A Colourful Rainy Day Outfit With Wide Wellies #iwillwearwhatilike

All I can say is hallelujah: I have found gorgeous wellies that fit me.

For a LONG time I’ve had the problem of finding welly boots that are big enough to get over my, let’s say… “sturdy” calves. I’m sure this can’t be an isolated problem: who else finds that once you’ve put on some skinny jeans and pulled up your chunky socks you’re just fighting with your wellies to see who wins the Calf-Wellington War?

In my case, the calves have lost. Every. Single. Time. And the wellies end up unloved and unworn, only to wait until I’m wearing them with a long skirt and tights, or I’ve lost a LOT of weight (and right now this ain’t happening any time soon).

Only about a week before my welly woes dissipated, Keith asked me before a rainy walk with Riley: “Do you want your wellies?” And the answer was “No thanks, I’ll never get them on…” (cue a few sobs and self-loathing at the fact that the extra pounds I’m carrying all go straight to my calves and thighs).

But the Welly Boot Gods must have heard my pity party, because I was contacted by a FANTASTIC British company called The Wide Welly Company who offered me a pair of their (you guessed it!) wide wellies.

Imagine a little happy dance round my kitchen…

Disclosure: I was gifted these wellies by Wide Welly Co but was not paid for writing this post or obliged to feature them (click here for my full disclosure)The post contains affiliate links which means if you click through and buy I may receive a small commission at no cost to you. Any items listed as* were gifted within the last 12 months.

The result? Life changed.

(Well, life changed to the extent it can be when you’ve found you can wear wellies comfortably again.)

So, accepted under no obligation from the company, these superb, colourful striped wide wellies* are a bloody GODSEND. Made to be (as they describe) “snug in the foot, flexible in the calf”, they are ideal for anyone who either finds standard wellies too tight in the calf, OR those who want a bit more room for jeans, socks, etc.

The adjustable strap means you can have a LOT more room, should you need it.

I love everything about The Wide Welly Co: they’re a small, family-run business, the boots are all assembled by hand, and the quality is superb. Delivery is free to the UK. They come in several patterns and they come with a 12-month guarantee.

They’re also flippin’ comfortable AND super stylish (don’t you just love these pink and red stripes?!).

If you have the same problem as me – or you just want something looser to tuck in four pairs of chunky socks and skinny jeans – then look no further, this is you SORTED.

And now that I’ve waxed lyrical about my new wellies(!), here’s a bit of blurb about the whole outfit…

Regular readers may recognise the blue floral trench coat – it’s appeared on the blog many times over the years; in fact, if you scroll down you can see 5 different ways I’ve styled it.

If I’ve tempted you to buy either a blue or a floral trench (or a blue floral trench), then you’ll also find some SS19 alternatives I’ve found.

As the wellies are red and pink and the trench is a bright, pale blue I thought I should wear my tomato red Finery sweater, throw on indigo jeans (the JD Williams eco-made jeans*) and avoid yet MORE colour by taking my clear, LED umbrella. This was last seen in May last year at the Blade Runner Secret Cinema event we went to – I can’t recommend a clear umbrella for a rainy day photo shoot enough… no dark shadows over your face!

(I recommend it for nighttime more, however: press the button to light it up and do your best Luke Skywalker impression. No rain required…)

Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured in my bi-monthly Women Who Wear What They Like post!

DO YOU HAVE WELLY WOES? WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THESE WIDE WELLIES? TELL ME IN THE COMMENTS…!

5 ways to wear a blue floral trench coat…

I thought I’d show you the other times I’ve worn this trench coat on the blog so you can see the different ways it can be styled (and just how versatile a coloured, floral trench can be – you don’t HAVE to go for a classic beige colour)!

Let me know in the comments if this is something you’d like to see more often with items on repeat…

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Click here to receive an email reminder for the next #iwillwearwhatilike link up as soon as it’s live!

PLEASE NOTE: This is for linking up WHAT YOU’VE BEEN WEARING ONLY. Non-outfit links will be removed and you might be blocked if you turn out to be a repeat “offender” (and no one wants that, do they…)!
