Author
Thank you Amy – yes I love the colours in this print too… make a nice change from “proper” leopard, doesn’t it 🙂
You look FAB & ready for whatever Mother Nature decides for the day. Pink & green are a great combo year-round. I get so many ideas following your Blog & the links you post. Thank you!
It’s in the upper 90s-F with heat index 108-110dF past several days. Typical August weather in SW Louisiana. Light, gauzy, breeze-friendly clothing is a must… for now.
Author
Aww Beverly that’s so sweet of you, thank you! Send some of your heat our way, will you…?!
I am in love with your pants. Combined with this wonderful sweater you look like summer and amazing…..against all odds of the weather 🙂
Author
Oh Tina thank you!!
I really like this color combo and need to make note of it (getting lots of inspiration today!). That sweater has a great pattern and I am sure you will get your money’s worth!
Author
Thank you Mirelle – I’d not thought of pink/camel and green together before but I do like it a lot…!
I really like the blend of bright colours and summery shoes in a cozy outfit, seasonal transition dressing challenge conquered!
Author
Thanks Steff! x
I love this outfit combination. Perfect for our unpredictable weather!! I’ve been on the lookout for a pair of wide leg jeans for ages, really like those that you’re wearing. I’m also not keen on paying full price for items, but sometimes its unavoidable, even the teeniest discount is good.

I almost NEVER pay full price for anything, Alison! Well I did get the jeans for an absolute steal, so I made up for the full-price sweater there I guess 🙂
As you can see on my photos the one week is hot the other is rainy and cooler. Please keep your fingers crossed for me by the end of August for good weather in the UK! That is a great sweater! Lovey color!
Author
Oh gosh I DO hope you get good weather here Nancy – often September is lovely so I hope your hols run into next month too!! & thank you xx
Pink and green is such a great color combo! One of my favorites actually. And these pants are simply adorable. I am with you…I don’t pay full price for many things, but if I get a ton of wear out of it (especially before it goes on sale) then I do consider it worth the money spent. This jumper is so totally you and I love all the ways you have styled it on the blog so far. This outfit is so darling! I would wear it in a heartbeat! And just like…summer is gone!
Shelbee
Author
Thank you darling Shelbee – don’t say that about summer though!! I want it to come back…!!!!! 😉 hehe
I love how the weather keeps us on our toes. That jumper is an amazing bargain – and I think Oliver Bonas are quite underrated, they have lots of fab stuff.
Author
It’s SUCH a bargain, Gail – and you’re right about Oliver Bonas! I think they have some fabulous pieces 🙂
You magically made a sweater and jeans summery by adding those fab shoes Catherine!
Author
Aww thanks MT, I’ve got so much wear out of them this year x
