Pattern Mixed Checks With Orange and Yellow in Autumn #iwillwearwhatilike

All my blazers and jackets are in full rotation now – I’m going to enjoy this brief period of not yet having to wear a parka or puffa coat while I can…!

I talked about it finally being blazer weather a couple of weeks ago, but then we had a brief, glorious Indian summer (we even had a couple of days so warm last week I had the doors and windows open all day). I’m STILL in the process of trying to find my clothes from different storage boxes and locations around the house – we’re still without wardrobes after our house move in the summer. But they’re next on the list; I foresee a trip to Ikea this weekend…!

I’ve reverted to my fave colours of orange and yellow for this outfit and paired a few new items with some old ones.

SHOP THE LOOK:

What WOULD I do without my orange leather tote bag from Hobbs? This bag has been used to death and I’m not going to give it up anytime soon. It goes with just about EVERYTHING I wear. When I kept just a couple of bags for use over the summer during the house move this was the main one I kept out and I’m so thankful I did. When the time comes for this bag to give up the ghost I might just have to replace it with a similar orange one (like this one for example). Better than any black bag, it adds that punch of colour I need in all outfits I wear.

And talking of colour:

The mustard yellow sweater is new, and along with the tortoiseshells earrings (don’t they go beautifully together?) were kindly gifted by Next for an upcoming campaign. You’ll see them again soon so keep an eye out for them styled with some gorgeous heels and a jaw-droppingly fabulous coat.

Finally, onto to this week’s pattern mixing (I seem to mix patterns in every outfit I wear so hence me saying “this week’s”): Checks on checks, or plaid on plaid. Or to be really technical, windowpane check on Prince of Wales check. As the “rule” with pattern mixing goes, make sure at least one colour runs through both patterns. In this case it’s black, so it’s an easy one. To be fair the check of the trousers are such a small pattern I don’t really count it as a pattern at all…!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at around 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!

Linking up etiquette…

CLICK HERE to read the rules of linking up (and to grab the #iwillwearwhatilike button). Basically it’s just good manners to link back to here – to leave a comment is even nicer!

PLEASE NOTE: This is for linking up WHAT YOU’VE BEEN WEARING ONLY. Non-outfit links will be removed and you might be blocked if you turn out to be a repeat “offender”! Do share the love and visit as many links as you can (you never know what other lovely like-minded ladies you might meet) – the original Instagram campaign forged some wonderful new friendships so don’t miss out.

Want to receive an email reminder for the next link up?

Please note that due to the new GDPR laws I’m unable to send an email reminder unless you subscribe to the mailing list of your own accord. CLICK HERE if you wish to be sent an email with a reminder to link up to the #iwillwearwhatilike link up as soon as it’s live!
