After wearing my purple suede platform boots after a long absence from my feet (and loving it), it got me thinking about just how fabulous proper platform boots are. You know the ones – the super high, mega chunky Elton John-style boots your older cousin wore when he was 22 in 1974? Or is that just me…
This outfit started with the croc platform boots and went from there. I spotted them recently in the Asos sale and got WAY too excited about them (not just because of the style but also because they were half price). I’d been wanting to get a pair of brown heeled boots for a while but really didn’t know what style to get: enter these true 70s-style beauties.
SHOP THE LOOK:
I knew that I wanted to wear them with my cropped check trousers (the focus of this week’s 4 Ways to Wear, below).
I knew that I wanted something patterned on top to clash with the trousers.
I knew that I wanted to make this the outfit I (hopefully) wear this week as I have to go to London tomorrow for a photoshoot.
(I haven’t yet decided if the boots will be okay walking around and getting to and from the location, but they’re incredibly comfy and actually not all that high if you take into account how thick the sole is. Also, if you love my floral shirt with the contrasting collar and cuffs and necktie you might love this wildly patterned shirt with a contrasting tie and cuffs.)
I’m just hoping that it’ll be mild enough for me to wear my aeons-old olive green mac (similar). It’ll most likely be wet, let’s just hope not freezing cold as well. I know this mac is the best part of 20 years old as I bought it in the sales in Selfridges when I was still working in London… I left London in 2002. If that’s not what you call an investment I don’t know what is!
P.S. I am FULLY aware that I look like some sort of French super sleuth TV character. I think I was subconsciously inspired by Blake Lively’s incredible wardrobe in A Simple Favor which I saw recently… have you seen it? It was one of those so-much-better-than-it-looks movies. I recommend.
P.P.S. I won’t actually go out with my coat draped over my shoulders like this, it’s just that the lovely details of the blouse would have been covered up had I put it on properly for the photos. And it was cold and I was too much of a wuss to take the coat off.
P.P.P.S. Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured in my bi-monthly Women Who Wear What They Like post!

✷ ✷ ✷ ✷ ✷
This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
CLICK HERE to read the rules of linking up (and to grab the #iwillwearwhatilike button). Basically it’s just good manners to link back to here – to leave a comment is even nicer!

PLEASE NOTE: This is for linking up WHAT YOU’VE BEEN WEARING ONLY. Non-outfit links will be removed! Also: by linking up you’re saying it’s okay for me to drop you an email to say the link up is open – you can unsubscribe at any time.
