How To Do Double Denim Subtly With Coloured Denim

Denim jacket, plaid & tie-dye scarf

Double denim (or denim on denim) is a look some find a little too matchy-matchy, which I can completely understand. But if you’re hesitant and want to try it, all you need to do to ease yourself in is simply pair coloured denim with your traditional blue – blue with white, blue with red, etc. – the easiest combination being a denim jacket and coloured jeans. It then looks a lot less like a denim “suit” and is easy to style.

So I went with my fave denim jacket and white skinnies – perfect for a cooler summer day. The colourful additions to this outfit were my trusty coral brogues (these ones are almost identical) and a gorgeous hand painted silk scarf I was kindly gifted by Lush Scarves, who specialise in handmade scarves. The one I chose was the Lava Marine tie-dye scarf – it’s so pretty and soft!

Are you a fan of the double denim look? And if not, would you consider the more subtle “denim on coloured denim” look instead…? Let me know in the comments!

What a vibrant outfit, Catherine! πŸ™‚ You look great.
Although I'm not really afraid of the double denim look, I think I prefer wearing coloured denims on the bottom and a denim jacket/shirt.

I've got to admit, I didn't think double denim could or should work. But I have to say, I love this outfit. It really does work! You look great x

it is the blue on blue that makes me hesitate. Blue on white or white on blue is much better to my eye. Great job.

I love it! I've always been a fan of denim on denim, even if the whole outfit is blue denim. Here, it's subtle yet gorgeous and chic! This is a perfect outfit for a cool night. Unfortunately, where I am, I'd be sweating like crazy in that!

    Have a great day, Catherine!
