Why You Should Try Orange, Green and White (and Marmite Shoes) #iwillwearwhatilike

Looking pretty much like the Irish flag this weekend, I wore an orange, green and white combination I’ve been wanting to try for ages.

Not only does Ireland have this delicious colour combination on their flag but so do India, Niger and the Ivory Coast. These countries have made some seriously bold colour choices, and seem to know what they’re doing when it comes to putting fabulous colours together (of course!)

The reason that I went for these specific colours was not due to a burgeoning interest in vexillology [the study of flags, I’ll admit I looked it up…], but instead something MUCH more arbitrary. We’d had a lot of washing on the line and included were these green trousers, the tangerine orange sweater and all our white towels.

(Don’t worry, I didn’t mix my coloureds and whites, we did more than one wash. I got you worried there, I know.)

We brought the dry washing in and (as you do) threw them over the armchair – my eyes fell onto the trousers, sweater and towels next to each other. I thought WOW I love that colour combination! I neeeeeed to wear orange, green and white PRONTO.

That all sounds very fortuitous – and somewhat made up for the purposes of this post – but I swear, that IS what happened…!

If you’ve followed my blog for a while you’ll recognise this jacket – it’s been worn countless times. (I’m not sure I’ll ever get sick of it, to be honest.) I always get so many people asking where it’s from, and sadly it’s many years old: I did see an ivory windowpane check jacket which is a pretty good match, otherwise similar jackets are hard to come by!

(Scroll down for an “all the ways I’ve styled it on the blog” roundup.)

The sweater was an impulse supermarket purchase – seems NO ONE wanted this colour if the on-sale price tag of £4 was anything to go by. This tangerine knit is a dead ringer and probably really good quality.

The green trousers are pretty unusual for me in that they’re not orange, yellow, pink or red – or any other warm colour. Despite being on the cold end of the colour spectrum I do wear these trews every now and then (these are similar), but the best bit is that they’re elasticated at the back, so great for parties and eating out. It was my dad’s 90th birthday at the weekend and the food baby I acquired at his party thanked me later for the joy that was the elasticated waistband.

I’ve featured lots more green trousers you might like at the end of the photos – there are so many gorgeous shades of green I’m pretty tempted myself…!

And finally I must address the elephant in the room… the white slider sandals. The Brits among you will know what I meant in the post title by “Marmite” shoes: basically you’ll either love them or you’ll hate them.

(Marmite is a VERY British spread – made of yeast – that goes on toast, and even the advertising slogan plays on the fact that everyone loves it or hates it. ANYONE who eats this heinous devil’s food should be quarantined for at least 24 hours in case they breathe their venomous breath on any unsuspecting Marmite haters. And that’s all I have to say about that.)

Unlike Marmite, I actually LOVE these sandals. For a start, they’re from Office – who make quality shoes – and they were reduced to a ridiculous £15. Like the tangerine sweater, it works in my favour that I love the things everyone else seems to hate…! They’re incredibly comfy, they make my legs look longer without any high heels and yes, they’re pretty ugly (my Sindy doll had an EXACT pair in the 1970s), but who’s to say ugly can’t be fabulous?!

So I urge you to try this happy, springlike combination of orange, green and white – AS WELL as something off the sale rack that no one else wants. At least you won’t end up looking like everyone else…

Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured in my bi-monthly Women Who Wear What They Like post!

5 ways to wear a black and white check jacket…

I thought I’d show you the other times I’ve worn this black and white windowpane check jacket on the blog so you can see the different ways it can be styled (and why I love it so much)!

The other times I wore the windowpane check jacket as shown above: left is today’s post / top middle / top right / bottom middle / bottom right.

You’d think I have one yellow sweater that I wear all the time, but no – they’re three different ones in varying shades of yellow/orange…!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Click here to receive an email reminder for the next #iwillwearwhatilike link up as soon as it’s live!

PLEASE NOTE: This is for linking up WHAT YOU’VE BEEN WEARING ONLY. Non-outfit links will be removed and you might be blocked if you turn out to be a repeat “offender” (and no one wants that, do they…)!
