An Ingenious Travel Hand Luggage Bag That Lets You Go Hands-Free

An Ingenious Travel Hand Luggage Bag That Lets You Go Hands-Free: The Mia Tui Jennie Bag | Not Dressed As Lamb, Over 40 Style Blog

A stylish, hard-working hand luggage bag that lets you go hands-free at a very affordable price? What is this sorcery?! #Halloweenreference

[Reading time: 3 minutes]

(Did you notice the reading time above? You’ll see that on all posts from now on. This is a shorter post (let’s say “for me” – I’ll get the hang of writing less eventually), because I asked what you thought about bite-sized content in last Thursday’s post. Although the prize draw is open till the end of Sunday and I’d still love to get your thoughts on my new proposed format for the blog, it seems the idea of shorter content is very popular with people. It makes sense as we’re all so busy!)

So in my attempt to bring you shorter content more often, here we go…

Today I’m highlighting Mia Tui, an independent UK brand that makes an ingenious travel hand luggage bag I thought was worth introducing to you. I saw their bags on Instagram and thought WOW I NEED ONE OF THOSE (I’ll get to its really clever design feature in a minute). A large tote bag with lots of clever features that’s perfect for travelling AND a really reasonable price? I’m all over it.

Disclosure: I was gifted this bag by Mia Tui under no obligation (all content is original and opinions are 100% honest). This blog uses affiliate links at no cost to you. Full disclosure

Mia Tui very kindly gifted me the (very large, and I mean large) Jennie Travel Bag in mustard yellow, which, although it’s no longer available in that colour (well, I couldn’t see it), there are 17 other colours to choose from.

I loved it so much – and have been using it so much – that I thought I’d talk about it here.

The really clever feature that lets you go hands-free

So lots of colours, great quality and a fantastic brand ethic are all great reasons to consider this bag.

But BEST OF ALL, the Jennie Travel Bag has a pocket on the back that slips over the handle of a standard suitcase, so your bag sits securely on top of your case as you wheel it around or leave it standing.

That feature alone had me sold because it’s solved that annoying problem of your hand luggage or tote bag slipping off the top of your case as you’re wheeling it around, all the while trying to free your hands up.

Such a simple idea. It works like a DREAM.

An Ingenious Travel Hand Luggage Bag That Lets You Go Hands-Free: The Mia Tui Jennie Bag | Not Dressed As Lamb, Over 40 Style Blog

That’s it! What else do you really need to know? If you’re not yet sold or you just want to know more about Mia Tui or the Jennie bag, read on…

About Mia Tui and its female founder

This brand was set up by mum of two Charlotte Jamme in 2010 who, like a lot of mums and busy women, couldn’t find a bag with more than one pocket and one zipped compartment inside. So she designed a bag that had numerous pockets and compartments including a key clip, insulated bottle holder, phone pocket and pen pockets. The Jennie bag also comes with matching accessory bags: one clear for liquids on planes and a small clutch in the same colour for a dinner date or similar.

Bloody brilliant.

I’m all for championing women in business, especially when the product is this good. Go Charlotte, I say.

Product spec, delivery and returns, etc.

As far as the design goes, it doesn’t really look like hand luggage, more like a very large tote. So I can use it when going up on the train to London for work for the day and it doesn’t look like I’ve brought a holdall.

There aren’t just a couple of colours to choose from, there are about 17: rose gold, coral, black, matt silver, tan, aubergine, pale blue, etc., etc. I’d love me a coral or rose gold one too (surprise, surprise)!

Here’s the interior showing the compartments and pockets…

An Ingenious Travel Hand Luggage Bag That Lets You Go Hands-Free: The Mia Tui Jennie Bag | Not Dressed As Lamb, Over 40 Style Blog

It’s large, 40cm wide by 25cm high. Lots of room for my wallet, makeup bag, water bottle, sunglasses, phone, camera, reading glasses, a book, and so on. You can fit a TON of stuff in there. There’s a smaller version, the Mini Jen, if that sounds too big for you.

Mia Tui is a vegan brand. No animal-based products are used throughout the whole range. And they also make cross body bags, backpacks, work bags… not just hand luggage bags. All in multiple colours.

They have great ethics. Mia Tui offer a training programme in Vietnam for the employees in the factory where the products have been made for the last eight years. It provides unskilled employees the opportunity to earn a skill for life.

UK delivery is free over £25. International delivery is £5.99 to everywhere else in the world (SO reasonable)!

Returns are not free, but Mia Tui offers one free exchange on UK orders. I’m always wary of buying from retailers where you have to pay for returns yourself, but it’s not like shoes or clothes that may not fit. I can guarantee you won’t be disappointed with the quality of the bags, so it’s unlikely you’ll want to return anything. They are a small business, so fair enough that they can’t cover the cost of returns.

The (oh-so-reasonable) price (& DISCOUNT CODE!)

And finally: you get all of that for just… £55.00. What the what?! I think that’s INCREDIBLY reasonable.

Moreover, if you use the discount code NDAL15 this will give you 15% off full-price items (do note that it’s not valid when used with any other discount/bundle code). So you could get a Jennie for the even MORE bargainous price of £46.75!

I’ve used my Jennie bag so much – both with a suitcase and without – and it’s been brilliant every time (I swear it’s made from the same stuff they make the Tardis from, I can fit so much in there).

And with that, I’m off to pack my suitcase and Jennie bag for a weekend away with my fitness retreat girlfriends in the Cotswolds (booze and pub grub WILL be allowed, wish me luck). Have a Happy Halloween and a fabulous weekend!

What do you think of this clever design and that “suitcase handle pocket”? Tell me in the comments!

Thank you Catherine for introducing us to this great product! I just bought one (linked from your site of course 🙂 ) and can’t wait for it to arrive. I travel a lot for work and this solves ALL the problems I’ve encountered using a “not quite right bag.” The only hard part of the purchase decision was the colour! So many great options!

Amanda that’s fantastic!! I’m so pleased you loved the bag enough to buy yourself one – you won’t be disappointed, I promise. And thank you for letting me know! xx

Catherine it arrived today and I do love it!! I chose the light blue over the dark grey on the advice of my daughter who said with all the wisdom of 14 years “it’s a neutral Mom!” And she was right of course. I’m in Canada so am pleasantly surprised how quickly it got here … and just in time for my flight to Toronto this week. Thanks again!

Hi Catherine, I ordered the smaller bag (still very roomy) for myself in tan and black for my daughter, arrived in record time to NZ and we are thrilled with them, first outing on a trip to Wellington. Thanks for the heads up. Roswyn

Well your post might have been a three minute read, but then I spent about an hour checking out the Mia tui site… Wow! So much to choose from. I can imagine building quite a collection. If only my luggage had a normal twin pole handle and not a single pole. As another orange lover do you know if the coral is really orange? Looks that way on my screen.

Oh my goodness Cathie, I didn’t think of the Mia Tui rabbit hole you might find yourself going down… I’m so sorry, lol!!! That’s a shame about the pole on your suitcase, maybe you should get a new one to go with your potential Mia Tui purchase 😉

I couldn’t comment on the actual shade of the coral, I think it’d be best if you contacted Mia Tui yourself and ask. What one person might describe as coral, someone else might describe as orange… on screen it definitely doesn’t look tangerine orange to me (it looks like what I’D call coral), but they’re the people to ask. If you email Nici – she’s the lovely lady I was in contact with – I’m sure she’ll help you out: nici@miatui.com xx

Thanks Catherine, no problems, I enjoyed the rabbit hole
I reached out to Nici as you suggested and she kindly sent me more photos. Maybe not as orange as I hoped. Oh well.
Can’t change my one pole luggage as it is orange, and apart from the one pole perfect but the bags are still pretty tempting. And good to hear the feedback from a kiwi so I know no worries getting to my side of the world.
        Cheers
        Cathie

hi Catherine, that’s a great bag! I’m also intrigued by the lovely rosy purple little zipper bag you have inside the big one. It might be for cosmetics or some such…. The color is wonderful. Are you able to share name/brand? Thanks!

Hi Linda – it’s an old makeup bag, I can’t remember where I got it it from I’m afraid (but likely it was from Asos, or New Look?)! It’s actually iridescent so looks many different colours depending on how you’re looking at it… I think it was described as a “mermaid” bag 😉

Here are a few that look like my own, I didn’t know whereabouts you are so some are UK, some are global/US (and please note some of these are affiliate links!):

I finally had time to read your post (my fake boss* isn’t breathing down my neck today) and OMG I SO need/want this bag! Thank you so much for sharing. My flying life just got way easier (not that I jet around that much… yet).

*Fake boss is my new term for the coworker who I share office space with. He has decided that I am his design assistant (well, I kinda let him think that) and he gives me inane busy work if he sees me on Facebook or whatnot – while he is scrolling through whatever on his phone.

I bought a Mia Tui Sarah Lap Top bag about a year ago and haven’t looked back. I travel with it as hand baggage too, use it as a large shopper/tote and as an every day bag…. Best bag I have ever had. It holds all my personal stuff, work papers and laptop, a water bottle and can even fit a change of clothes in there without feeling bulky. The compartments and outside pockets mean I’m never messing about going through security at airports or looking for tickets at train stations etc.

I have three Mia Tui bags, the Jennie was m first and I can’t praise it highly enough. It holds so much! I now never lose my keys thanks to the elasticated key chain, and it’s great to have the outside pocket for easy to reach train tickets. I love the contrast colour lining, and the see through make up bag, and same colour zip bag for extra security….. I could go on and on. Thanks for championing this great little company!
