What to Wear With a Pink Coatigan | Winser London

The 80s called, Krystle Carrington wants her look back. Or so I thought when I looked in the mirror at this outfit…

(which, by the way, I absolutely love. More on that in a bit). In fact I’m so enamoured with this ever-so-slightly 80s look that it makes me want to go out and get a huge pair of shoulder pads, dump a whole can of hairspray on my head and start practising my best breathy Krystle voice. Feel free to use the comments section to say how excited you also are at the news that Dynasty is returning. Shoulder pads and red fingernails (to scratch out Alexis’s eyes) at the ready.

What I’m actually wearing (and not really intending to “Dynastify”) is a stunning pale pink Winser London Milano wool coat from their new AW16 collection. (I’m calling it a coatigan though, because it’s beautifully crafted from a floppy unlined knitted wool. And if it’s floppy, it’s a cardigan. But if it’s smart enough and thick enough for outerwear then it’s a coat. Thank goodness someone portmanteaued those two to make coatigan.)

Anyway, yes – you may remember that I wrote about this British brand in May, when I wore their camel wide leg trousers and a pale pink sweater (I seem to like their pink clothes). That was a collaborative post with the other members of the Over 40 Collective, and we’re doing the same again for Autumn/Winter.

I’ve actually done something very daring for me – I’ve donned head-to-toe black. Well, I know it’s not totally black – that pale pink coat does cover most of it – but I rarely do a black top and black bottoms.

I’m wondering whether it’s the influence of the rest of the collective (see below) that’s rubbing off on me, or whether it’s because it makes me feel all grown up. I like the look of all black on others, but I put it on and feel like I’m on my way to the morgue. They say it can be very draining on your face as you get older, and without make up I don’t have the rosiest of complexions.

So this is the nearest I get: Black and white polka dot top, black trousers and pink everything else. (That’s my kind of daring.) It was nicely finished off with the very popular tortoiseshell handbag I debuted last week and the pink glittery block heels (see these).

In our previous Winser collaboration I mentioned the quality of Winser clothing – it’s true it’s not the cheapest of brands, but the old adage about “you get what you pay for” is so true here. I wanted a longline coat/blazer/cardigan (see how much easier “coatigan” is?) in another colour as I wear my camel one to death every spring and autumn, and I can see myself wearing this a lot when I need something to throw on over all my other usual colours.

Because pale pink’s a neutral, isn’t it? Isn’t it…?

The Over 40 Collective

The Over 40 Collective (O40Co) is a group of European bloggers in their 40s and 50s working collectively for women of a similar age to prove that style doesn’t have to stop at 40. Our aim is to work with all brands who want to spread this message, not just those specifically aimed at an older demographic. The fact that we all have such different styles proves that the “rules” for dressing over a certain age are utter nonsense – we dress to suit our personalities and then our shapes, and not at all “for our age”.

The close friendship and support system that we have created through daily contact online and meetings in person have resulted in what we think is an incredibly exciting and progressive blogger collaboration.
