If Elizabeth Taylor and Marilyn Monroe had been around today, would they have been on Instagram?
We all know that most celebs these days are on Insta (how can you miss Ariana Grande, Beyoncé and all the Kardashians), but try and imagine old Hollywood stars transported to 2019 and exposed to the world of social media. Would we be reading Ms. Taylor’s tweets? Would Grace Kelly be ‘gramming?
So just as a bit of fun for this week’s ShareAll post, I thought I’d share my thoughts on what the actresses from the golden age of Hollywood might be sharing on Instagram, complete with follower counts, number of likes and a caption. See what Audrey Hepburn, Bette Davis, Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly, Greta Garbo, Katharine Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe would typically be posting if they were let loose with a smartphone and millions of followers.

What would they be talking about? What would they be promoting? What images would they use? This is all in the name of fun as mentioned and of course, do note that these are NOT real accounts or actual embedded posts (all simply done in Photoshop!) so you can’t actually click on the “View Profile” or “Add comment” parts… please don’t get frustrated with me if you can’t click on them! ; -P
AND as a little something extra for you I’ve found some key pieces to shop in case you’re tempted by Katharine Hepburn’s mannish suits, Marilyn’s actual red lipstick or Elizabeth’s earrings.
Now, go forth and double tap those images [for the purpose of this post that translates as: Please be kind enough to leave me a comment!]

Glad you enjoyed it Mireille x
I would love to follow all of them because they all seem fun or witty! The Karshadians had nothing on these ladies! Thanks for sharing this post.

You’re SO right about the Kardashians, Lanae…!!
Enjoyed this post Catherine – I love most of the actresses above. I really enjoy those old black and white films. The stories are always fabulous. I would follow Bette Davis – such a straight talker with no filters she would be hilarious and so entertaining- plus her style was amazing.

I think Insta was MADE for someone like Bette Davis and her acerbic wit, Alison!! Thank you 😉
Very nice post. I don’t the answer because it seems to me that old Hollywood had a little bit more class than these days. Thanks for hosting and I hope that you have a wonderful week.

I agree about old Hollywood, Patrick… no one has EVER been more classy than either Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn IMO!!

I agree Joling, she was always my fave x
Oh you are a clever Woman Miss Catherine. Absolutely brilliant idea and I love how you followed through creating the accounts! I’m sitting here wondering what Gloria Swanson and Elvis Presley would tweet now bahahaha!
Author
Thanks MT! It’s funny – of course, Gloria Swanson is the one who said “I’m ready for my close-up, Mr DeMille“ (whom Elizabeth Taylor mentioned in her caption)… kinda weird to think about stars from the past sharing things about their lives…!
Catherine, this post is SO much fun! I had to laugh out loud at some of “their” Instaposts! Lol! I agree about Greta Garbo. I wonder, too, if Betty Davis might’ve boycotted IG? Fun to think about…
Have a great weekend,

I did think about Bette boycotting Instagram, Darlene… I reserved that for Garbo!! At the very least Bette would have been quite acerbic I think – her caption about champagne is an actual quote of hers I found 😉
The quotes! What I’m wondering about this though is – Would they have supported each other on Instagram or would they be tearing each other down? xx
Author
Good question Laurie… Who knows?! I can imagine a lot of online spats between them, like there were real life ones (Bette Davis and Joan Crawford for example…!!
Brilliant post Catherine ! Loved how you made such fitting captions for each one !!!
Author
Thanks Karen – I can’t take the credit for all of them, two or three were actual quotes (Grace Kelly, Bette Davis and Katharine Hepburn for example)!
Fun post Catherine you had me chortling

I’m glad Sarah, thank you X
I would have loved to follow Lauren Bacall. That voice, those eyes!
Author
Oh I really wanted to add Lauren Bacall, Nancy, but I had to limit it to 6 as it was getting too time-consuming…! But yes, she was one of the greats – Keith’s favourite in fact 😉
What a great post idea!! I love Liz selling lash serums, and my girl Grace being a feminist as well as a princess! Fantastic. Clever clogs, you are. xx
Author
Aww Thanks Lisa! I did think about Liz having her own line of diamonds, but I thought beauty products (and her eyelash “deformity”) was fitting for a serum promotion…!
I absolutely love this post Catherine!!! I adore Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly and their style. Such a uplifting, fun post xxxx

Thank you Liz – I agree about Audrey and Grace… there’s just no one that classy today, is there 🙂
