This time with that all-time classic pattern mixing combo: stripes and checks (or stripes and plaid for my US friends)!
It’s one of those outfits that has “a lot going on” as my mum would say, and that suits me just fine. I’m rarely one for minimalism. I won’t just stop at pattern mixing, I’ll throw in extra textures and colours for good measure.
This weekend was Remembrance Sunday and I wear my poppy brooch every year during the week leading up to Armistice Day. I wanted it to show up so opted for the olive longline jacket that I’ve worn several times before on the blog – scroll down to see all the ways I’ve styled it.
Disclosure: I was gifted the beret by Helen Moore under no obligation (all content is original and opinions are 100% honest). This blog uses affiliate links (at no cost to you). Full disclosure
SHOP THE LOOK:
I did actually buy a couple of new pieces from Asos last week and they are the striped sweater (so popular it sold out already) and the check trousers. They’re the perfect fit for me: peg leg, tapered or carrot-shaped – call them what you will. As I have a small waist and big hips I often find slim fit trousers are too big in the waist or too small in the hips and thighs, so this style fits and flatters my hourglass shape.
It wasn’t my intention to wear the stripes and checks of the sweater and trousers together, but it’s a bold combination that of course I’m drawn to.
Accessories included a couple of splashes of colour in my (VERY old) coral-orange brogues and sunglasses, plus a faux fur pom pom beret* kindly gifted to me by faux fur experts Helen Moore. They specialise in the most beautiful faux fur accessories in a huge range of colours, PLUS they’re a brand local to me so I’m very happy to support them. Look out for them in my annual Christmas gift guide post where I highlight indie sellers rather than high street retailers…!
Have I tempted you to consider a long green coat? How about a bit of winter pattern mixing, or are you going to check out Helen Moore for faux fur accessories? Tell me in the comments…
P.S. Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured in my bi-monthly Women Who Wear What They Like post (this Sunday)!

This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!
The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
CLICK HERE to read the rules of linking up (and to grab the #iwillwearwhatilike button). Basically it’s just good manners to link back to here – to leave a comment is even nicer!

PLEASE NOTE: This is for linking up WHAT YOU’VE BEEN WEARING ONLY. Non-outfit links will be removed! Also: by linking up you’re saying it’s okay for me to drop you an email to say the link up is open – you can unsubscribe at any time.
