Valentine’s Day Gifts and Outfit Ideas (Plus Some Anti-Valentine’s Ideas)

So Valentine’s Day is just 11 days away, and now is the time to think about what gifts you’re going to get him, what gifts you’d like for yourself, and what outfit you’re going to wear on the day (if you’re going out, that is)! My Valentine’s Day gift guide and outfit ideas have you covered – whether you love it or hate it, there’s something for everyone here!

I’ve included three outfits, one a little quirky and one classic, but both “very Valentine’s”. And if you’re looking for something for the 14th but want it to be a little more subtle, I’ve got a great going-out look for you that doesn’t scream red and pink or everything hearts!

The gift guide has things for her and things for him, but who’s to say you have to drop hints – there’s no reason why you can’t get any of these things for yourself? But if you’re super-against Valentine’s Day or are single right now, there are lots of things for those who don’t want celebrate with hearts and flowers: Again, it’s time to treat yo’ self, ladies!

IF YOU’RE SUPER-AGAINST VALENTINE’S DAY OR ARE SINGLE RIGHT NOW, THERE ARE LOTS OF THINGS FOR THOSE WHO DON’T WANT CELEBRATE WITH HEARTS AND FLOWERS: IT’S TIME TO TREAT YO’ SELF, LADIES

Don’t forget 2016 is a leap year so you are, as tradition has it, “allowed” to propose to your man on 29th February – little known fact but I actually proposed to my husband! On Valentine’s Day itself I’ll publish a post telling the story of how and why (mine wasn’t a Leap Year proposal however)…!

Finally: If you’re really stuck about what to do for Valentine’s Day and don’t want to venture out into the cold, just stay in and drape yourself in this giant red bow. I’m sure he’ll appreciate it 😉

Are any of these gifts or outfits speaking to you – if so, which ones? Are do you “do” Valentine’s Day, or not? Tell me in the comments or tweet me @notlamb!

1. Sweater | 2. Trousers | 3. Clutch | 4. Earrings | 5. Boots

I love this outfit – it’s grown up and elegant with the merest hints of Valentine motifs on the sweater: A few white hearts, and just one red. Go for blacks, browns and other neutrals as an alternative to all the red and pink you’ll see on the day, and don’t forget some pretty gold heart earrings (you are, of course, allowed any jewellery that says Valentine’s).

1. Dress | 2. Bag3. Heels | 4. Dress | 5. Earrings | 6. 6. Belt | 7. Bracelet 8. Clutch | 9. 9. Heels

I couldn’t decide between these two dresses, so I included them both. The skater-style hearts dress is full-on Valentine’s but I added patterned heels for some great pattern mixing (plus who doesn’t want that Moschino bag)? The red midi dress is an absolute classic – it’s a close match for the red dress I wore on Christmas Day, and in this style and length you’ve got yourself a classic LRD (little red dress) that will last for years. The strappy black heels, bow belt and lips clutch (similar to the Lulu Guinness one but a steal at less than £65!) add all the romantic elements a Valentine’s Day outfit needs.

1. Watch | 2. Choker | 3. Earrings | 4. Socks | 5. Robe | 6. iPhone 6/6s case | 7. Personalised monogram keyring (this takes a week so order straight away) | 8. Lipstick | 9. Hot water bottle

Whether it’s Valentine’s Day or not, all these items make great gifts for yourself, for a girlfriend / your sister / your mum, or as things to drop hints about!

1. Star Wars ‘Rebel Alliance Emblem’ cufflinks | 2. Cufflinks | 3. Trunks | 4. Tie | 5. Mug | 6. Stackable box of candy

Although men can be difficult to buy for, retailers do get quite creative for Valentine’s Day with plenty of motif ties and underwear as well as mugs with messages of love on them. If you want to really score points with a Star Wars fan, these red ‘Rebel Alliance’ emblem cufflinks are sure to win him over. And if all else fails, just buy some heart-shaped sweets – job done.

1. ‘Mould Your Own Dream Boyfriend’ kit | 2. Two-pack t-shirts | 3. Mirror | 4. T-shirt | 5. Gold charm | 6. Steve McQueen book | 7. Travel wallet & luggage tag

I think I’ve saved the best for last: The anti-Valentine’s Day gifts. Asos have lots of anti-boyfriend / anti-love t-shirts like the “All You Need Is Love Vodka” one here, as well as a kit to mould your own boyfriend. The best thing though? The Steve McQueen book – I gave this to my sister for Christmas, and we didn’t put it down all day… The book is all pictures of that bad boy (hardly any writing). Now that’s what I call a great (anti) Valentine’s gift…!!
