Yes, You Can Wear Pink With Red Hair (Especially in Summer) #iwillwearwhatilike

Turns out you CAN wear pink with red hair, but then I knew that already…!

For me, pink is the ULTIMATE colour to wear with red hair. I just don’t know where anyone got the idea that redheads shouldn’t wear pink (or red, for that matter) – must have been someone with absolutely no idea how to put colours together. Of course certain shades of pink will suit certain shades of red more than others, but a blanket ban? That someone was talking crazy!

I mean, just LOOK at how my copper barnet is complemented by candy pink (sorry for the shameless brag but I couldn’t stop admiring the colour combination this weekend!) – they’re close on the colour wheel and have the same warm undertones. I was fresh out of the hairdressers on the day we took these shots, and just by chance I wore the pink t-shirt. I say “by chance” – these days with our belongings getting packed up for our (still imminent, grrrr) house move, I don’t have access to all that many clothes now. The t-shirt was clean, the trousers were clean, they were both cool enough for another hot English summer’s day, and the pink tee picked out the pink in the palm print. All criteria met.

SHOP THE LOOK:

In fact, when my hair was being blow-dried I noticed just how much more vibrant the new colour looked next to the pink (I may also have asked my hairdresser to MAKE IT BRIGHT AGAIN – I’d started to long for the bright copper colour I had a couple of years ago). It also may or may not have prompted me to look at other pink tops or dresses I could buy simply to show off my hair colour. I go through phases of shopping; I have long periods when I’m not inspired to get anything new. Other times though, my wallet recoils in horror when I approach because it’s thinking, NO, NOT AGAIN! LEAVE ME IN PEACE, WOMAN!!

However this time there’s nothing new in this outfit: I shopped my wardrobe like a good blogger of the slow fashion variety. (Though I’m not sure the pink t-shirt has appeared on the blog before, even though I’ve had it ages.) I still adore the brown and pink palm print culottes I bought last year with the matching co-ord top, and earlier this year I proved they would work in winter as well as summer. I’m getting my money’s worth and my thin-on-the-ground ‘year-round wardrobe’ is thanking me for it.

Like other looks I’ve featured recently it’s the accessories that have made a simple outfit a little more special: I love the patterns and textures of the spike bracelet (remember how practically ALL jewellery was spikey a few years ago?!), the pearl-effect sunglasses (see these) and the fabulous, light-as-a-feather Toolally earrings. I’m finding it’s too hot for chunky necklaces RN so I’m going to town on statement earrings or delicate necklaces this summer.

Finally: Unfortunately I broke the cycle of summer dresses, I know! But fear not, the next outfit post will definitely be another dress as we’ve shot it already. So these culottes were a minor blip in my quest to wear nothing but dresses all summer long. I’ll be back on the Get Yer Legs Out For The Heat track soon enough 😉
