How to Add Interest to an Outfit With Pattern and Texture #iwillwearwhatilike

Last week I showed you what I wore to the Olympic Park to watch the World Para Athletics Championships at the Olympic Park and Stadium, this week I’m showing you the second outfit I wore on day two of our London trip. I needed something comfortable as well as bold and breezy…!

I also must say thank you SO much for all the lovely birthday wishes after publishing my birthday and blogiversary post yesterday – in the end, we didn’t go out and celebrate as such. My parents are moving house this week and we realised getting their house and garden packed was far more important (there was more to do still than we originally thought). But it’s okay, we’ll celebrate my birthday with our dog-friendly pub lunch either this weekend or sometime very soon.

As I’m such a fan of birthdays I’m happy to extend the celebrations – it was still nice spending it with my family, despite me looking like a hot, dirty mess all day (sorting and packing a large house that’s been lived in for nearly 25 years is HARD work)…!

The outfit: Some of you may recognise the pattern of the trousers – they’re the matching pair to the pyjama-style top I last wore under my long check jacket in May when it was still somewhat chilly. I’d always wanted the whole co-ords set but the trousers had long since sold out when I bought the top last year. It seemed a pair miraculously turned up in my size AND on sale… What are the chances?!

However, they’re now sold out again but I’ve linked to some great alternatives below.

SHOP THE LOOK:

Wide leg pants, palazzo pants, pyjama (style) bottoms – whatever you call them they’re still very much on trend and I’m a huge fan. They are so nice and loose and easy to wear, and the perfect shoe (in my eyes) to wear with them is your classic white Stan Smiths. Comfort clothes don’t get any comfier than this.

It was a very warm day at the park, not over sunny but bright and humid. So I wore a cotton vest top under my white lace top (last seen here), and that was me done for the day. I like mixing textures as well as patterns in my outfits – the pink backpack is (faux) suede so that added one more texture to the mix, plus you’ve got this year’s most popular jewellery trend: the statement earring. Not only that, but tassel earrings from Mango… I may be a bit late to the tassel earrings party but I do love them.

(Mango have the BEST statement earrings in my opinion.)

I bought three pairs of huge earrings from them the other month, and I love them all. I’m glad that I’m growing out the bob because it’s getting long enough to put my hair up again, and who wants to hide fabulous earrings with a bob you can’t put up…?

Hope you have a fabulous week – think of me on Thursday when the house move takes place… more old clothes that can get dirty and heavy lifting will be required. I think I’ll be glad to get myself dressed up a little at the weekend…!

Do add your outfits to this week’s link up – and if you’ve added a link to here or my button to your post you may be featured next week!

Thank you for joining the #iwillwearwhatilike link up! This started as a campaign on Instagram in August 2015 where women over 30 wore everything on a journalist’s list of “inappropriate” items for 30+ women (including leopard print, short dresses and oversized sunglasses. Yes, really). It was so popular that I decided to carry it on weekly where women of all ages link up their fabulous style, never mind what anyone tells them not to wear!

The link up goes live every Monday at 3pm UK time and will stay open for a week. Whilst the original article was of course aimed at the 30+, you can be ANY age to link up. The only criteria is that you’re wearing whatever you damn well like!
