How to Dress For Spring Sightseeing in London’s Holland Park #iwillwearwhatilike

This photo shoot very nearly didn’t see the light of day: Ever deleted a whole bunch of photos off your memory card unknowingly or by accident? No? Just me then…

Before I explain what happened, I will just put the location and outfit into context: These photos were taken when we did a bit of sightseeing in London’s Holland Park, somewhere neither Keith nor I had ever been before. It was the day after the UK Blog Awards, so we wanted a gentle, easy day out. We’ve done most of the royal parks (Hyde Park, Kensington Gardens, Green Park, Greenwich Park, etc.), but never Holland Park.

I wore something that was perfect for a spring day (sunny with just a hint of chill in the air) – a trouser suit and orange sweater with coordinating pink sneakers. My hair was still wavy/messy from the hairstyle I did to go with my lucky red gown. Comfy, warm but not hot, bright and super-colourful. All very me.

So, onto the reason for the major memory card cock up (now known as Memory Cardgate)…

SHOP THE LOOK:

I’d planned to edit these photos and publish them a week or two ago, and all was good until I went to upload them from the memory card onto the computer. They weren’t on the memory card – only the photos of my preppy dog walking outfit from the day before were on there.

No panic, they were probably on another memory card. We have two DSLRs that we use plus my Olympus Pen, so we would have either used a different camera or swapped memory cards.

The pictures from this shoot were absolutely, definitely, without a SHADOW of a doubt not on any of our memory cards. To say I went into a slight panic is an understatement… If it were a shoot we’d done down the road I could have reshot (reshooted?!) no problem, but when you know the photos were in a beautiful location where the location is as important as the outfit (and somewhat more beautiful, to be honest) then it’s time to go full-on panic stations.

Now before any of you stating tutting and thinking, Well she really shouldn’t delete them until she’s absolutely sure! – I couldn’t agree with you more. When we start a shoot, Keith shows me what’s on the card, and if the photos are already on the blog they get deleted. If not they stay, even if I’m pretty certain I’ve already uploaded them.

But this is the thing: NEITHER of us have any recollection of looking at them on the camera, not since looking at them as we went along during the shoot. So how they got deleted I have no idea – and it’s still bugging us to this day.

So you’re probably wondering how come the pictures are here if they were 100% definitely deleted, aren’t you…!

Well this is where having a close blogging group comes into play: As many of you know I’m part of the Over40Collective, and (like many close groups of friends) we have a WhatsApp group. My “news” that day was OMG my day is going so badly, I’ve wiped a fantastic London photo shoot off my memory card by accident.

All I can is thank GOD for my Instagram Wives – Annette suggested that I look for software to recover the photos. And like that, something I didn’t even know existed came into my world like a knight on shining armour. (Well, I tried the free software and it only recovered the last 20 or so, so I bit the bullet and paid about £63 for the full version. Well worth it though.)

So the moral of the story is: Don’t EVER delete photos off a memory card until you know the photos have been published/printed/emailed/archived or whatever else you’re doing with them. And if you’re like me and my husband and seem to have gone into some time lapse continuum where you deleted them off, then drop me an email and I’ll happily use my software if you want to mail me your memory card.

Or, don’t drink and delete, kids!! 😜

Holland Park – the sights

If you’re in west London then do not miss a trip to Holland Park – as you will see from the pictures there are some beautiful buildings and areas as well as trees, shrubs and flowers. We went to Kyoto Garden (a stunning Japanese garden) too but it was so full of tourists it was pointless taking any photos there. You might like to see a few lovely houses along the edge of the park too…!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
