I think I’ve found the secret to dressing in cold weather without several layers of thermals, a scarf and coat…
It’s called This Roll Neck Sweater from Marks & Spencer. And OMG is it warm and cosy… I knew it would be warm because of the high neck that doesn’t flop down: it completely negates the need for a scarf. I bought it on a whim last weekend because I was helping my mum shop for new sweaters online and I suggested this one to her, but she doesn’t like roll necks. I liked it so much I added it to the basket anyway (as well as the mustard yellow one, oops) and of COURSE it turned out to be perfect [for me].
As well as the roll neck (which, by the way, is like wearing the longest, thickest woolly scarf you’ve ever wrapped around your neck in your life) and its chunky cable knit to keep you all-over warm, the sweater is super long and covers your bum. I’m not a fan of cropped sweaters when their sole purpose is to keep you warm because I like my bee-hind to be cosy.
❝
WITH JUST A LONG-SLEEVED JERSEY TOP UNDERNEATH IT KEPT ME SUPER WARM, THERE WAS NO NEED FOR A COAT AT ALL.
❞
I wore it with a light jacket over the top the first time last week: BIG mistake. HUGE (as Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman). I was absolutely boiling, and it wasn’t one of the warmer days we’ve had recently. With just a long-sleeved jersey top underneath it kept me super warm, there was no need for a coat at all.
And I REALLY feel the cold, people – I’ve been known to wear gloves in the summer if it’s chilly enough. So there you have it, my number one tip for dressing warm and cosy in the autumn without a coat – you heard it here first!
The rest of the outfit
The other parts of the outfit were kind of easy as the bright colour of this sweater did all the hard work. I’m wearing my tan ankle boots for the second time – first seen earlier this month with a maxi dress – they really are the comfiest boots ever. Perfect for walking the dog (long wet grass and a bit of mud isn’t a problem), yet they’re smart enough for a day’s shopping or sightseeing as I did in Amsterdam with them.
I did mention first time they appeared on the blog that I’d be wearing them a lot this autumn/winter… I was right!
SHOP THE LOOK:
The statement earrings
The other exciting part of my outfit is the jewellery: I was kindly gifted these fabulous gold-plated, Art Deco-inspired earrings by Milk Tooth London. I discovered the brand a few weeks ago and I’ve been oohing and ahhing over them every time I’ve seen them featured on Instagram. They have both vintage earrings and their own designs, the Pluralist Collection earrings, which are all variations of the gold, pink and navy colourway like mine. To be honest you might find yourself spoilt for choice and buying a few early Christmas presents (for yourself as well)… don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Statement earrings are having a big moment right now, so do check out Milk Tooth if you haven’t already – they’re a very young brand and deserve all the attention they’re getting right now.
(This isn’t sponsored btw – I wasn’t under any obligation to write about them at all, I just love their earrings.)
In other news…
Last week I discovered I was stoked to find out I’d been nominated for a blogging award bvy someone – not only was this news to me but it seems I’ve been shortlisted as a finalist! I’m a “Most Addictive Blog” finalist in the Thirty Plus Awards – if you have a moment to vote for me I’d really appreciate it!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
Linking up etiquette…

Thankyou for the opportunity to link up! Love your jumper…what a gorgeous colour on you! Mimi xxx
Gorgeous cosy jumper. I love the colour, very autumnal. I like high neck jumpers in Winter too because I get a very cold neck. Fabulous earrings!

Love cable knit sweaters. This one in particular because of the long length and the color red. The mustard must be gorgeous too. Am so used to seeing cable knits in white or ivory. This is a very nice change. And those earrings are stunning! Am very fond of the designs of the deco era.

Weehee this is what I adore about Winter! Bulky jumpers, boots & hats are heaven to me Catherine. Although I know you're not Winter's biggest fan, you do look the part lady & there's no denying this orange jumper was made for you 😉 xx
Oh wow – the colour of this Marks & Spencer sweater is incredible, dearest Catherine!! Love the oversized silhouette, too…and while I tend to prefer v-necks over turtlenecks, that doesn't mean I'm immune to their cozy appeal when the weather gets chilly!! XOXO P.S. You and Riley must be the chicest walking team in all of the UK!! ☺️

Loving the leggings & ankle boots!! I look terrible in sweaters like that—I tend to get a bulky affect 🙁
Oh my, this does look so warm and cozy!

I love an ultra-warm turtleneck for cold weather. You are so right – it's like a great big scarf around my neck except it doesn't fall off or trail on the ground. I love the colour you've chosen – and would like to see the mustard. Thanks for the linkup!
Oh I LOVE this jumper so much, as you know I swooned over it on Instagram! It really is perfect… cozy, fashionable, and a great colour. Just voted in the Blog Awards too! xx
Great to see you breaking out the flat cap too Catherine, I wore mine this weekend. A cosy jumper really is an essential wardrobe item – I spent a bit more than usual on a Boden one, and it has already earnt its keep. The red looks fab on you xx
Oooooh, those earrings! I can see why you've fallen for them. They're gorgeous. You (and Riley), look fab. The colours are perfect for you and you look super stylish and super cosy xxx Love Liz xxx http://www.whatlizzyloves.com
