17 Unmissable Reads, The Best of the Blogosphere (August 2018)

In my Best of the Blogosphere this month I have ways to be popular 1950s style, pyjamas to wear to work, things from our childhoods kids today will never experience, summer cocktail recipes and more!

(In case you’ve not seen these posts before my Unmissable Reads are a monthly round-up of things I’ve seen, watched and liked in the blogosphere that I’m sure you’ll love too.)

Summer slump – what summer slump?! I think this may be one of the best Best of the Blogosphere months EVER because there are so many good reads here (I can’t be tooting my own horn because I didn’t write any of them myself, I just stumbled across them and put them all together for this post)!

So pull up a deck chair, grab a margarita and find the shade of an umbrella to read these fantastic blog posts and videos from around the websicle. We’ll be fast approaching autumn come the next monthly unmissable reads, so make hay while the sun shines and enjoy what I’ve found for your entertainment till then.

THIS. “You got two choices as an influencer: you can either dig people deeper into their illusions, or you could free ’em. After coming to your page, do people walk away better or worse? The question is – what kind of influencer do you want to be?

Ashley found some 1950s Woman magazines in a clearout and listed some of the 99 ways to be popular in 1958 (they’re still relevant today, and I LOVED number 10).

I was so excited about getting a cocktail maker kit for my birthday, so Lauren’s round up of summer cocktail recipes are timely – and look beautiful too.

Lisa is 49 today (happy birthday!), has found her perfect London salon, and has “OMG hair” that will knock you for six.

Is Beyoncé glorifying motherhood with her idyllic, ethereal image of her with her twins? Vicki discusses.

Celeste Barber’s Instagram posts and videos ALWAYS make me laugh, but I nearly choked on my tea laughing at this one (SOUND ON) – I am so glad the car tooted her to add to the LOLs…

An interesting take on the whole blogging as a hobby/as a profession debate: at what point do you start calling blogging your work?

A raspberry pink ruffled maxi on holiday in Porto Santo is my idea of heavenly summer holiday dressing (as Liz proves).

Not being able to use the phone if someone was using the internet. Blockbuster Video. Picking up holiday photos. Just a few of the 31 hilarious things that Amber’s baby will never experience (no. 19 was me. Every. Single. Evening.)

Blair has worn layers of orange upon orange and I’m DYING over it.

Ari Seth Cohen’s blog Advanced Style is 10 years old and he reflects on the glamorous older ladies of New York he’s been documenting for the past decade.

Annette still wears a skirt she first wore 27 years ago and looks amazing in it today.

This was a hard post to read and it made me weep, but Sydne’s account of grieving a pet is something I must bear in mind when the time comes for us to say goodbye to Riley.

I want to wear pyjamas that are good enough to wear to work every day like Mary’s glorious yellow floral set.

A bedroom makeover described as “Jungle Glam”? Oh my goodness, yes please (that mural: I die)!

Georgette looks amazing in just about everything she wears (I’m in love with her colourful style) – her Florida vacay outfits do not disappoint.

Michelle is my secondhand and vintage guru, so when she writes about the new way to shop secondhand, I take notice.

And a few Not Dressed As Lamb posts you perhaps missed first time around:

Why I Won’t Say “Anti-Ageing” From Now On
My Favourite Late Summer Outfits From the Archives and
Like Nothing Else in the Shops: A Blue Patterned Jumpsuit.
