My Black and White Fear

Last year I resolved to start Everybody Everywear in 2012 as I’ve not participated before, then I found out it was black and white. Oh, the HORROR!

So originally I decided not to do it… then changed my mind even though I knew I’d missed the EBEW deadline. I wanted to do it anyway just for myself (and the challenge)!

This truly was a challenge for me: I live for colour, so if January had been orange and green, or yellow and blue I would have been fine. But I’ve bought some of my favourite clothes and shoes by trying on things I would NEVER normally wear, so black and white it was.

I will admit I didn’t actually wear this out – it was the result of a Sunday spent trying on clothes, scarves and shoes to try and make something work. BUT now looking at the photos I really rather love this outfit and will definitely wear it out sometime soon. I loved this outfit simply because I mixed texture and pattern – if I can’t have colour then I have to have pattern. I paired my Thomas Wylde skull scarf (THE scarf to have a few years ago and still one of my favourites) with stripes, and love the contrast of skulls and a flower.

So that’s a lesson learned: I have to take up the challenge next time and go with it, not chicken out like a scaredy-cat. Famous last words…?!

Just discovered your blog–love it lady!! You and I have the same hair and skin tone, the same love of color and appreciation for mixing retro, trendy, and rocker-chic styles. I too am a forty-something with longish red hair who believes that being adventurous with fashion increases health, creativity and over-all well being. Wish you weren't across the pond–I'd invite you over for coffee right now!

I would never have the guts to wear skulls other than in October, but you make it works so well for January.

I often avoid the black and white combo for fear of looking like a waiter. Your combination is perfect. Skulls for the win.
