Black Biker Jacket with Magenta Skirt & Tan Boots

Biker jacket, midi skirt & tan boots

When you’re desperate to wear a pretty dress on a casual night out but you’re battling with chilly spring temperatures and the chance of spilling a pint down your front, a full circle skirt with a biker jacket is a practical (but still stylish) alternative.

I went out for drinks with friends the night I wore this, and when you’re frequenting village pubs rather than a smart bar in town, it makes sense to err on the side of practicality with a leather jacket and boots (no skyscraper heels or floaty chiffon in other words). A faux leather biker is perfect for this time of year and I don’t think you can get a better pairing for any dress or skirt – it works every time, adding that touch of toughness and stopping you looking too girly.

A few years ago I would never have thought of this combination myself (leather jacket with a pretty dress? huh?), yet thanks to the power of the interwebs and, of course, Pinterest, the combination pops up all over the place, proving itself to be a classic and winning look. Do you pair up your biker with your dresses and skirts, or are you desperate to try it – do share in the comments!

Love the stylemix, Catherine! So true, a chiffon or a pencil skirt wouldn't work well in the pub 😉
    Your highlights are beautiful!

Catherine I love this look! The leather jacket is a great way to edge up the colourful mid-length skirt and the scarf looks so chic 🙂

    Take care,

Beautiful. I would have been tempted to go with black boots but the tan bookends your hair and just pulls it all together. The magenta is such a lovley colour on you Catherine…stunning.

    • 25 March 2014 / 2:12 pm

I only went the tan boots because I wanted that shape for that skirt – my black boots weren't quite right shape-wise. But now that I see the pictures I think you're right, tan is better! Thank you Deborah x

I think I wear my moto jacket more often with dresses and skirts than with jeans, dear Catherine…the contrast makes things so much more interesting!! The colour of this skirt is divine (quite like the colour of my fateful shoes…but I'm not holding it against either!!) I'm sure you were the best-dressed at your pub evening in this look!! 🙂

    • 25 March 2014 / 2:10 pm

I can imagine magenta would look amazing on you too, Jess!! Thank you x

  9. 24 March 2014 / 11:46 pm

Magenta is definitely a good colour on you. Love how you've styled it with the boots and jacket. Pretty earrings too.

    • 25 March 2014 / 2:09 pm

Thanks Elsie!! You know what – the earrings are unbelievably old… I have no recollection of buying them or anything. Goes to show that I love 'em! x

You *know* I love this silhouette, Catherine! You look fabulous; love the brown boots. xox

That's another wonderful look – Love it. Big shout out for the handbag. It looks a million dollars

  12. 24 March 2014 / 10:40 pm

Love this look! Have you ever done a blog post about your make-up? I love how you do your eyebrows.

    • 25 March 2014 / 11:45 am

I haven't Rachel – I am "known" for my eyebrows (they even have their own Twitter account in fact)! It is something I'm planning to do via YouTube – when I get to grips with the video editing stuff and find the time I will do it! Thank you x

  13. 24 March 2014 / 8:41 pm

I love that you went with brown boots instead of the typical black. Inspired choice.

  14. 24 March 2014 / 7:43 pm

Gorgeous colors on you; this is one of my favorite looks!

    • 25 March 2014 / 11:44 am

Thanks hun – it's quite a "Gracey" skirt I always think, very you!! x

  15. 24 March 2014 / 5:35 pm

Great look and the colour of the skirt is divine.

Love the look! I'm having a little trouble pairing black with brown too. It seems ALMOST anything goes, which gives me more freedom yet often perplexes me. I'm trying hard to be more imaginative!

    • 25 March 2014 / 11:43 am

Just do what I do, Lizzie – don't think about it! Sometimes I look at the photos afterwards and only realise then that an outfit was actually quite coordinated – like here! x

  17. 24 March 2014 / 4:03 pm

Wowwwwwwwwwwwwwww here I am again weak in the knee watching the wonderful YOU wearing a skirt, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
    Just magic
