The hot weather is continuing for now in the UK (so happy!), so summer dressing is still the order of the day: a day in the garden and a barbeque required little more than a loose top and denim shorts over my bikini. Plus it’s such a bonus when you discover that a new accessory (the wide-brimmed hat from Reiss) goes perfectly with a favourite piece of clothing you get out every year (the Asos cutaway top).

Now, I’m not normally one to get my legs out on show quite as much as this, but when it’s essentially holiday dressing and everyone’s in shorts then I’m more than happy to join in (just as long as I have heels on – and these ones are actually very comfy). As long as I keep doing my squats and lunges I should just about get away with it 😉

How do you feel about getting your legs out for the summer – are you like me and insist on wearing heels to help with the leg-lengthening? Or are you fine with flats? Let me know!

You look great! 🙂 I'm fine with getting my legs out – more nervous about my dress blowing up and flashing my bum!

It's funny, since shorts have become part of every day wear living in Atlanta, I no longer know what all the fuss is about! You look amazing as always:)

Thank you Poppy – I guess we're just not used to many days of hot weather in a row in the UK. I had the heating on about a month ago!!!!

I really like how your earrings and hat really compliment each other. Overall, great outfit!

You look great. I got my legs out too…both combined with wedges and with flats and whilst I was a bit wary at getting them out at my grand old age, no one really cared. Plus, there were women older and larger than me with their legs on the show and after seeing that I really didn't worry about mine so much.

Good point, Kristina – though I still have to like what I see in the mirror, so I'll still be doing my lunges religiously!! Thank you sweetie x

Can't possibly see why u would not want to get those legs out Catherine! I reckon if we had this glorious weather all summer, a lot of body hang ups would disappear as the main thing at the minute is keeping cool at all costs! X

As you know I don't mind showing my legs. Alas, these days not more than from the knee down. Which is why I love skinnies. They give me a chance to show them off without reveiling them. In hot weather I wear a breezy skirt. To the knee. Where are those days when I could rock shorts like you do? Still have a picture.
You my dear look ever so good in this outfit.

THe last picture is priceless. So pretty and makes me feel like getting a hat soonest to wear it out in the hot sun =D
I guess I'm ok with both heels and flats. Recently in my summer vacay I'm in flats most of the time due to walking.

I am so glad I stumbled across your blog. I am a youthful 40 year old who has been addicted to fashion blogs for forever. As I've matured in age I realized that although I love the styles of the blogs most of the bloggers are in their 20's and as I take some inspiration from them most I don't feel comfortable wearing. IE short short cut offs. I searched and searched for bloggers 40+ to see their take on fashion. What I found was a slew of of shall I say this ,women taking pictures of themselves in their latest Chico's and Coldwater creek outfits. I almost felt depressed. Then I came a cross your blog. A breath of fresh air. I just had to drop you a line to tell you I love it!!!!

Anyway off I go to change into some cropped ripped up jeans and an off the shoulder tshirt.

If I had legs like yours, they'd be on display every day. You look fabulous in your shorts and top, and love the hat!

Long may you show off your gorgeous gams. Sadly, I gave up decades ago. Being over 63 is my excuse now, but it really was always that they just didn't work as well naked as draped!
