Borrowed From the Boys: Shirts For Him That You Can Wear Too

Ad | Yes, it’s mid-December (how did THAT happen) and yes, that means it’s serious Christmas shopping time… I also assume that means that summer is, sadly, really over.

(I will always, always lament the end of summer.)

Now although many of us will be having a somewhat pared-back Christmas this year, I’m sure that most of us will still be buying something for – if we have one – the special man in our lives, am I right?

And whether that the man in your life be your husband, partner, father, brother, son or BFF, then I’m guessing you’re likely to be having a mare trying to think of what to get them. Having to get Christmas gifts for men sends even the best gift-buyers into a bit of a panic.

How about an idea that’s what I’m calling a “gifts for men hack” (it’s essentially a gift for you as well)?

Thanks to Ralph Lauren menswear, I may just have the perfect solution. Remember, it’ll benefit YOU in the long run (don’t say I’m not wily, for I am).

Buy him a Ralph Lauren shirt for Christmas, his birthday or any time

Hands up (be honest here) if you sometimes buy presents either secretly hoping that the person may not like it and will just let you keep it, or (and this may or may not be me…) you buy something for someone that you know will love it, however, in actuality, YOU’RE crushing hard on it – and you have a secret plan to borrow the bejesus out of it?

I present to you a rather fabulous men’s shirt that not only the man in your life will love, but you will too. I think it’s safe to say buying Ralph Lauren will guarantee that you’ll both love it.

I’m wearing the Classic Fit Hoffman Print Camp Shirt, and it’s a beauty. Wonderfully neutral in navy blue and white but with a bold angelfish print and coconut shell buttons, it reminds me of Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea.

If you’ve read the book or seen the original illustrations, you’ll know what I mean.

Being short-sleeved, this is a shirt that he can wear in summer like a Hawaiian shirt but, being classic navy, it also lends itself to layering in the colder seasons.

And that’s just what I’ve done here. I recommend you buy it for him and casually borrow it after a month or two. Layer it with a white roll neck, a navy blazer and jeans and you’ve got an effortlessly casual autumn/winter outfit.

Plus, bonus: Ralph men’s Lauren shirts are, of COURSE, the most delicious quality. This one hangs beautifully (in that slightly floppy way), is machine washable and so soft. If a fish print isn’t for you [sorry, I mean him] you could go for a classic like the Custom Fit Corduroy Shirt ( I love the dark green) or an updated take on a check shirt with the Plaid Chamois Workshirt (blue and orange? Yes please).

There are over 250 shirts to choose from, so you’re bound to find that perfect shirt that you he (HE!) will love.

So go forth and shop, and remember: what Christmas present is better than one that doubles up for you both? If the man in your life is also your significant other then you could argue that as you both get to wear it, it’s effectively half-price… ; -)

Do you think this gifts-for-men hack is as genius as I do? Let me know in the comments box below…

Stay safe, XOXO

My husband is an XL tall; he is 6’4” and I am 5’2”.
Not sure I can share his shirts, but I will try on one of his short sleeve brachytherapy shirts to see!

Can’t help thinking the real star of this post is the white jumper

I think a white roll neck makes look anything look great when layering, but personally I don’t think this fabulous shirt needs any help…! 😉

Great idea, Catherine! There is much angst lurking in my husband’s closet (is this stylish? do I look like I’m trying too hard? Do I look old-fashioned?) and this checks a lot of boxes. I love the way you’ve styled it as well – fresh, with flair but comfy. Lovely to see you back out, friend! You’re inspiring me to blow the cobwebs off my blog and crank out a few posts over the Christmas break…

I love that you’ve said there’s much “angst” in your husband’s closet, MK (LOL!) – thank you for the kind comments, I think fresh with flair is a lovely way to describe the overall look x

I think it’s a fab idea, Catherine! And I love the fish print, it’s really fun. My hubby is so much taller than me, and has much longer arms, so his shirts swamp me, but I reckon he would like a few high end, quality shirts like this!
    Gorgeous photos, by the way.
    Big hugs

Thanks Suzy – yes isn’t the fish print fabulous? It’s got a touch of the retro about it I think (hence my Hemingway reference). I don’t think you can go wrong with a beautiful shirt for your SO (or yourself!!) 😀
