How to Layer a Jumpsuit in Spring (Plus a Touch of the Elton John) #iwillwearwhatilike

It may seem an unlikely candidate for such an accolade, but a floral jumpsuit can be one of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe.

Everything in this outfit – with the exception of the sunglasses which I’ll talk about in a sec – has been worn and seen on the blog before. Some of the items (most of the items?) have been worn and seen many, MANY times.

I think sustainability, buying secondhand/vintage and re-wearing your wardrobe is going the be THE topic for 2019, and quite rightly so. So many bloggers I know and respect are dialling up their eco-attitude, and I’m thinking of writing a featured bloggers post about eco-warrior fashion bloggers – let me know in the comments if you like the idea of seeing a list of those who shop their closets, buy secondhand and care about where their clothes come from… I think it could be a great post.

Anyway, I digress! Floral jumpsuits are what we’re talking about today. I’ve worn this jumpsuit many times, and you can see how I styled it to wear to a wedding last year and in its pared-down, throw-it-on-and-add-heels state the year before. I am SO relieved it’s now spring (I go by meteorological spring, to me if it’s March that means sayonara, winter), so call me obvious but on the first day of the new season I broke out my favourite floral jumpsuit when I was up in London last week.

SHOP THE LOOK:

We may have had an unseasonably warm February in the UK (t-shirt weather some days?!) but that doesn’t mean it’ll last… layering is key at this time of year. I think that The Saviour of Layering – the piece that’ll work hard for you whenever you need an extra bit of insulation – is the roll neck sweater, preferably white, but a bold colour works well too. Put them under jumpsuits, dresses, blouses, loose t-shirts… the list goes on. That little touch of the 1970s is ALWAYS stylish.

And finally – the Elton John sunglasses. In 2017 I looked for a pair of square sunnies I could DIY Gucci-style with the gradient colour glitter, but I could never find quite the right shaped pair. Then whilst browsing for [I don’t actually know what] on Amazon, up pops this Gucci copy in the warmer colours I really wanted.

To be honest they’re a bit theatrical and over-the-top, and the huge square shape TOTALLY reminded me of a 1970s Elton John. The glitter in this pair is more of a subtle sparkle (see the close-up shot below), but I’m not complaining. I love them, they make me smile – I couldn’t resist!

Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured in my bi-monthly Women Who Wear What They Like post (the next one will be published on Wednesday 13th March).

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Tuesday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only prerequisite is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Click here to receive an email reminder for the next #iwillwearwhatilike link up as soon as it’s live!

Linking up etiquette…

CLICK HERE to read the rules of linking up (and to grab the #iwillwearwhatilike button). Basically it’s just good manners to link back to here – to leave a comment is even nicer!

PLEASE NOTE: This is for linking up WHAT YOU’VE BEEN WEARING ONLY. Non-outfit links will be removed and you might be blocked if you turn out to be a repeat “offender” (and no one wants that, do they…)!
