Ad | A Classic Black and Gold Watch With Ethical, Sustainable Credentials

I’ll get straight to the point: who doesn’t love a classic watch for Christmas?

As far as beautiful, timeless watches go, they don’t get much more beautiful or more classic than this black and gold beauty from Danish watch brand Nordgreen – a brand I was very excited to discover and feature in my alternative Black Friday gift guide for 2020.

Their ethics and sustainable credentials meant their space in my list was well deserved, a list I’m VERY fussy about when compiling it every November.

And as the Danes are known for their classic style (anyone who’s ever longed for a Jacobsen Egg chair will know what I mean!), it makes sense that they’d make beautiful timepieces. Ones that won’t date, will go with everything in your wardrobe and will {quietly} scream quality.

Their name Nordgreen even alludes to their Scandinavian and Green credentials: “Nord” for their Nordic identity, and “Green” to embody their commitment to the environment.

Basically, I’m a sucker for a beautiful watch.

(AND a discount, which I’ve included at the end of the post!)

I’ve had a hankering for a watch with a dark dial for a while, so when Nordgreen asked me to choose a watch to review I thought, Gold strap [to go with the gold jewellery I’m currently obsessing over] and a black dial.

The additional things that Nordgreen offer – aside from the ethical values and sustainability which I’ll talk about in a bit – are spare watch straps in different styles, finishes and colours.

It doesn’t end there: it actually has to start with your chosen face style (there are four aimed at men, five for women) in the metal colour and dial colour of your choosing. All these options mean you can practically design your watch yourself; I chose/designed the Nordgreen Christopher – Philosopher Face with Black Dial in Mesh:

  • Style: Philosopher (I like seeing all the minutes marked on a watch face)
  • Dial colour: Black
  • Size: 36mm (the smaller size, I have tiny wrists)
  • Strap style: Metal mesh
  • Strap colour: Gold
  • Additional strap: Olive Green nylon (to go with all the olive green I’m wearing right now)

Above: my Philosopher watch with spare strap in its beautiful box (100% sustainable packaging, with felt made from up-cycled plastic bottles)

The perfect gift for him OR her

With all those options it makes a wonderful gift for anyone, whether that be for Christmas, a wedding, an anniversary or a birthday. Or just to show someone your appreciation.

These watches don’t date. Whatever trends may be around for jewellery or watches, you simply can’t go wrong with this kind of minimal design. It suits all genders, all ages and any kind of personal style preference.

On top of all that delicious design, you’ll be making a conscious decision to buy from a brand that cares about the world we live in. As a brand, Nordgreen…

  • Are carbon neutral: Nordgreen plants thousands of trees every year to offset carbon emissions
  • Uses sustainable packaging made of FSC-certified cartons and up-cycled plastic bottles
  • Boasts responsible manufacturing, ensuring all production facilities’ environments and employees’ rights to the highest standard by partnering with Danish facilities abroad
  • Has a giving back programme: Partnering with three NGOs (Non-Governmental Organisation, a not-for-profit, voluntary citizens’ group), they donated two months of clean water, two months of education and saved 200sqft of rainforest in 2019
  • Offers vegan leather straps

My own watch is a limited edition design, made in partnership with World Child Cancer which promotes the equal right of all children to healthcare and cancer treatment. With each watch sold, a child with cancer within developing countries will receive a round of chemotherapy. #AllTheFeels

The watches aren’t cheap (mine is £179), but quality like this is 100% worth it as an investment. And as we’re all hopefully moving further and further away from fast fashion and more and more towards investment shopping, rewearing our wardrobes and shopping secondhand/vintage  to try and do our bit towards healing the planet, this is the sort of watch to last you (or a loved one) a lifetime.

You know when you see movies when the son has inherited their dad’s watch (Pulp Fiction comes to mind…)? THIS is the sort of watch that you’d do that with. Except it doesn’t have to just be a father passing it to his son; it could be a mother passing it to her daughter, an uncle to a niece, or anyone passing it down to a loved one, regardless of age or gender. That’s the beauty of a watch like this: it’s a classic, pure and simple.

15% discount for Not Dressed As Lamb readers (plus how you can help Nordgreen make a charity donation)

If a classic, Danish watch from Nordgreen is right up your street, you can use my special discount code ‘NOTLAMB’ to claim 15% off this December. Nordgreen are currently offering 20% off on bundles (a watch with up to two spare straps of your choice) – my discount code will take an additional 15% off it, which makes a watch bundle a very good deal for Christmas.

And it doesn’t end there! Every Christmas order donates a present to a child in refuge, and you can claim a free  strap. Use code ‘KIDS’ at the checkout to join Nordgreen’s holiday-special charity and you’ll receive a strap for free as a token of their gratitude.

It just begs the question… how on earth to choose?!

What are your thoughts on classic watches – have you thought about giving one this year as a gift (or even asking for one!)? Tell me in the comments…

Stay safe XOXO
