In yet another example of why I think skinny jeans aren’t as good/modern/on trend as straight leg jeans are right now, here’s another way to wear the same dark wash straight leg jeans* I wore last week. This weekend I did a classy preppy look – with maybe a little twist here and there – and I’m convinced skinnies just wouldn’t have cut the mustard with this outfit.

SHOP THE LOOK:
I went away for a weekend with my detox retreat girlfriends in the Cotswolds (we wanted to spend some time together where naughty food and booze was allowed for a change!), and I wore the pink corduroy jumpsuit to drive there and this outfit to drive back. It wasn’t particularly cold so thick jumpers or socks weren’t necessary; I decided on a comfy-jeans-and-blazer combination.
Apart from the new-ish jeans these are all items which were, again, already in my wardrobe.
I’m still loving my Prince of Wales check blazer from AW17 (similar), and I honestly think a white roll neck is the hardest working layering piece I have during the autumn/winter months. Put them together and you’ve got a touch of the preppy AND a touch of the 70s.
Dark wash jeans are a classic, still with a deep rolled-up hem (as I mentioned in last week’s post I bought the long length jean specifically for that reason).
With a little bit of ankle poking out – SO much more flattering than jeans skimming your shoes – I wore my beige flatforms for a bit of extra height and leg-lengthening as well as for driving. (See the selection below for other choices.)
Finally, accessories: I’ll admit I’ve been more than a little inspired by Blair Eadie in the headband and pearl hoop earrings area (she’s the queen of this look IMO). You can see me wearing variations of that theme throughout this year here, here and here.
Do you dip into the preppy look now and then – blazers, dark wash jeans, loafers, etc.? Or has Blair’s headband/earrings combination got you like it has me?! Comment below…
P.S. Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured in my bi-monthly Women Who Wear What They Like post!

This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
CLICK HERE to read the rules of linking up (and to grab the #iwillwearwhatilike button). Basically it’s just good manners to link back to here – to leave a comment is even nicer!

PLEASE NOTE: This is for linking up WHAT YOU’VE BEEN WEARING ONLY. Non-outfit links will be removed! Also: by linking up you’re saying it’s okay for me to drop you an email to say the link up is open – you can unsubscribe at any time.
